[Discussion] Who do you think is going to be the new champion after the Akali Rework?

###We were teased towards a Female Darkin character as it was mentioned in one of Varus's Short Stories called 'Dark Kin'.

Some past catastrophe had toppled it, and beyond its sandstone remains lay a lightless chamber.

Varus entered, the glow from the smoldering light at his heart revealing nothing but bare stone, burned black and glossy with ancient fire. Varus sighed. “Where are you, sister?” he said.

###There is a possibly not sure how big or small, that the next champion could be that Female Darkin, and here's a couple of reasons why:

  • Riot said a while back that they wanted to update the Darkin lore as they updated the Void lore.

  • Riot also confirmed that there was a Voice Over update planned for Miss Forturne and Varus. This could suggest that if they do release the Female Darkin to which Varus calls her "sister", he might receive his new Voice Over lines upon her release or a patch later. Speaking of this VO update plans, Riot said that they would start working on that as soon as they got out their priorities, such as the reworks and any other balance related stuff. There might be even a chance that we won't see any Darkin Lore updates, or a VO Updates until they finish with the Nunu Rework, it's quite hard to guess at this current time.

###What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree with any of my speculations?

I'd like to see a Watcher, or maybe the Void's "Daddy" among the next few champion releases.

They iced the VOs because they had disagreements. Furthermore, there's a strong possibility that they're gearing Morgana to be the female Darkin. She triggers Darkin lines from Urgot and Swain, and Aatrox implies as much with his familiarity and disgust with her choices.

I’d like to see a champion that utilizes and weaponizes farts in its abilities. Like a league Wario. Maybe she eats minions, jungle monsters, and skill shots to power up a fart attack.

Maybe the more powerful the fart, perhaps it leaves a residual poison cloud or knock back? I’m very serious about a fart-based champion, it’s untapped potential. What if it combos with Brand?

Perhaps a marksmen/tank?

They won't release another Darkin any time soon. We had one released last year, a character got retconned into one and Aatrox is being reworked with new lore. They should be Darkin-ed out for a while. And the less Darkin they make Morgana the better (else all they are doing is retconning champs into Darkins instead of thinking of new stuff).

Next champ will be Female Yordle.

I assumed the Darkin lore update was going to happen along side new Aatrox's release as opposed to a new champ. Just because they were setting up for a potential female Darkin champ, that doesn't necessarily mean it will happen soon or even this year. It could just be something for the future. Yes, it's possible, but I have my doubts.

My Personal Preference would be a new artillery/poke mage something similar to Xerath or Velkoz, I also wouldn't mind seeing the champion from the shadow isles.

Something more likely however I would say is a new yordle, the last time we got any sort of major release for yordles was with the rework of Poppy, which, correct me if I'm wrong, but was about 2 and a half years ago.

Other honourable mentions would be:

  • Void support (Unlikely because the past two champions have been a void champion and a support)
  • Shadow isles marksman
  • Shuriman support

EDIT FOR CLARITY: I wasnt as specific with two of the honourable mentions as I should have been, so let me elaborate.

Yes, I understand that Kalista is a shadow isles marksmen, what I was thinking of was more of something along the lines of the revenants, more like on the side of Karthus, Hecarim and Morde, correct me if Im wrong, but I don't think Kalista is sided with them

For the Shuriman support, More of a sand mage similar to Azir but as a support, perhaps someone who served under him, resurrected through some means, Maybe by Xerath.

Pretty sure it is a noxian that will be the next champ as they mentioned during the Swain release that they are planning to revisit Noxus this year and considering that we might only see only one more new champion and there are no noxian characters among the VGU top tiers(unless you count Morgana as noxian,but I kinda doubt that will be really part of her) it is actually pretty likely that the next champ is a noxian.

I don't think that a darkin is that likely(though certainly not impossible),because the darkin lore update that they talked about during the void update likely referred to Aatroxs release and we rarely get VO updates even if related champs are released(the sole exception so far was Lux,who received a VO update with Galio,but that was thanks to her getting an ultimate skin before)

I would have preferred that Morgana wasn’t taken in the Darkin-direction. In fact, I was really hoping that Riot would create a new Champion entirely. That doesn’t seem to be where they’re heading, though.

I wasn’t phased by Varus becoming a Darkin; that had been theorised for a long time. Morgana, however, seems a bit like a cop-out. And I really would have loved the female Darkin to be something far more badass, which doesn’t really fit my perception of Morgana. Would’ve far preferred they made her a corrupted Aspect or some shit... though, who knows. Maybe that’s kinda what the Darkin are.

I can imagine it being the female Darkin as its odd they would center the short story around her unless they had some very developed ideas about her.
