Is anyone else seeing Kala's potential as a champion?
Look at things from a Kala-focused narrative.
She is the leader of her tribe, and has roamed the desert of Shurima for her entire life. Though her tribe continues to defer to her, she knows that her time to be lowered to the sands is growing near.
Then she meets a purple wizard man with a weird scroll. In a show of compassion, she stays the hands of her subordinates, who had attempted to rob the strange, tattooed man.
Cue the events of Burning Lands.
As Kala's head turns back towards the vast sea of sand, she knows that no matter what, she will see that man again. With a new outlook on life, and perhaps a swagger in her step, she takes on the world.
**Anyway, lets talk gameplay and champion identity. **
Kala would make a great old lady, the one some of us may know perhaps personally. She's seen everything under the sun, and beaten it twice.
As she is growing in her years, she would operate as a frail, nimble, support who focuses on buffing her teammates through strategic gameplay, both on the macro micro level.
As a support, she rewards careful trading with a higher-than-average, auto-range. She has no mobility herself, however, but possesses a nifty passive.
**I'll spare the details for the comments as this is not the Concepts and Creations board. ** I covered a brief introduction. I'll address a few questions I predict will pop up.
Q: Would the story of her origin, or point of becoming a champion, occupy too much of a narratie space with the Burning Lands Comic?
A: I think that's understanding the concept of an origin too narrowly. Origins may not be single moments at the consequent of extraordinary providence. Kala's lived a long time, she's smart enough to know she does not, and can not, know everything. She always took the opportunity to learn from the situations Shurima would challenge her with. Her bio could cover a variety of moments that also provide insight into ancient Shuriman history.
Q: But what are her feats?
A; Again, this isn't a question I think is super necessary to answer, but she could have way more than what I'm about to list: She's lived to old age as a tribeswoman roaming Shurima, a continent not known for its gentle climate or forgiving wildlife. She has resisted the temptation of a World Rune, not something I think feasible by more than a quarter of the champions in the game, if that. Finally she was able to make effective work fighting off, perhaps killing, at least a dozen Shuriman cave people.
Q: But she doesn't seem to "plan" anything in her story?
A: Nonsense, she, like the vast majority of people, has no real idea of what to do with magic. Especially the ancient magic Ryze encounters along with whichever other champion is along for the field trip. I point to her complete willingness to learn and accept that she was going into uncharted territory. Unlike Khegan, who became Brand.
Sound
I imagine she could have an interesting interaction with just about every Shuriman champion at least. She's been around the block, and probably knows a lot of old legends. I imagine she could have a teaser-ful interaction with every other Shuriman champion, plus others (Ezreal).
Art
Like how that was out of order?
Let's talk about what Kala brings to the game. She's a dark skinned, elderly woman, who kicks great ass, and takes no shit. She would be an excellent step in the right direction for diverse representation in the game.
Hang on, I can hear it.
Many of you might now be asking why diversity should have any impact on a potential champion's viability.
It doesn't.
It has an impact on people who tend to not see a lot of familiar faces in media. That impact is, it (generally) makes us a little happier (hopefully).
That's it
