Why didn't Xerath lift Nasus in earlier moments of the fight?

Why did he spend that much effort If he could easily defeat him? Why didn't he lift and crushed his bones? Why didn't he lift and made his arcane barrages easy to aim? WHY DID HE EVEN LET HIM TO GET CLOSER? Xerath can be arrogant but he would like to crush his oppenent in the most brutal way, not to play with them except they being so insignificant to take care of.

He could combine his magical spells to destroy him like an insect If you think about it.

I think you're seeing the inherent weakness of a non-thoroughly plotted magic system. The more power that Xerath gets portrayed to have, the more the writers leave themselves open to people looking back and going "Hey, wait a minute, if he can do X, why didn't he do it here where it would have totally solved all his problems?"

The answer to those questions are almost always a variation of either "He didn't think about it" or "His arrogance got in the way of him making the obvious move." Which, basically, both make the character look like a complete idiot, whether or not the character had been portrayed that way leading up to the event. The honest answer is usually, the writer didn't think about it, or made up this cool move later without really thinking about how that magic would shape the story and world.

Which, since I usually over-analyze everything to oblivion and back, is why I personally prefer toned down subtle magic or very rigorously plotted magic. Both of which can fall into the same narrative trap, but are less likely to do so. The only real satisfactory way to handle high powered non-thoroughly plotted magic is to just ignore the problems when they come up. Which I personally find very hard to do, but maybe you can.

Xerath never wanted to actually kill Nasus. He wants the satisfaction of making Renekton do it.

Cause Nasus saved his Int Check.

Xerath has faith in his capabilities. If he wanted Renekton to kill Nasus, then all Xerath has to do is enough damage to keep the dog down for the battle they're in.

Xerath, in case you couldn't tell, is a talker. The entire time, he was having a conversation with Susan, even in the midst of battle. He wanted to weaken Nasus's resolve, his determination. He wanted Nasus to feel as week and as helpless as possible. Crushing him immediately would have just made things boring.

He likely wanted to test his powers against Nasus, its not like he can test them on someone powerful all the time.

The same reason Stormtroopers can't hit for shit (leaving aside the fact that they're usually throwing the fight on purpose for various reasons)

It makes for a better story

i think that nasus (without renekton) could beat xerath in maybe 1 of 2 ways. 1 he keeps eating those stacksssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss if they are lore wise with they probaly are. because in his spash art he is using his spirit fire ability and what is maybe his siphoning strike ability so he could maybe stacks up a bit :D and way number 2 is he is smart so he finds a way to beat him :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD (disclaimer dont try and find out a way xerath beats nasus because i am nasus main and i will find a way to beat xerath)
