Trick or Treat, piltover's finest.
One would think that, in a time of peace, when people on the streets never have to worry about rockets falling from the sky, most people would choose to enjoy their day. Vi, on the other hand, found herself more bored than she had been in years.
>Before Jinx started causing havoc, mondays had always been slow for Piltover’s finest. Caitlyn says she’s relieved to have the “jibbering lunatic” behind bars, but Vi knows that Cait enjoyed chasing down Jinx just as much as she did. Now that she’s gone, however, the city is extremely calm. The only crime the PPD hear about nowadays are ones happening in other states and none of Piltover’s business. Other than training, Vi never wears her gauntlets anymore.
>Caitlyn spends her time up in her study, doing paperwork or something. Vi doesn’t really care about the written stuff. Her job is to be the security of the PPD. Not part of the security, THE security. Not that she’s had any trouble to deal with. She likes to think it’s because people don’t want to mess with her, but it’s probably because they just don’t care.
>In the lobby of the Police Station, Vi sits down behind the counter with her feet propped up on the table, reading magazines she “confiscated” from a couple of teenage boys. To her right is Koffman. Vi doesn’t know exactly what his title is, but he talks to people that come in and reads important stuff. She also knows that Vi makes Koffman uneasy, which amuses her. The room was empty and quiet, and very obnoxiously boring.
>At the back of Vi’s head, she still is awed that only twenty feet below them is the girl who brought Piltover such a headache for months, now rendered harmless with her weapons in storage. She smirked, then sighed. What she would give to have something exciting to do.
>*Tap tap tap*
>Vi looked over to Koffman, who was looking at the door to the other side of the room. Nobody ever needed to knock to come in. It was a public building after all. He kept staring, then looked over to Vi.
>Curious, Vi put down her magazine and stood from the chair to look over the chest-high wall that separated her from the lobby. She saw a hooded figure standing there. Everything was covered, so she couldn’t tell if the person was armed. The figure did not move.
>Vi looked back at Koffman, who shrugged.
>*Tap tap tap*
>Vi quickly looked back over to the door, and swore she saw a silver streak move behind the figure. His arms didn’t seem to move from within his cloak.
>“Um. . . You can come in, man. It’s a public place.” Vi moved her hand to her watch on her right hand. The man did not move.
>After a few moments, Vi shrugged and angrily sat back down in her chair, folding her arms. “What the hell is this guy’s deal?”
>After Koffman looked one last time, he sighed and went back to his work.
>About a minute later, Koffman seemed startled as he looked back up and gasped.
>A flurry of silver streaks bolted into Koffman as blood splattered against the wall. Within a second, the blades flew out of his dead body and back towards the door.
>Caitlyn’s work was interrupted by a booming rumble coming from beneath her. She quickly stood up and kept balance.
“Vi?” Caitlyn nervously shouted when the noise stopped. “Is someone here?” Caitlyn staggered as the floor shook. She could hear the building break open, along with a very recognizable hiss of steam.
The sheriff sighed. “You’d better be in serious trouble down there.” Caitlyn gritted her teeth as she bolted to her bookshelf wall. She used the key in her pocket to open a secret compartment in the wall. When it opened, a secret shelf came up with a long rifle and ammunition hanging on it. She grabbed it and turned it on.
Satisfied that the weapon was calibrated, she hurried over to the balcony of her room.
She silently applauded Vi for knowing to bring the threat outside, though when Caitlyn saw the rubble and glass of the building on the ground, she held that thought.
The foe Vi was furiously swinging at was a human shaped android made of black and silver metal. Rather than arms, the robot had two discs hovering beside the torso with polished silver knives floating around them.
Caitlyn set up her weapon and kneeled down while observing the android’s movements.
‘Keep him distracted, Vi.’ Caitlyn thought to herself. ‘All I need is a clear shot.’
>Where the hell was Cait? Vi kept throwing punch after punch, managing to land a few on the foe, but by now Vi had a lot of stinging cuts on her body. The stupid robot was toying with her.
>Vi threw out a punch, turning on the thrusters on her gauntlet. She aimed straight for the android’s face.
>Almost instantly however, a cluster of knives shoved themselves into Vi’s gauntlets, magnetically halting their movements. Sparks shot out of the glove as she felt it go limp, falling to the ground.
>“What the hell, asshole!” Vi looked up from her faulty glove and saw the robot running away. “Get back here, you prick!” The enforcer began to charge up her vault breaker jets on her back. When she let loose, the force of the blow knocked the android to the ground. Its knives fell down as well with a clang. She grabbed it by the face and threw it in the opposite direction. Sparks flew as it skidded against the pavement.
>Vi noticed a red flash coming from the balcony of the PPD. A recognizable barrel pointed from under the railing. Vi smirked. “See ya nerd!” She waved with her good gauntlet.
>A muzzle flash bursted form out of the gun as Caitlyn’s “Ace in the hole” fired at the droid. The fight was over, Vi knew it.
>*CLANG* a flash of sparks erupted in front of the droid, as a red hot knife revealed itself.
>“Oh no freakin way!”
>A blade then threw itself up to the balcony. Vi couldn’t see if it hit it’s target.
>“Cait!” Vi began to run towards the building, but she heard the sound of rotating metal. She looked over to see the discs rotating very quickly to the sides of the droid, with the blades spinning along with them at very high speeds.
>“Running Kill.Exe.” The droid said in a metallic voice.
>“Oh shit!” Vi dodged over to a nearby car and ripped the door off of it, using it as a shield. The makeshift shield shook and vibrated as the knives embedded themselves into it, one of them making it through and sticking itself in Vi’s leg, causing her to wince in pain. When the shaking stopped, Vi looked through the now destroyed window of it and saw the discs facing forward, as the knives began to pull out of the car.
>As if by instinct, Vi had a plan. She activated the overdrive on her remaining glove and folded the car door in half, trapping the knives inside it. Vi held on tight as the car door threw itself in the direction of the android, then kicked off of it to slam it into the droid, and then into the side of another building. Vi then ripped the car door from the rubble and slammed it into the torso of the robot repeatedly until it stopped moving.
>Vi dropped the mass of metal and broken glass to the ground and staggered before sitting on the pavement to inspect her leg.
>“Gah. . . Piece of crap.” Vi removed the broken gauntlet from her arm and slipped out the knife, wincing as she did. Luckily, it didn’t seem to hit anything important. She placed her hand on her forehead. Then gasped.
>“Cait. . .” Vi quickly turned around to run to the police station, but stopped when she saw Caitlyn come out from the ruined front door.
>“You know, we’re going to need to pay for this.” The sheriff said as she brushed rubble off of her skirt. “Unfortunate, what happened to Koffman.”
>“What the hell is this thing?” Vi motioned to the broken robot, noticing the blood on her hand.
>“It injured you?” Caitlyn hurried over to Vi’s side to see it.”
>“I’ve probably had worse.” She tried to put weight on her leg, wincing as the pain almost caused her to fall. Vi grunted with teeth gritted. “Yep. I’ve definitely had worse. Those blades are sharp as hell.” She looked down to Caitlyn as she lead Vi to the wall to sit down. “Nice dodge.”
>“Whatever it was, It’s aim could use some work. But it blocked my best shot. . . that takes serious coding.”
>“One of Viktors’? Haven’t heard much from that guy in a while.”
>“I’m not sure. It doesn’t look like something Viktor makes.”
>“Think Jayce would know?”
>“I think it’s worth a shot, assuming you kept it in. . . relative condition.” Caitlyn put pressure on Vi’s leg, causing a shot of pain to run up her leg, making vi yell.
>“Damnit!”
>“That leg needs to be looked at.” Caitlyn stood and pulled up Vi, slouching her over Cait’s shoulder.
>“Teamwork makes the dream work cupcake.” Vi laughed, sounding very fatigued.
>“Warning. Warning.” The metallic voice began to speak. Vi and Caitlyn looked around and saw a red light blinking from it’s eyes.
>“Warning. Assassination.exe mission failure. Status. . . unable to complete mission. Secondary mission. . . distraction.exe mission success. Criminal has escaped. Status, immobile. Initiating teleportation subroutine.” The broken robot began to fizzle red, and then vanished.
>Caitlyn and Vi exchanged glances. . .
>“Criminal has escaped?”
>“Distraction?”
>…
>“Shit shit shit shit shit!!” Vi began to run at full speed, pain shooting up her leg with each step. She ran down the stairs of the PPD until she reached the basement holding area.
>At the far end of the room was a tunnel with a pile of rubble. . . the cells that once held some of Piltover’s most dangerous criminals were pulled wide open. . . Including the one that once held Vi’s most hated rival. . . Jinx.
>Vi collapsed to the ground, her hands were balled up into fists.
>“Please. . . Not again. . .”
I hope you enjoyed!
