People complain about Rek'Sai lacking a proper "voice" because every previously introduced Void champion can speak, even Kog'Maw, who is, for all intents and purposes, the equivalent of a toddler. Couple this with her being the first female member of the Void, the decision to have her be incapable of speech seems decidedly unfortunate. The Void is a very vaguely defined facet of League's lore, and any scrap information is extremely valuable. As such, Rek'Sai's lack of voice feels like a missed opportunity.

Comparing her to Rammus is a case of apples to oranges; Rammus is the only sapient armadillo in League, we have nothing to compare him to, while Rek'Sai has the likes of Cho'Gath, Vel'Koz, Kog'Maw, and Kha'Zix to contrast with. Discrepancies are far more noticeable in her circumstances.

I absolutely love that Rek'Sai only communicates with screeches, roars, and clicks. It really completes the beast experience. To add a voice to her is to devoid her of her bestial prowess.

Let's give the Xenomorph Queen from Aliens an English VO, too.

No? Why not?

There's your answer. There are some kinds of monster that sound wrong no matter what they're saying if we can understand it. It doesn't fit. It doesn't work.

And who says Rek'Sai is unintelligent? The inability to communicate in a way a human can understand does not in any way make something more or less intelligent, much in the same way that a human is not less intelligent than a dog for not being able to communicate as a dog would. For all we know, Rek'Sai could "possess an intellect far beyond human reckoning," much like a certain other scary creature with some admittedly less severe communication issues.

On that note, it would be pretty sweet if the inevitable Battlecast Rek'Sai took a couple of cues from Bladewolf.

I am ok with Rek'sais voicelesness,it is something completely different from everyone else and I think it adds to her character rather than decreasing her. You know talking always adds a level of malevolence on monsters like these, but the fact that this thing seems to act purely out of instinct and not malevolence makes it scary on a whole other level.

Overall I doubt that riot will do this with more champs, being a voiceless animal is simply rek'sais thing,I think future void champs(even female ones) will have voice-over.

It clashes with the other void champions.....and there's seven minutes of random noises. While unfitting compared to that, I think it fits her design well and I can't quite imagine a voice to go along with her monstrous appearance.

It's also odd that Rammus, Alistar, Wukong, and Rengar can all talk too.

She looks much more older than the other voidborn champions and she only seems to have a predatory instinct. I think the lack of voice over is.....fine.

Rammus Is acceptable because he was unique in the league to being not very communicative. In the lore he's a loner so it makes sense that he's not much of a speaker any ways.

Gnar is acceptable because it establishes his identity as a young, primitive yordle who hasn't matured to understand language. This is reflected in his unique champion-specific taunts where he will try to pronounce and communicate with other champions in a childish manner ("Demaglio!" vs "Demacia!")

The issue with Rek'Sai is she is technically from the void and it's been established with every other void creature, even young Kog'Maw, that void creatures can communicate and speak. (the exception to this rule being the voidlings that Malzahar summons)

Of course they probably won't give her a new voice because that would cost time and money and change the champion's identity that they are trying to establish which is a vicious monster who doesn't talk. Only kills and eats.

i just dont think it makes sense that all the other void champions can be self aware, even if their stupid. Hell, vel koz is smarter than most humans. It just dosent make sense.

I'd like to point out, they actually lost Rammus' English VO, and even then he had about 3 minutes of actual lines. Rek'Sai has 11 minutes of Whale-song.

It could be that Rek'Sai is only the first revealed of a new order of Void creature. While creatures like Vel, Cho, Kha, and Kog are sentient -similar to humans- Rek'Sai could be a different, far more bestial, form of creature.

Example: Humans are to Felines, as Vel/Cho/Kha/Kog are to Rek.

Then again, I may be over-analyzing this... Whatever the case, it is interesting. I like the fact that Rek is unique, and I think that she sounds fantastic, if not comprehensible.

Idk if i like it or not. I don't like it for what Foolish Lantern said, but i like it because it actually makes her the first true beast champion in LoL, AND because hearing a female voice from that beast would be awkward, i can't really imagine it.

The Soulforged11/28/2014, 9:45:58 PM1 votes

I'd like to see a VO for both of them :)

Keep in mind that Rammus' four lines of OK dialog don't compare to Rek'Sai's seven minutes of terrifying growls.

If Rammus' VO is OK, then Rek'Sai's VO should be no problem for players in any case.
