Should we ever expect another big cinematic battle like "A New Dawn" in the future?

It seems like all of Riot's recent cinematics have been 30-second stints for new Champions like Aurelion Sol, Vel'koz, etc, or cinematics devoted to Esports. But A New Dawn was simply awesome, and it'd be great to see another battle cinematic at some point.

After all, Riot's gonna have to step up its cinematic game to have a chance of competing with Blizzard's Overwatch cinematics. Seriously, "Alive" and "Recall" were like Pixar mini-films, and I loved them.

What up, Yousosmart.

I'm TreblMuffin, I'm the sound bro working with our cinematics teams.

I obviously wouldn't be able to speak to the overarching strategy of them, so the following is basically my take on the whole thing. You have to remember that cinematics are often only a piece of the story we tell when a champion is released, and that sometimes a piece is all we want you to have because that can actually show you who a champ is better. Follow me down this path...

So take a look at a champion like Jhin. He was really really hard to deal with. How do you show players how completely messed up that guy is? Well... that's the thing... to Jhin, the horrifying parts of life are beautiful. So we wanted to show that. We wanted to abstract death for players in the same way that he abstracts it for himself. We made something enigmatic, beautiful, but just a little bit eerie.

While A New Dawn is flipping awesome, I don't think it's tremendously compelling from a narrative point of view. It's just a really really cool fight.

Now personally, I would really like to see longer, more breathy narrative cinematics with all of that awesome depth of story and action I'm hungry for. Maybe someday, maybe not. But we're always going to work as hard as we can to make sure when something drops, it's a compelling piece of art. Let us know if we ever miss the mark for you, we're always hunting for these kinds of posts!

I prefer the cinematics that focus on individual champions than big battle mash up cinematics because one actually has story implications, while the other is just for funsies. Nothing wrong with fun cinematics, I just prefer the former in this case.

I feel like League doesn't know what it wants to be anymore in regards to cinematics.

The lore retcon destroyed the IOW and summoners with it making big battle cinematics like A New Dawn seem out of place lore-wise.

Now every new champion is getting a small art teaser with some lore attached (sometimes). While plenty of older champions no longer make sense or even League of Legends in general for that matter.

We have virtually no old lore and very small amounts of new lore. This leaves us in a grey area where nothing really seems to matter because it never fully connects the champions with the entire game or its purpose for taking place.

-Cheers loves.

I personally would like to see a mash up cinematic because there is nothing like seeing your favorite champion come to life.

More lore significant cinematics, less non-lore significant cinematics.

I think a big thing for me is I just want to see cinematics with multiple champs in it to see how they may interact with each other. That said I wouldnt mind if that interaction was a massive epic fight.

What I would love to see is a fight kind of like in new dawn, but it starts out as someone having crushes a tower, then have 3 people collapse on him. Afterwards you hear a loud scream, as A GIANT FRIKIN ZOMBIE charges at them. Then there would be Sion and some other tank smacking eachother, where the enemy add comes in to help and kill Sion, after which he revives and murders them both. Who wins or what the other 7 people are doing I don't really care about.

Tbh I don't want/care about single champion cinematics fleshing out characters. I wan't a Blur Studios quality animation of a big dumb teamfight. Judging by the red posts here, I seem to be in the minority though.

Yeah I'd take the full fight cinematics as well. Maybe if the champ teasers were longer to the point we actually did get some story or lore to them, but currently they've been 30 seconds that may have 1 line in it just to make people guess. That just doesn't satisfy like a 5 minute show of our champs dueling it out.

The problem is that League cinematics aren't like Pixar cartoons. They are extremely hard to create and deliver on Riot's standards.

The problem is we want really really badass fights AND great narrative stories, but only of our favorite champs. Each player's individual favorite champs, and animation takes time/money. They can't involve every champion, they just can't there are too many champs. As much as I would love to see a series about individual champions, I doubt Riot has any plans for something like that.
