story of collecting the world runes to hide them has huge potential for more interesting characters who have happened upon or deliberately searched for runes. very surprised we haven't seen a new champion with one in their possession to show us the potential power these runes have and the stories that could be told with them, how their upbringing in their nation influences how they use it, etc
pls don't leave this plot point unexplored
There was a discussion some time back of having a Champion be an antagonist for Ryze - like, the someone he's actively competing with to collect the Runes. That's be a cool chance for a Cthulhu-cult-like Champion, perhaps gathering Runes for some being in the Void they worship but do not fully comprehend.

There are good theories about our existing champions that have World Runes: ZIlean and Galio as main rxample.
I did make a champion a while back but they were human.
A big question would be if they were some spirit, monster, or a human like Ryze. Ryze's lore describes them as "dark forces" but it doesn't clarify what these forces are.
Kassadin maybe? His passive is 'Void stone' and the Icathia/Void crest shows 3 runes, but Ryze only has 2
I feel like the world runes are ingots or manifestations of the fabric of Runeterra, and they are keys to alternate dimensions, holding immense power, power that Ryze knowly does not use, but being in his presence has altered his body, much like the infinity stones in the MCU, I can see a World Rune being destroyed and thus the void ripped through the fabric of reality
