Karma is akin to the Dalai Lama, an enlightened leader of the Tibetan Buddhist faith. In Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama is the embodiment of Buddha, and on his death, his soul continues to be reborn in the next generation, where the new Dalai Lama is selected through tests with his belongings from the remaining monks. The new child is then the next Dalai Lama, and is trained to take up the mantle of Tibetan Buddhism leadership. Riot is drawing inspiration from real world mythology for this one.
I'd say 3 out of 140 is far from "obsession".
