How does Irelia bend her elbows? They're covered in what looks like metal.

So... magical Ionian metal that can bend? Metallic cloth (though I can't imagine that would be so protective)? Something like foil (also not protective)?

Remember that Irelia was/is a dancer. Her whole fighting style comes from her dancing style.

You're not going to dance in armour.

It's metallic looking fabric at best, thin layers of armor at worse. Either fabric that is designed to look like sheets of metal to throw off attackers or very thin plates of armor that were made to slide around each other plate.
