Visual Update Idea for Summoner's Rift

I've been a player since the end of season 1 coming into season 2 and is it just me or does playing on that same Summoner's Rift map seem visually boring at this point? There's been a lot of focus on champion output, artwork updates, kit reworks, etc. but nothing in the way of a new playable map. Now, there is the age old saying of "don't fix what's not broken" and I'm not asking for a completely new map with different play-ability options (such as the crystal scar) - No. I'm asking for the same Summoner's Rift map, the 3 lane map we all know and love but with a different theme. You have such a rich lore with all these places such as Zaun, Ionia, Demacia, Noxus, Freljord, Shadow Isles, etc. but only one field of justice. Why not provide us with different eye candy? This does not require a complete gameplay overhaul, this would be an aesthetic choice like you find in many fighting games (where the gameplay doesn't change just the amount of eye candy). If an example is needed think of the aesthetic changes during the Harrowing or Snowdown. I'm not sure how this will fit in the lore established but I feel this would add more replay-ability on top of the already high bar established along with providing long time fans with something different to gush over.

I think "map-skin" would be a better word for what you want, because VU sounds like it would replace the current SR completely.

And well they did something like that with the butchers bridge,an alternate version of the aram-map,but after the bilgewater event ended, the butchers bridge went away. They said they'll look into ways to bring it back,so hopefully they find a way to keep it(although at this point it seems a bit unlikely). If they manage to find a good way to keep the butchers bridge, then that would more or less open the path to more map skins,in which case something like what you suggested wouldn't be so unlikely.

Overall it kinda looks like there is one map every year nowadays 2015 had the butchers bridge 2014 had the SR-update 2013 had the howling abyss 2012 had the twisted-treeline update So judging by the current trend it wouldn't be off if next year got a new map skin(most likely for either dominion,3v3 or SR)
