[Controversial] Who I think could have the best written lore in league if they got more added

This is gonna be extremely opinionated but here me out. Disclaimer I don't main the champ so it's not "Well you're being bias" because if that were true I would say Rakan because I like Rakan. However if I'm being honest it's not Rakan.

Let me start by explaining my reasoning on how this champ could earn the title of champ with the best lore based on what we know or whats been hinted at. First I have to explain what I feel makes lore stand out above other lore.

1-Personality, pretty self explanatory, though Rammus has a lot of hypothetical intrigue 'okay' doesn't constitute personality. Be it good or bad unless it's a part of your character that you explicitly don't have personality it's a key to good lore for me.

2-Motivation and/or a cause. Also self-explanatory, a character with no reason to be doing what their doing isn't interesting to me and so champs like Ivern who is doing who knows what for who knows why aren't gonna make it. Lucian is a good example of a character with good motivation, but outside of a few stories he is kind of bound to revolve around the same quest with no real growth. Then there's Shen on the opposite end with a cause to fight for, but with all that's happened he doesn't seem to have a driving motivation, something he works for, not something he works towards, if this were added he might've been my pick.

3-Strengths and weaknesses, character flaws, and inner struggles. For example, Braum has a lot of strengths but he has no real struggles or weaknesses really. Yasuo would be a good pick because of his personal struggles with guilt and his inability to accept forgiveness, but he doesn't take the spot because though he has many things here he misses a more important aspect.

4-Connections. A really good example of a champion with a lot of connections is Ryze, and he is probably the champion I would put directly after my choice purely because in the present though Ryze has a lot of connections as seen in the cinematic, there isn't much depth unless you look at his lore with Brand which is his strongest part in this. Darius is a really good example for this because of his position in Noxus, his relationship with Draven being fleshed out in his comic and lore, and he also has a lore connection with a child and its mother in the comic being that he was the father (allegedly but I don't know) however Darius' motivations are largely puppeted by Swain so he can't stand out and be the number one.

So who is it?

Garen Crowngaurd. Now before you throw your keyboards and rage at the screen for the audacity that I have demonstrated to insist that Mr.Spin2Win could possibly ever have the best written character in the whole of league of legends if a little more confirmations and development comes for him, hear me out some more. Some minor spoilers for LUX may happen here, be warned 1-He has a fleshed out personality, both in game, in the stories, and in the comic. He's honorable, confident (even a bit arrogant), cares about his families name and is protective of his family as seen in the Lux comic where he rushes in to find Lux after the explosion.

2-He's motivated to bring justice, spread the glory of Demacia, which is the cause that he fights 'for the glory of', he's also motivated to keep his family safe, and bring down evil.

3-While he is strong physically, Garen is oblivious to the nature of petricite, struggles with his sister being a mage while still having to maintain the laws of Demacia and preserve his family name, and as stated above he is arrogant. Not to mention Sylas literally incapacitating him after a fight.

4-Connections, not only has the Lux comic and their shared story shed light (hehe) on their relationship but it shows that Garen is caring for his sister and works hard to protect her, often unknown to her. The comic also expanded upon his closeness with J4, his interactions aunt and the guards, and shows a rival in the form of Sylas combating ideals. Not only that but he also has a rival in Darius, and many sources (pantheon, tahm kench, previous lore, his own voice lines) all point to him and Katarina either having or having in the future romantic interactions. Which should that be explored more deeply in future lore will develop him even more, first being changed by experiencing a mage rebellion caused by your sister, and then falling in love with a sworn enemy of your nation, of which he is incredibly renowned for being the leader of the Dauntless Vanguard.

So there you have it, agree, disagree, leave a comment below telling me what you think about my opinion.

Mmh... I think there is no "best written lore". Some champions appeal more than others, and for various reasons. If those are your criteria, alright. But they are way too generic, and something most champions should/will have (given your whole point is about "if they got more lore added").

See, funnily enough, not so long ago our lord and savior Scathelocke wrote this

Some Sunday thoughts. The minimum - MINIMUM! - level of authentic worldbuilding for a group/faction/character is basically:

  1. What do they believe in/want?
  2. Why do they think it's a good thing?
  3. Why might others disagree?
  4. What's currently preventing them from succeeding?

This isn't about "best written lore" but rather... Well what's written there really. For MOST champions you can find something. And from there on, it's up to personal preferences.

Garen? I loathe Garen. I don't like his values, the character isn't interesting to me. The tale of troubled siblings? I'd rather see the heartbreaking reunion and make up story of Kayle and Morgana. A strong warrior? Why not, I myself am more of a huge magical power person - I'd prefer the huge magical potential of Syndra being developped throughout stories. Human warrior? Some prefer gods or ugly creatures. All in all it really comes down to personal preferences really. Some may find Garen's story too simple to like it, and would prefer some more original stories about Celestials or Spirit Realm, etc.

I think there is potential for everyone, but not everyone sees the potential in these characters. I could write down an essay about why I think Syndra's lore could be better than Garen's, but ultimately you (and other people) may disagree and not see what I see in her, which is fine.

Garen also has a complex relation with his old childhood friend: Taric. He loves him as a friend, but due to Tarics "crimes" he couldn´t avoid his exile. It would be nice to see Garens reaction once he discovers Tarics is now an Aspect.

Depends what you're going for.

Morgana, Irelia, and Riven are all very good candidates for extremely sympathetic protagonists dealing with challenges both external and internal (Irelia and Riven definitely have mental health issues), virtuous personalities, and at least some connection to the world around them. That said, their stories would be solemn and massive hits to the feels. All three of them are still in need of many more hugs (and lore entries) than they're received thus far.

If you're going for something badass but light-hearted, I'd have to say Vi. Fun personality, chasing around her rogues gallery as motivation, definite strengths and weaknesses that result from her punch first, ask questions while punching MO, and certainly connections to plenty of people including several other champions--Jinx and Cait in particular, but Ziggs one spot removed from Jinx if the Ziggs/Jinx comic is canon. Going by the checklist, Vi basically has all the elements in spades necessary for a lot of fun lore.

Wukong is pretty self-explanatory as well. He's the classic shounen anime hero. He's basically start-of-Dragonball-Z Goku, except that rather than finding himself in a happy, peaceful setting aside from a rival, or obstacle to overcome, all of Ionia is basically one big barrel of hurt, pain, and sad right now, which would make for a different take on your classic shounen story. That, and wukong's a monkey vastaya. He's a bit lacking in connections to other champions, though.

If you want to go for badass female protagonists that aren't Vi, you have Sivir and Taliyah trying to fight against darkins, Xerath, all of the other dangers in Shurima, and potentially Cassiopeia. Katarina also has the potential to go that route if you want to go "the bad vs. the evil" route in Noxus, but she's not exactly a sympathetic character, what with being a Noxian.

Oh--there's also Leona X(XX?) Diana. Bunch of angst and tragic love on the mountain in that direction. I mean it's so close to Shakespearean that Eclipse Leona even recites Shakespeare-ish stuff at Diana! And then you get representation in the package as well, so it's a win all around.

Honestly, while the title of best "best written" league lore may be designated, I believe it's a frivolous pursuit. Why? Because league lore, as a general rule, sucks and could have been written by any 12 year old brat. I could have written the lore and it couldn't have been worse lol.

Honestly I have to say the darkin. I honestly think that they have the best shot at being leagues "main villain" or getting the league movie.about them.

Concept wise, they are the most solid of the three big evils.

  • morde, as much as I love him, suffers from a lack of connections. Outside of swain and the black rose, there is nothing. No hero to stop him after his rise .

  • The Watchers, despite being the most powerful of the three, suffer from being faceless, which prevents them from being compelling villains. If we actually knew about some specific watchers that would be different.

The Darkin on the other hand, are clearly defined villains, with distinct personalities and differences. But unlike mordekaiser, they actually have connections. Nasus, Azir, Pantheon, Zed, and plenty more know about the darlin and are working against them. Riot can pick a protagonist out of them or add a compleatly new one while they release the two remaining darlin.

So yeah, that's my opinion.

Garen and Lux do not look like biological brother and sister's. I'm thinking it would make more sense if they share only 1 parent instead of 2. It'd also add more spice if Garen and Katarina are long lost brother ans sister's, as they are rivals but they honor each other. Right now you can only say they are soul brother and sister's.

I like Taric's lore best, as well as Valmar and kai's comics.
