Darkin aren't a Force of Nature anymore.

They're a people, although only a few left. They need actual personalities that flow and change depending on the situation. New Aatrox, has actually one of the best variation of emotions I've seen yet in a champion, something I haven't seen since Dawngate I miss you Mina. His solemness when his quote towards Voidsent plays, his anger that arrises when confronting his most insulting defeat yet: A little girl.

He's a Warrior, who lives to fight and kill. That alone dictates a personality that is much more aggressive. Old Aatrox's VO worked when he was a Force of Nature, 'a living embodiment of war itself', but Aatrox isn't that anymore. He has ups and downs, a personality. If you're going to hate the new VO, don't hate the voice lines themselves. Hate the fact that Darkin are an actual race now, and have had changes made to emphasize that.

#Completely fucking agreed.

If you were a Warrior DARKIN trapped for thousands of years and finally get the fruition of freedom, YOU WILL BE ANGRY AND FUCKING THRIVE to take your anger out on everyone in your sight.

He reminds me of Atrocitus, and I fucking love how he is right now.

The different emotions in new Aatrox' VO:

  • Joy
  • Anger
  • Amusement
  • Rage
  • Bitterness
  • Annoyment
  • Excitement
  • Doubt
  • Loathing

All with either sarcasm, laughter, scream or determination.

"new Aatrox just jokes and screams lul"

I've actually gleamed more from his emotes in terms of story, character and emotion than I ever really did with any previous Darkin. Varus is always gloomy, Rhaast is always MURDER MURDER YEYEYEYEYE or the snark master. The only thing I don't get is everyone saying new Aatrox is cringy and how it's a radical change. Like...guys. Aatrox was a demon swordsman from a race called the darkin. He was never that serious of a character, speaking as an aatrox player.

I feel like calling him a "generic meathead" is just an excuse to dislike intensity and new things. His lines get a lot better in that he's showing contempt rather than brute rage, and his brute rage is actually pretty amazing. Just LOOK at his lines for Zoe, I hate her only slightly more than Aatrox.

To me, he seems like he's angry at everything and a bit angrier towards a few particular things.

He doesn't show any other emotion. Or if he does, he shows it only through screaming and insults.

Never thought of this. Well said

Aatrox had an actual personality. Just because it wasn't as belligerent or loud as his new one doesn't mean it wasn't there. Regardless of how well-done his new personality is (which is not at all, in my opinion), he is a complete transformation that attempts to preserve nothing of the original. The guy can't spit out a single line without shouting like he's frothing at the mouth or saying something that tries to be humorous. That is just not old Aatrox. I don't understand the "they're a race now" argument people are using. Individuals of the same race can be as varied and different as we can possibly conceive. Rhaast and Aatrox have no reason or obligation to be remotely similar in any way. I do hate the VO itself, because the Darkin being a race has nothing to do with the lines.

Why are people saying "You'd be mad too if you were trapped away for 1000 years"? No, I wouldn't. I'd be dead. Even if I was immune to aging, didn't need to eat/sleep/breathe/drink or anything else, I would still be dead from such an extreme level of psychological damage. I am a human being, and human beings will literally die if they are locked away in solitary confinement for too long. We are far too social creatures for that and quite literally require some form of social interaction in order to survive. Just locking someone away for a single week often has extreme, permanent and irreversible side effects that cause them to become dangerously insane. Do this for much longer and they will simply stop living. The brain can't handle that level of damage.

You guys are trying to use "The Darkin are a race now" as a reason why it would be logical to treat them the same way humans would behave, but in the same argument you are also completely separating them from any kind of comparison to humans by assuming, wildly incorrectly, that someone would simply "be angry" after a thousand years of true solitude. No, you would "be angry" if you were sent to the corner for fifteen minutes. As the punishment grows, very different emotional responses begin to occur. I know the follow-up argument is gonna be, "Yeah well he's not a human he's a Darkin so he can just be angry about it" but then that brings me back to my original point of "So in other words you're saying he shouldn't have a human response to his circumstances and you just personally want it to be anger for no reason other than that's just what you want."

Anyway, the real issue is that people like me who love the current Aatrox will no longer have what we loved, and it will be gone forever with no trace of what it once was. I liked that old Aatrox couldn't be compared to humans. I liked that his motives and behavior were singularly focused on the one thing that he literally embodied. It made him seem less like "some guy" and more like a mysterious entity that I know next to nothing about, other than that he clearly does seem to be a perfect embodiment of one specific thing, seemingly without being clouded out by other irrelevant things. Before, I could say "Wow, a physical manifestation of a specific concept? How interesting!" but now he's just "another dude" and much less unique for it.

I'm fine with you guys being able to enjoy this new character and I genuinely do hope that you get a lot of fun and happiness out of him. I just think he should be a new character altogether, that way your happiness isn't coming at the cost of mine. I don't like Ezreal, but I wouldn't steal him from you guys just for that. I just accept that I don't like him and respect that he makes others happy. Why isn't this considered the proper way to handle disagreement? Why is creating pain for others our preferred method?

Yeah but his new kit isn't representative of anything the old Aatrox brought to the table, and his new model is straight up half-finished garbage.

Before I wanted Aatrox to be the cool cal darkin that reigns in and counteracts varus’s hatred for humans and Rhaast’s desire to simply destroy everything in his wake. Now it seems Aatrox is a more passionate warrior who is implied to not have been evil in the past. Now I want a color story of all the darkin meeting with one another and conversing with eachother.

I agree with your points but I hate you so much for mentioning Dawngate. It's not like Renzo remains one of my favorite supports in any MOBA. Especially given his taunt was "RENZO'S NIPPLES CAN CUT GLASS! BEWARE, RENZO'S CHEST COMES FOR YOU!"
