Which is More Satisfying: New Champions or Reworks?

Hey Guys!

I did a little write-up summarizing the last few new champions and VGUs. If you want to read it, check it out here: http://thegamehaus.com/2017/03/11/which-is-more-satisfying-new-champions-or-reworks/

But I am interested in everyone's opinion to the title question. Do you enjoy New Champs, or Reworked Champs more?

Now, I purposefully did not include roster updates (Marksmen, Assassins, Mages, etc.) because those changes are less substantial. They are generally lower degrees of change. If you have opinions, feel free to express them, though.

Comment below, and I have a Twitter poll going. You can follow the link at the bottom of the article or here: https://twitter.com/ThomasBaker_TGH/status/840392252853760002

If you don't have Twitter, or don't want to use it, I am adding the Boards poll below, too!

Personally I'd say there's more weight and investment to have in reworks from the get go because they've already established in League to begin with, where as for new champs it's a mixed bag since you don't know what you're getting. I mean last year Aurelion Sol, Kled and Ivern were my jam, Taliyah was ok, while Camille and Jhin I'd easily toss off a bridge. Meanwhile rework wise we had Shen, Taric, Ryze and Yorick, and they were all satisfying in their own ways.

So really there's no true definitive answer, but I feel broad scope wise folks are more drawn to reworks because when the initial intrigue of a new champ lifts upon their actual reveal, it immediately sets an audience and so some folks just drop out of the conversation, where as EVERYONE gets invested in reworked champs because they know them already.

New Champions, purely because we don't get floods of posts crying about how a VGU completely changed their Champion.

It depends. Some champions really need the rework more than the game needs a new champion, but new champions are great because they expand the roster.

It depends. Awhile ago I'd say new champs, easily. Only I don't think I've been interested in a new champion since, geez since Braum. I mean the last champion was a person with knife feet. How stupid is that? What possible benefit could that have?

But reworks are kind of a mixed bag some have been great. Others have completely disrupted what I initially liked about the champion their reworking into something that evokes the exact opposite reaction. Which doesn't so much make me excited for reworks rather than living in fear of them.

So ultimately the answer is whichever one Riot does that I end up liking.

Reworks, always Reworks.

It depends. A good rework can make a champion shine. But a mediocre one, unless it was really obvious that one was needed, is typically worse than a new champion. A solid, good VGU overhaul can make a previously low-pick champion jump up to mid-tier…simply because people actually pay attention to that champion, now. Hell, for all we know, AP Urgot could be the best jungler ever. But, since nobody plays Urgot (I've legitimately only seen him in two or three non-RGM matches), we'll never know.

But, at the same time, a new skin or champion can do a lot more. You typically don't see a bad skin make a champion's play rate drop - I still play Ahri just as much as I used to, even though I didn't like her arcade skin. But a bad rework?

…i really kinda lost track, there…Basically, updates on healthy champs>updates on old as hell champs>new skins>new champs>bad skins>bad champs>bad updates…

…It basically just depends. I'm about 50-50 on the issue.

Maybe reworks? At least they don't add to the champion poll, which is exceedingly big as it is. Too much is too much.

I am more a fan of reworks, mostly because its really noticeable how badly some champions have aged compared to others(be it model wise or in terms of gameplay) and the difference in quality gets only bigger and bigger with each passing year, while the list of champs that could need a rework increases more and more.

I think it really depends on the person and the new/reworked champion. I didn't really care for Taliyah, Kled or Ivern but I loved Camille. As for reworks, Ryze didn't interest me at all, Galio only a little, while Yorick and Warwick I like a lot. And I really look forward to Urgot's rework as I think he holds a lot of potential.
