TL;DR Cinematics is a doable prospect for League and it's lore. I'm pretty anxious about how it can be worthy of my attention though. Because what can a cinematic effectively establish that the colour story has already done?
The question I have about this, what kind of perspective could cinematics tell us about an individual champion that their lore (bio + colour story) doesn't already tell us? Because my concern would be that small cinematics will just rehash established facts into animated form. If so, players could or will just watch a minute long video rather than read the content with more depth behind it.
Which is fine for the layman who might want to become invested into their favorite character's lore, especially if they hadn't already. I understand cinematics would be the most beneficial to help Riot promote that these champions have an entire world of stories behind most of them. But for us who've invested the past 3-4 years and have a substantial or even moderate understand of the lore, what can we (or rather I) learn that's new and interesting? Because as much as I will still watch said cinematic, I won't really be overjoyed if it's just to repeat that "Warwick hunts the criminals of underbelly Zaun" so on and so forth.
But in this concern (of my own making), I also question what can the Narrative team tell me that's new about a character that I already read their lore on? Because I imagine, especially for newly updated champions and even newly released one's, that writers themselves might not have new information to share, or what should be shared prematurely.
On the other hand I know Riot tried but didnt follow through with small cinematics for individual champs. Can't recall why they didn't complete said project because the WIP videos had amazing potential. But I think one of the (perhaps smaller) issues of them was most were just fight porn that didn't really add much except show X character is a good fighter/killer.
