Why is Nasus so short?

Here in the new Ryze cinematic, we see a brief clip of him with Nasus against some... giant stone thing. And based on this shot Nasus seems to be... maybe slightly taller than Ryze? The perspective makes it a little difficult to tell exactly the difference, but it doesn't exactly seem to square with what we've heard of the Ascended from previous lore.

The Icathia story describes the Shuriman "God-Warriors" as they advance with their army:

"I saw nine of them, towering over the men they led. Their features and bodies were an awful blend of human and animal, and things that had never walked this world, and never should. Armored in bronze and jade, they were titans, inhuman monsters that defied belief." "Each was armed with a weapon larger than any man could lift, unstoppable and invincible. They waded through our ranks with sweeping blows that slew a dozen men with every swing."

And in Twilight of the Gods we hear about "Scores of mortal bodies tumbled into the arena, only to be crushed underfoot by the struggling god-warriors."

Doesn't exactly seem to match up with Nasus being just slightly taller than Ryze, given that Ryze isn't exactly a titan himself.

Is Nasus just really really short for an Ascended, or is this some kind of mistake in the cutscene? I'm inclined to think the latter, seeing as Nasus's own lore describes him as "a towering, jackal-headed being".

His ult was on cooldown.

Nasus is one of the few Ascended wise enough to eschew blatant shows of power in favor of restraint. Present Runeterra is in a fairly stable condition; the Darkin are contained, the Void isn't making any considerable progress in its invasion of reality, the Watchers are still in jail, and Shurima has only just been restored. There's no need for him to express the full extant of his power, and doing so would probably draw more attention than is worth addressing.

Is he really supposed to be that large? I thought that all Ascended and Darkin had the ability to increase in size, but aren't usually that big. Xerath and Azir seem to have human proportions, for instance.

Nasus let the fury of the sands fill him, his limbs surging with power and his body swelling as the desert’s wrath manifested within his dark flesh. His form loomed and grew, towering and monstrous like the first Ascended were said to be. - Bloodline Chapter VII

Nasus is short for a tipical Ascended. Why, its never really explained. Maybe the sun that powers the ritual is fading in power. Maybe its because he shared his Ascencion with Renekton, its currently a Plothole.

That being said, i did imagine he is suppose to be slightly large. In Ouroboros the way he rips apart the men who attack him sudjest that even in his base form, he should be larger than... well whatever height he is in the Cinematic.

Hey! He might be short but is a beautiful Ascended like everyone else!

SEKAI7/26/2018, 6:25:14 PM3 votes

Nasus was in casual mode.

When serious, he turns into a towering giant measuring like 200 meters tall or something, much in the vein of his ulti.

He didnt ulti yet.

YuGiHo7/26/2018, 7:41:19 PM2 votes

So he would still be able to breed with the inhabitants of runeterra without killing them.

Consistency of champion size is one of the art team's big weaknesses. In some promo materials, characters are the size of regular people. In others, they're the size of mountains. Riot apparently doesn't care too much about coherence in the lore, and why would they need to, given that lore fans will always make excuses for inconsistencies ("he can change his size at will", "he wasn't fully juiced up", etc -- see the other comments for more).

he just entered the lane. let him stack for a bit.

Well, I took it that Ryze is a bit taller.. like for sure ~185cm/6ft.. maybe even bit taller And taking that, Nasus would probably be around ~250cm/8ft

But then again.. Trundle seems to be twice of that. Like.. Ryze barely reaches the height of his knees lol

Well Nasus can grow huge with his ult,so it is possible that his regular state is kind of a surpressed one, smaller than most ascended to avoid unnecessary attention(he was able to disguise himself as a regular traveler in one story,so he is definitely no giant in the lore, even if he is taller than most humans)

He wasnt going full power represented by his ulti^^

The Ascended have been without the empowerment of the Sun Disk for a long time.
