I feel like Riot starts of stories really well and then doesnt follow up

like my teammates.

But in all seriousness, it would be nice to know how this is all gonna turn out instead of just getting these introductions to characters, like Azir, Nasus, Renekton and then not seeing what happens.

Will we ever get a follow up event?

One day, but right now they're updating the lore & laying out the foundations for future stories. While it may suck to wait, they have to provide lore love to many regions/factions & to all champs. They can't stay with one region or set of champs too long. The Great Retcon of 2014 screw a lot of the previous ground work of the lore & they're working on fixing that. No point building stories upon an unstable foundation.

I mean they've done follow up before, Shadow & Fortune was a follow up to Burning Tides showing how GP's "death" affect Biglewater & MF, especially during the Harrowing. So they can do follow up.

The thing is that it would be kinda awkward if they focused on finishing the lores of like 5 champions in the next year, while leaving everyone else in the dust.

Every champion should have an introduction before they bother with continuing the stories of a few champs.

Well, if you think about it, let's say they do all of Shurima. Azir, Nasus, Renekton, Xerath.

They have to include Taliyah who has her own story.

Taliyah might come across Rammus or Amumu. Or better yet

There is Sivir who helped bring back Azir and Cass who stabbed her. That means they will have to work on all of them simultaneously. And before wego into "Well Rito is working on that" or whatever reasoning akin to that, the problem is everyone has a story. And while they can do a follow up, if they wrap up a champ's story within 1-2 months after they get their intro, then any lore-nut who is a fan of that champion will be sad because their champ will not show up again in any meaningful way.

I mean, Azir COULD pop up randomly, but then, his main story is already finished, there is no other true quest for him to accomplish as of right now, and Riot wants their champions to have a reason for meeting the others. Not because of "Rule of Cool" but for proper story building elements.

I rather see Azir's story come out over the procession of a year to a year and a half (I mean, if it's that long) as opposed to getting all of his development in the span of 1 or 2 months.

Riot wants to leave the lore open ended rather than finishing the stories. This allows them to add more champions in and tie them into the story rather then having to rewrite the story to include them.

Yeah, this has been an issue since like, Season 1. The old problem was "Well, the League being canon and matches in game being sorta canon means we can't have anybody die or have any big personal growth, at least not without changing their in game models/lines/whatever."

Now that that's gone, it comes to the problem of "holy shit we have like 120 something characters, some of whom have little to no lore now, we need to sort this out". Personally, I think they're getting a lot better at this lately, though. Burning Tides had real consequences and real changes for characters (Gangplank is one of my favorite champions, so I'm admittedly biased), and Jhin's color text continues the Shen VS Zed storyline. I'm excited to see what the future brings for some other characters.

They need a strong foundation in order to make a story. Think of it like this the spine of a book holds the book together. It keeps the pages in order, is sturdy enough to make sure that everything stays in place, and is flexible enough to allow the pages to flow smoothly. The backstories are needed in order for the real story to shine in a similar way. It keeps the characters moving with cause, is strong enough to give them motives for their adventures, and is also malleable enough to allow character growth. I'm sure once Riot has finished the spine they can work on the pages.
