Big Shuriman Plot Continuity Problem

EDIT: RIOT ANSWERED THIS THREAD. THERE IS NO PROBLEM. ORIGINAL POST KEPT BELOW.

The release of Confessions of A Broken Blade and update of Irelia’s lore has created a large plot continuity problem for Shurima’s lore. I would like clarification from Riot about whether it exists and, if it does, what its implications are.

Specifically, Taliyah was sixteen when she left her tribe to learn about her powers and sixteen when she returned to Shurima after hearing that Azir had arisen. Her journey included being tricked onto a Noxian warship that sailed to Ionia during its invasion and thrown off when she refused to use her powers to bury sleeping villagers in their homes. This event ties that period to a particular year of her life.

Here’s the problem. Her return to Shurima during that same year ties the invasion period of Ionian history to the period of Shuriman history during which Azir arose again. Therefore, any significant passage of time in one period will have to be reflected in the other. By our understanding, the Ionian invasion happened seven years ago, implying that

The situation in Shurima has advanced seven years. Azir has defeated Xerath and Renekton and declared himself emperor. Or, Xerath and Renekton have defeated Azir, Nasus, and Taliyah and declare themselves rulers. Or maybe Taliyah has persuaded Nasus and Sivir to fight Azir, Xerath, and Renekton and establish Valoran’s first large human democracy. In other words, the story of Shurima has almost certainly ended off-screen.

Almost all Shuriman character lore is now seven years out of date. Taliyah, Nasus, Azir, Xerath, and Renekton, along with Sivir and Rammus, are all now seven years older. Who knows what happened to them during the conflict, and whether their stories continue after Taliyah finds her tribe or not, Nasus decides his place in Shurima, Azir triumphs or fails, and Xerath and Renekton triumph or fail? Taliyah and Sivir are not nearly immortal—the two will have significantly aged—and all the characters are now all figures of the past, whose future has already been decided.

Therefore, even poking Shuriman lore in the future could require an update dwarfing the last one it received. The conflict resolution, character growth, and model updates needed to progress almost half a dozen characters and their volatile setting more than half a decade would make Burning Tides look like a splash bio and some bug-fixes.

Can we please get official clarity about whether the above is true, and what that means if it is?

Some of you know I do maps. What you may not know is that I also do timelines. I'm just more wary of talking about it at the moment :(

Her journey included being tricked onto a Noxian warship that sailed to Ionia during its invasion and thrown off when she refused to use her powers to bury sleeping villagers in their homes.

I get why you're struggling to put these dots together, but there's something that might help - the end of the Noxian invasion of Ionia was not the end of Noxians in Ionia. Noxus may no longer be 'at war' but they had taken some small, coastal, areas of land, and they intend to keep them.

That means that there is still violence between Noxians and Ionians in Ionia - just nowhere near at the scale of what it was during the invasion, and it is not 'glorified' with the title of 'war'. A young ambitious general wanting to make his name might look at Taliyah as a tool who could punish the villages in so-called Noxian territory for not bending the knee or harboring Brotherhood members - or worse, a young general who thinks that expanding that territory (even when not officially at war) would be a fast track to glory and power.

As such, according to my timeline, ~~Taliyah left Ionia approx 3 years before 'today' ~~- and she had to travel by fishing boat from Ionia to the Freljord, and then make her way (avoiding too much Noxian interference) south to the coast of Shurima before we pick up with her in Bloodlines.

I am still wary of talking too much about this sort of stuff, because I'm pretty sure some timeline mistakes have been made in the past and I'm trying to identify them and work out how we can unravel those snarls. Kind of like tech-debt, but I guess it's temporal-debt. Fun!

#[EDIT] #Welp - that's why I'm wary of talking about this kind of thing! I've been informed that there are changes coming to the timeline as I know it (it's still pretty flexible in some places, and bedrock-like in others) and so I'm gonna have to retract the specific number I used in this post. #I'm so sorry everyone - I know you wanted some clarity on that, but the factoid about Noxus still holding some land is still correct as best I know!

I feel like you could have just asked for any official clarification on this supposed issue, rather than put yourself through the rigmarole of typing paragraphs of rash assumptions. Fine to gather awareness on something seemingly a problem, just if I was in your shoes I'd have asked the question that needs addressing and leave it with that. Save myself the heart-attack of thinking about what could be wrong.

So Taliyah is now legal?

Yes.
