What a Karma Mini-VGU Would Look Like

It's amazing how an unbiased work ethic and talented designers can actually create something cohesive and modern. You know, this is something that should have happened with the original inception of the Karma VGU. Instead we got a concept that probably wasn't that bad but failed on so many levels because it was rushed and there was ZERO communication about what Riot Game Developers actually wanted to do with Karma. Here are the differences with the Karma in the photo above:

  1. The outfit looks really good, fully conceptualized, and cohesive. The in game model is this weird compromise of a dress and armor, but it is done so horribly that is looks terrible.
  2. No Mantle of Decorum. Wow, it leaves open the possibility of a spirit dragon and other things done for the model. There was no purpose for the Mantle in the first place and now we can appreciate Karma better. Maybe Developers can do much more interesting things with the floating dragons and stuff?
  3. The tassels/hand cuffs and things around her arms. Maybe Karma can connect one of those links cuffs/hand things to an ally that shows there is an actual connection. The fabric is sheer enough to show a connection but making the cuffs glow her Mantra color would make it look so pretty. She could have it connected and glowing to an ally and enemy when the ability is Mantra. Maybe the fabric could sparkle a little bit when it is in Mantra. Normal connection would just be not glowing cuff and fabric.

It really makes you wonder how the Karma VGU 6 years ago would have been perceived if Riot Game Developers actually gave us good work. Maybe the VGU received such horrible reception because it was rushed, there was zero to no communication about the direction of Karma, and it was bland as hell. Hm. How about Riot Game Developers do their jobs and give us the above model for Karma in game, work on all her skins, and actually communicate about what they want to do with this champion. Sit us down and tell all Karma mains that this is the direction Developers are taking her and complete half arsed work that was never completed. Maybe, just maybe! Players would be more on board with the original idea for Karma 6 years ago. I realized though this will never happen because it is Riot Games and the Developers don't care about anything or even communicating.

We see the possibilities and what they should be doing to rectifying mistakes to give us an actual champion with fully conceptualized work, but they don't give it to players in any ways. Just excuses for the past 6 years. The kit has been out way too long to ever bring back old abilities. Mistakes were made with zero communication. The least Riot Game Developers could do to solve the problem is actually tell all Karma players the direction they want to take Karma in, compete all of her art, and give us the full picture of what Riot Game Developers wanted to do 6 years ago.

it's literally her base model in higher res and with some cloth added to her wrists. We get it you don't like the karma VGU, do we really need to hear this every time anyone mentions karma, or any other VGU for that matter?

She actually does have mantle of decorum it's just hard to see. One of the tip is above Karma's head and the other above Irelia's. Still we don't know what it's purpose is after the lore retcon.

I am still happy they decided to include her in their promo, makes me hope that they might actually give her a proper mini-vgu. On the other hand for 5-6 years we didn't get anything (properly) done on her so it's almost impossible to believe that they will.

Yeah, she still has her mantle but I want to say it is noticeably smaller. I don't think the outfit is as different as you think; it's just more realistically rendered with some color shifts. The only differences I'm noticing immediately are that the color of the design on her sheer-tights leg is now purple instead of green, she now has bangles with sashes, her headdress is a bit different, and one of her arms is now covered. It also looks like her hair accessories have been color shifted, from red cords with gold beads to gold cords with turquoise beads.

I almost want to say they're actually going to give her those bangles in her update, if they can animate them, because those are a perfect way to make her W flashier.

I agree with you about the old abilities; it's been six years, people need to let it go. Let's now try to work with what we've got, because the likelihood of that over them actually re-implementing her old kit in any way is much higher.

I also agree that communication has always been shit, but to be fair, I can't think of one instance with any product I've ever used where I've been satisfied with a company's communication skills. As companies grow, their communication fails unfortunately.

The new look was further solidified in the new cinematic. The changes I spot are

  • the mantle’s wings are still there but MUCH smaller than on Karma now
  • those bits of cloth are still there around her wrists.
  • the design of the dress is fairly similar still
  • the crown on her head kinda goes to the back instead of around Karma’s head.

There are probably some minor details too but I’d need a less obscured look to be certain.
