Vlad does use blood magic which was brought by the darkin into runterra, Id believe this to be a link to it.
Just realized that whole "Darkin introduced the world to Blood Magic" concept still exists, even though they aren't exactly demon aliens anymore (thank god). What if, these primal, flesh magics they used to change and upgrade their own bodies was blood magic, as it even notes that human lives were used in the process. A little obvious, but a detail I overlooked at first.

Sooo, why doesn't Varus look like that? I mean IK it would have created even more upheval, but i guess he's reall JUST that good and combinin bodies that it doesn't get messed up. Aatrox must be jealous

Varus looks pretty close to his original form as a human/ascended after taking the bodies of the 2 hunters...Yeah Aatrox is gonna be pretty jealous
