Taric Rework Weapon Teaser

Taken from reddit place but brought here to have some lore discussion on it. TL;DR League event had picture stands where you could take pictures with champion weapons, chief among them being Leona's sword/shield, Diana's blade, Panth's spear/helmet and Taric's....uh....

Ok first and foremost I preferred the hammer because it fit his paladin-style theme. That said, I can't imagine paladin of earth is something they're going to stick with so it makes sense that they'd retire the hammer. Along with this as a gem-scrounger he's likely mining the gems from Targon himself with just his weird axe thing.

What I do find interesting is that it seems like a combination of axe-staff. The gem at the top makes me think of Viktor's staff with the hexcore while the bladed edges seem more for cutting through rock than people. This might mean they're doing something along the lines of giving Taric a shield-and-staff (With bladed edges) as opposed to a giant man-cleaver. I think that'd be cool because, you know, we have staff-users and magical people with mystic weapons but never something like a staff that doubles as a beat stick. You could even argue this is more cleric-like as clerics often are depicted using blunt staves and heavy, one-handed maces.

So what do ya'll think? Losing the hammer too much or could this be a cooler/more interesting direction?

There is no point in giving an Axe to a Paladin. I hope it's a fake.

Maybe he covers his weapon into gems so it looks like an hammer.

Hmm looking a bit more at the image it seems that this might be a "2D" version of the actual weapon. Where the whatcouldbemetal part connects to the hilt, the decoration shows a patter that should be not so flat as shown.

Well I can see an axe or at least a sharp weapon being more useful in carving out precious stones from within the earth than a hammer, but there's too little to go on with this image on its own. The true details will likely be unveiled next week at the earliest, so I'm keeping my expectations and assumptions in check until then.

I see you stay up late looking for Taric information too.

Well, honestly? This is very disappointing. This isn't Taric. By extension, that means that whatever champion they're revealing as Taric's "rework" won't be Taric either.

That sounds like a drastic judgement, but let me explain.

Taric's hammer and shield are straight up iconic. The closest thing we have to this is Poppy's hammer and buckler, but it's distinct enough to matter. Taric's hammer and shield are huge, bulky weapons as opposed to Poppy's ensemble. More importantly, Taric's weapons are more dazzling and glamorous, matching his personality.

If this new Taric has this drab colored axe, he will probably have a drab colored shield (IF he even still has a shield!) and armor. And by extension, this will match his personality as well.

Very disappointing, if I am correct with this prediction...

I'd prefer a sword over whatever that is.

From the ring design on the bottom, I'd wager that Taric is from Noxus and is on pilgrimage.

It really looks a bit odd(might explain why Tarics hammer was added to the red-shop),but it doesn't quite look like an axe to me.(the handle and so on looks really off for an axe),more like a mace or a staff.

On one end I can see them doing it, on the other that's very iffy. A hammer or mace suits a gem paladin, that weapon there looks like something Darius or Hecarim would use :O We'll have to wait and see how it's used...

Christ another axe, and they're giving it to Taric...

If this is true I'm done with lore.

They're probably just switching him from Earth Paladin to weird self-imposed exile Mountain Druid dude.

The Gem gives it a "magical staff" vibe that I really like.
