Small headcanon on Syndra killing Konigen
Hi Boards! It's ya boy Falrein back to the charge with even more Syndra talk...
Today I wanna draw a parallel between this scene from X-Men The Last Stand, and this scene from Syndra's bio -
She felt more betrayed than she ever had before. Konigen tried to calm her, which only fueled her anger… and in that moment, his focus was lost.
The foundations of the temple shook. The morning light seemed to pale. Syndra rose from the floor, as her frustrations surged within her. She snatched dark orbs from the air, and cast them through her mentor’s body, forcing him to feel all of her bitter outrage as he died.
Okay so, both of these scenes share similarities and differences. I know Syndra is heavily influenced by Jean Grey/Phoenix/Dark Phoenix, and so that the link between these scenes is obvious, but that's not the point here (and I'll just talk about the movie here, even though I know it has been poorly received).
##What happened between Syndra and Konigen?
Now, as you can see, we have very little info on what happened between these two. I don't know either, but that's why I'm here... I just want to share my headcanon on what happened (yes, that's a useless thread, but I feed on making Syndra thread!)
We know Konigen tried to "calm her" but how? Well, here are my thoughts on the matter...
- Thanks to Scathelocke, we know the intention was to make Konigen a failed teacher, not a douchebag, so he probably didn't straight up threatened Syndra to take away her powers. However, I don't like to think he just told her "Calm down Syndra it's all good", because just like Konigen was made so that he wasn't a douche, I don't think they would make it so Syndra was the douche here.
- Like Professor X, I imagine Konigen wanted what was best for everyone, but instead of trying to help Syndra control her powers, he chose the easy way and dampened her powers without her consent.
- When she realized something was wrong, she confronted him, and he confessed everything because he was exhausted. He apparently had to lock himself away more and more, probably because Syndra's powers were too great for him to dampen as time went on, and so he confessed.
- When Syndra learned that, she let her anger get the best of her. And when Konigen could no longer dampen her powers, they apparently went rogue, as shown by the temple shaking and the sunlight fading, just like when Jean lets her emotions take control.
- From there on, I imagine Konigen tried to reason with her, but I also imagine he did so in the wrong way. Just like Charles Xavier, I think he tried to tell her that she was a danger for everyone and herself. That he was only trying to help her. That her powers were too great for her to control. Basically, he tried to justify himself. And the more he tried to act as if he could fix it, the more Syndra enraged.

- At this point, I don't think it makes Konigen a douchebag, but rather someone's who's failed, who knows it, but refuses to acknowledge it. So on the one hand you have Konigen, who probably tried to protect Syndra from herself (and presumably the world for Syndra), just like Professor X, but failed. And on the other hand, you have Syndra, who's been bullied her whole life, and whose teacher tried to take away the one thing that made her special (in her eyes at least).
- So, now that Syndra's powers are kind of messing with reality around her ("Such negativity had a strange, unpredictable effect on reality"), Konigen would probably try to reaffirm his grip on Syndra's powers, but they are too great for him.

- And finally he would realize it is too late. By trying to do good, he did wrong. And finally, she kills him. I like to think he realized he fucked up and his last words were something along the lines of Xavier's "Don't let it control you" (well, maybe not as kind and well-intentioned because it would be plagiarism but eh). I don't think he meant for all this to happened, and I like to think he wanted what's best for Syndra (because she's kind of a walking magical nuclear bomb, so her powers are kind of a double edged sword). I do think he wanted what was best for her, but intentions doesn't always equal actions, and he ended up doing more wrong than he intended.
So that concludes it. It's just pure, total headcanon from me. I do hope we'll learn more of what happened between those two, even though I doubt we will (or at least, not anytime soon). Syndra is a character with so much potential and I hope Riot will not leave her in the background because she lacks popularity!
