Hello again! Are you willing to pay for it? If so, I know that Photoshop is seriously popular within the industry because it offers a lot of tools for the user to work with. Plus, working with one Adobe software will help you potentially start with others in the future, in case you'd want to extend your field of proficiency beyond concept art or so. Otherwise, I know that PaintSAI is used by many people as well.

If you're interested in environmental concept art, I know that, along with photoshop, artists use all sort of 3D softwares as well for that- From Sketchup to ZBrush.

-_-

Just remember that a software (at least at this point of your journey) shouldn't necessarily be your focus. Sure, it's nice, having more tools and options to work with, with advantages and all, but for the time being, even as you're considering softwares, grab a pencil or a pen and start practicing on the good ol' paper.

When you will get your software, while exploring all of the awesome stuff you could do with it, I also recommend to juggle between that (digital) and traditional, because knowing to work in both mediums is an important skill.

There are many programs both free and payed that you could use to make concept art.

to get the most out of the programs I am listing it would be good to use some kind of drawing tablet like a Wacom Intuos (but there are many good tablets that you can use).

below are just a few programs that I have played around with. some of them have free trials or limited versions you can download to try them our, and some of them are completely free/ open source:

  • Sketchbook Pro - Raster based has a decent free trial/free version but the full program has gone to a subscription based model. They also have apps for tablets and phones that you could use.

  • Mischief - Vector based drawing program with an unique infinite canvas, free/trial version limits you on layers brushes and a few other things.

  • Mypaint -Free/open source - Another decent art program.

  • Krita - Free /open source - Good program although I have not explored it a ton

  • Artrage - good digital painting software - has apps you can use on tablet or phone as well as desktop machines

lastly I wanted to say I agree with DwarvenGiant's advice, software is a great tool but it alone will not make you good :-) I have made that mistake. knowing both traditional and digital methods will serve you well. My advice is to explore, play, and study. if you have any questions please let us know.

I wish you the Best!

For free software I can only recommend Krita. It's very easy to use and has no limit to Layers (unlike the free Sketchbook version <.<). Otherwise, yeah. What the others already said.
