Pyke's VO seems pretty chill for how the Trailer made him seem.

Is Riot afraid of making seriously dark characters now? Pyke tells some generic pirat-ey lines and doesn't even sound too serious. It's like he's just going at it easily cuz he knows he's got all the time in the world to cross names off his list.

Jhin and Kindred have some of the best thematic cohesion in the League universe due to how they stay true to their own disturbing lores through their VO, sound design and harrowing style. Pyke has everything right except his VO, in my opinion.

Pyke's VO predominately portrays his uncomfortable obsession with drowning the guilty, harpooning the guilty and purging names off his "ol'murder list". Then some waffling about how deep the ocean is and how far he sunk.

So I'm not sure why that wouldn't be exactly what you'd expect. Pyke has traces of charisma and he's not so serious he can't tell a joke. Although its arguable that's just the way VOs are written and not necessarily a concrete example of his in-universe personality.
