From Poppy's new lore

While yordles used their innate magic to fashion extraordinary things, these humans achieved equally astounding feats through coordination and discipline. They acted in concert like the cogs of a gear, becoming something much larger and stronger than any single person could ever be. To Poppy, that was more marvelous than all the magic in the world.

Yordles have inborn magic, presumably different than arcane "book magic". This is interesting. Seeing Heimerdinger, Ziggs, and Rumble...I kind of get a weird Warhammer 40,000 Orkish vibe. In the sense that Orks are mildly psychic and Orkish war gear is roughshod and slapped together from scrap in a Mad Max like fashion, and only functions in Orkish hands. Beyond that, it functions and works however Orks believe it should "DA RED WUNZ GO FASTA EY!". And thus a red paint job is in fact a serious vehicle upgrade.

"Whaddya mean it doesn't look SAFE?" -Ziggs

The man’s name was Orlon, and his presence seemed to stir the souls of everyone there. If someone became discouraged, he was there to remind them of why they pressed on. If someone collapsed from exhaustion, he inspired them to get up. It reminded Poppy of certain yordle charms, though again, without magic.

This section calls to mind lines to Yordles in Illaoi's voice over.

  • "Why would I need a spirit's help? I am guided by Nagakabouros."
  • "Little one, I don't need empathy. Seek those who do."
  • "Go back to where men are weak, and need your inspiration."

So what does this tell us?

Yordles have some innate inspiring abilities. Almosts makes me wish there was a Yordle Bard character. They may be somewhat fey like, and may possibly count as spirits. Also from Poppy's new lore, we learn that Poppy was around when Demacia was a "fledgling nation" -so Yordles can live to be very old, or might even be ageless.

deep inside, Poppy asked a different question. What would she do once she was rid of the weapon? Would she find an entirely new purpose? A yordle without one was a pathetic sight indeed. She stopped her mind from wandering and brought it back to the task at hand.

This is interesting. Yordles need "purpose"? Her lore states them as usually having a "chaotic whimsy", but does that fit with having a "purpose" driven life?

The bit about Poppy revealing herself made me think that perhaps Yordles have something of a 'somebody else's problem field'. That unless they wish to reveal themselves, they simply aren't noticed by mortals. Once a Yordle has revealed themselves, things may change, as a child was able to spot Poppy despite her hanging back. Or maybe the child's innocence allowed her to see through the glamour?

Further makes me wonder if Teemo's stealth ability is a refined version of this glamour.

I don't think they're ageless really. It's possible they just have incredibly long lifespans.

Personally, from what I've gathered, I think that yordles are locked by social bounds, because it has been stated that too much isolation can cause them to go mad, so they have to be social and kind to survive. The way Demacia works attracted Poppy's attention in these examples.

And because Veigar was trapped by Mordekaiser (New lore, but can also apply to old lore of Noxian imprisionment), he was driven to madness due to lack of social interaction or negative interaction.

Teemo and Tristana are good friends and although Teemo has her to keep his sanity in check, the fact he might have few issues when alone in the battlefield might confirm this.

Rumble is a bit of a grumpy because unless it's Tristana, he'd rather be alone, another check to the theory.

Even yordles like Lulu and Kled are somewhat insane because their only company is Pix and Skaarl, two creatures who can't even speak english. (Although Kled could have the mushroom juice as a factor for insanity.)

This is why I feel like yordles can be a really good race to support, because they fight for what's right and best, and they don't do it out of bias, they do it because they try and fight for someone or something they care about. A woman in their lives, a city to protect, a friend, a promise, etc.

And extra points if they do it for the world in general, even if it means defending themselves against the humans. As long as they're not forced to be left alone in any way.
