So, in the latest released story, "Demacian Heart", appear some names and terms in italian: Corvo Pass (Raven Pass), Mamma (mom in italian) and the name Marsino (which has similarities with a lot of Latin origin names).
Does the connection between Italy and Demacia end with few names or is the nation inspired by southern european countries?
This is something I noticed too. Demacia's terrain and architecture also bears quite a bit of resemblance to medieval Italy, with its sloping hills, cypress trees and stone castles built into defensible mountaintops (High Silvermere for example seems to have taken inspiration from the Three Towers of San Marino).

A bit off-topic perhaps but given these similarities I wonder what a Demacian accent or language might sound like in the new lore, especially since much of its current cast was voiced before the retcon.
I would assume a lot of the names, architecture, and general aesthetic of Demacia is based on eastern Europe considering the similarities between the cultures we have seen so far. I mean Fiora has a full blown french accent so I think it's safe to assume you are correct.
It's safe to say that Demacia, like most standard fantasy settings, is based on medieval Europe. Latin was a very common language back then, if i recall correctly it was the official language for a bunch of things but atleast for the church who still had alot of power.
Italian is one of the languages closest to latin i think, but most of europe has words derived from it. in fact it has influence all over the wortld because of this.
Mamma or mama aren't italian words, well they are but they aren't limited to italy. As a matter of fact it's probably the best example. So far we've seen abunch of influences from different european cultures. Would be neat to hear some other names fit with other regions. Though i doubt i'll hear anything similar to where i'm from cuz somehow half earth's population thinks my country is either french or german, and they're not wrong but also not right.
I thought that Demarcia was a country inspired by Germany. However, if Demacia is also Italy, That explains why Riot is not respect Demacia.
