What Happends to Shyvana's Clothes During Transformations?

Epicurus·8/16/2017, 12:00:55 PM·23 votes·1,844 views

None of Shyvana's new lore mentions what she wears, or what happens to her clothing when she turns into her dragon form. As I see it, there are three possibilities for how the transformation works, but each has its own problems.

Option A - Animagus Style. Shyvana's armour magically disappears when she transforms into a dragon, and reappears when she returns to human form. This is what appears to happen in-game, though that doesn't necessarily mean it matches the lore. I don't like this option myself, because of the implications it has about Shyvana's magic. Namely, the ability to temporarily remove matter from existence is a pretty huge magical ability to only be use for such a trivial thing as clothes. Not even Xerath or Syndra have abilities like this; they just throw energy around and break things. Now Shyvana is obviously a magical being, but I think this takes her magic too far.

Option B - Werewolf Style. Like your typical movie werewolf, Shyvana's transformation does not incorporate whatever she is wearing, and her sudden increae in size destroys whatever she war wearing at the time. This would of course mean that when she transforms back to human form she would need a new set of clothes. The problem with this theory is that Shyvana wears metal armour. Transforming out of metal armour is bound to be painful and harmful,, but it would also mangle the armour beyond repair. If this option is true, then somewhere in Demacia there is a very confused blacksmith who spends every waking hour forging dozens of duplicates of the same set of armour. Shyv's armour is pretty fancy too, so the logistics of maintaining this procedure are absurd.

Option C - Mystique Style. This might sound far-fetched, but it is worth considering that what we call Shyvana's "armour" might actually be part of her body, and not be removable. If so, then her armour human scales would just transform with her between forms. This would explain the similar features between her human scales and her dragon form. As far as I can tell, Shyvana's new lore never actually states that she is wearing armour (old Q&A proably does, but that's not relevant anymore), so this theory is loosely possible.

Does anyone have any other theories? Thoughts? I know I am being picky, but my curiosity has been stoked.

Her armor is either magic(changes in size and shape to fit her different forms), or a part of her body that she can seemingly control. The former seems most likely since

  1. how does she go to the bathroom if it's a part of her body that covers "those" parts? and
  2. shes not a shapeshifter like mystique where she has full control over her body.

The reasons her armor is likely magic and forms to the wearer rather than taking it off or breaking the armor when she transforms is

  1. She is definitely wearing the same armor in her dragon form
  2. it's still on her when she transforms from dragon to human.
  3. https://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/4/49/Shyvana_Lore.png/revision/latest?cb=20170323200024 https://i.ytimg.com/vi/NLdmNNwL6cs/maxresdefault.jpg you can see in both of these official art pieces of Shyvana mid transformation, that her armor is changing shape as she does.

Who says she's wearing clothes?

I like option B the most and in lore it is implied that she avoids transforming when possible. So I doubt it is all too common that she even transforms. And if she knows she is going to transform ahead of time she can easily take the armor off first. Not a fan of option A or option C.

She is neither a changeling nor is she a magician. She is a beast an option B reflects that the most.

I would imagine she either removes her clothes/armor or just rips through it depending on the situation and outfit she is in.

Like if she's out with the girls in her dope new dress, she probably would try to avoid destroying the dress. But if she was just going to Walmart in her sweats and shirt with holes in it, she would just go straight dragon not caring about her clothes.

think of her as Beast Boy

A and C with a touch of B. Metals, hide, Bone, and other natural and/or hard substances are warped into her scales and hide. After leaving her Dragon transformation I think it's likely that it could effect what she's wearing. Things like adding pigments, or making the armor thicker/thinner. I suspect that things that aren't useful to her biology as a dragon may simply be shredded in the transformation though.

Shyvanna probably doesn't wear a lot of cloth or plant matter based clothing. Unless she doesn't think she will need to turn into a dragon, or doesn't value the clothing.

Option A - Animagus Style.

It's actually called 18- content style, where you don't want your characters run around naked half the time, because it's embarassing.

Calling all sexual deviants. Help theory craft and make instructional doujins to elucidate this insipid phenomenon.

If one pays attention to her character model in game, one would see the dragon still wearing her armor. So it's most likely the armor somehow changes size or something like that. If a Rioter could comment on this question someday it would certainly enlighten people to the "facts of life" in Runeterra.

Two answers:

One: since she was warped by magic as an egg, maybe when she transforms into a dragon that same magic warps her clothes to shape her appearance. It's the only way of how she has similar armor on in dragon form in almost every one of her skins.

Two: It's a video game and not everything can be explained in a fucking video game. How does Gnar get his loincloth back after coming back from mega Gnar in base skin? Who fucking knows!

I would love if Shyvanna pulled a 2B self destruct each time she ults.

You catch my drift? :)

It's likely option A considering that's pretty common for magical transformations in fiction. Animorphs straight-up had the kids materializing clothing whenever they turned back.
