It does come off as weird to me that I feel like we don't know about Syndra that much, to be honest. Though my best guess is that she will be a part of the "Ionian Villains" lineup that Irelia has a taunt for.
To be honest I feel the same way about Sona, too. Excluded from the Demacia update, and Irelia comments on Bard's music but says nothing about Sona's. Feelsbadman
Syndra's lore is such a hurdle in getting her involved in content.
The entire set-up is that she shoots her flying castle into the sky and wants to be left alone. There's no reason for any character to interact with her, and she doesn't want to interact with them. She's deeply mistrustful enough not to socialize, but not villainous enough to seem like the type to launch an attack on a village or something.
Honestly, I think Riot has entirely written themselves into a corner with her. It's going to take some serious work to reintegrate her into the world.

I'm pretty sur ethat she'd be included in the "ionian villains"-category.
Anyway she seems to be mostly focused on the noxian invasion and ionians in general. And Syndra simply didn't have anything to do witht he noxus-invasion.
Im pretty sure that she did not participated in the Ionia/Noxus War...
