Riot messed up frostbutt irelia and I feel sorry for everyone who bought the skin

It was genuinely cool. Great colors. Great theme. Great execution. Her blades look awesome. I love the floaty thing in it. I love the mix of dark purple and gold. The blue highlights give it pop. I love the metal accents. The hair ornaments are a nice little personal touch.

The original frostbutt skin was iconic.

Let me repeat that: the original frostbutt skin was iconic. There was no wisdom to messing with it.

  • First and foremost, you color-blind SOBs screwed up the color scheme. Pastel purple aren't even close in terms of connotation or appeal.
  • Her blades look like pointy blue shite. They have no pop at all.
  • What is with that anime hair style and where are her ornaments? She looks like she belongs on the cover of a bad Final Fantasy game.
  • Why does she have fur? She's supposed to be cold and metal.
  • WHY DOES SHE HAVE WINGS ON HER FEET? SHE'S NOT HERMES!

What I want to know is how did riot manage to eff up one of their best skins in the game so badly? I mean did you put an artist on this who hates both Irelia and her fans? Who approved of this farce anyways? Was that person drunk, high, and suffering from severe head trauma at the time?

I mean if I wanted lighter colors, I'd just play Lotus Irelia which looks better overall. This translation just terrible. It doesn't reflect the original at all.

You heard me. Frostbleh. This is one of those modern movie reboots that don't even come close to the original and people wonder why they bothered if they were aiming for average at best. This skin is completely bleh to the Nth degree.

I can't understate this next point enough. This dework of the frostbutt skin is a textbook example of why people shouldn't throw money at riot, particularly at champs on the rework list. They obviously don't care about the people who liked the original skin enough to honor the original's look even remotely. Somehow riot took one of their best and most iconic skins and turned it into a warning to players because riot obviously doesn't know and doesn't care. If frostbutt was one of the worst skins in the game, I could see why you'd want to rework it from the ground up. However, it wasn't. There's no logic or wisdom to this change.

Riot tried to fix something that wasn't broken and made it far worse. Frostbutt went from being in the metal pantheon to being a forgettable and generic k-pop song. What the crap man!

The sad part is we are probably stuck with this shit because it's too late for riot to do anything about it and it'd cost them too much to reiterate it at this point.

And riot wonders why people leave league. This is one of the many little reasons why. It's because you log in one day and you see that one of your favorite skins in the game got reworked, was made unrecognizable, and is now completely bland and average.

I have to totally agree with this. The cold Icy metallic feel is what made this skin. The dark colors skeme as the base with bright blue and gold is really what made it pop. It was one of the most beautiful skins to come out. Now it's some bland almost monochromatically dull excuse for a skin sadly.

Did the person who designed new skin even see how the old one looked like? Or did Riot just show them a picture of new Irelia and said "now make an icy skin for her"?

This isn't even a "dework", as you put it. It's complete deletion of a skin - nothing from the original concept remains. It's not Frostblade Irelia anymore, it's fucking Winter Wonder Irelia and certainly not what anyone who ever bought it paid for.

What's worse is that Riot addressed that they've listened to feedback and are going to make changes, but from the reddit post it really doesn't look like the original skin will be preserved or respected. It's just...mind-boggling how much of a disconnect there was with Riot and their fans on this one. It hurts even more that Riot said they too refer to the skin as Frostbutt and so there was some hope there that the skin was in safe hands. What a huge betrayal...

Wow... seeing a comparison you can really tell how badly they ruined this skin. I bought Frostblade Irelia early on into my league carrier because i thought it looked AMAZING ingame. Now it's just a crap winter wonder skin.

If we do get a fix, it's either going to be a long way off, or a new skin entirely. Somehow this has completely ruined the remake for me.

Atleast i have Nightblade Irelia i guess...

Good points in this post especially about how the original was iconic, about not trying to fix something that isn't broken, about why bother rebooting if you are not going to actually make it better, and how they should try to honor the users who bought the original, but also a little too toxic-aggressive-overdramatic with the name calling at the artists.

They wanted to make it more cohesive, but completely misread what users liked and erroneously doubled down on the frost aspect. It's an honest mistake: just wish they would own up to it and rework it instead of saying ah my bad, nah if we tried to fix it it would just be half-assed band-aid fix so we wont even try.

Why its the skin a faliure? Because the skin was joked to be about "frost butt irelia", and everyone was making jokes about her ass. So, riot only considered THAT the only important part of the skin!!!!!!!

So, obviously, her ass in the splash looks tonned and nice, but that's about it. They didn't focus on why people REALLY LIKED THE SKIN or WHY THEY BOUGHT IT.

Its like, every guy makes jokes about boobs, and focuses on boobs. But lets be real, most of us wouldn't give a shit if your female partner would have a flat chest or huge implants as long as her other, more important assets are there. Bigger boobs are just "a bonus".

Likewise, with Irelia and her ass. It was just a "bonus", I didn't even personally care about it.

I got the skin because I liked the blue, cold theme. Because it looked cool as an ingame model. Like a snow elf of sorts.

The new frost blade irelia makes her look more like just a chick visiting some sky resort. Its the same as snow Talyah. It has no cold or blue to it.

So, that's probably why riot fucked up. And also why the community screams so hard. Due to meme and jokes, the focus was on the entirely different aspect of why frosty irelia was popular an nice.

I personally even disliked her splash art, but liked the ingame model and its blueness. But that's just me. So, as much as I like to blame riot for everything (just like some people that like to blame russia for everything), this time, the issue was caused both by riot and the community itself.

well i already complained much about the skin but 3 things i really like about the new skin:

  • the blades
  • how she stands (looks awesome and sexy)
  • her hairstyle - looks ingame cooler than the old one but in the splash it looks ugly

The sad thing is, the skin itself isn't even inherently bad. It's just bad because of it's complete rework of an already good skin. Like if they had released this as an entirely new skin in the Winter World line, I could see it getting way better reception.

Random, but maybe the original rework of it was too close to Dawnbringer Riven in game. Their color schemes in game are very similar.

Maybe it was an internal decision for "clarity" purposes. Idk, I realize Irelia has her blades floating behind her to make her stand out, so I'm probably wrong.

I totally disagree with Riot's choice to throw out what made old Frostblade the skin it was, but you treat your opinion on how good the new skin is and the old skin was like it is objectively correct.

I think you are correct about Riot not valuing the thematic of the old skin. I do not think the new skin is objectively worse like you claim it to be.

I have to agree with this completely. I am not, and never was an Irelia main, but even I, can tell what a train wreck this skin is. It took everything appealing, sexy, and beautiful about the original skin, and took that all away. The color scheme clashes, the hair looks stupid, and the outfit sucks. Might as well rework the skin before release, because that skin is awful. Good job on the rest of the reworked skins though riot, they look good, but please rework the skin to at least have a tight jumpsuit, with the original Irelia hair colored blue.
