For those who say new Willump isn't "Yeti" enough

yeti ˈjɛti noun a large hairy creature resembling a human or bear, said to live in the highest part of the Himalayas.

It's been an ongoing trend with Riot to differentiate their own character archetypes from the bare-bones stereotypes they're based on.

Galio still very much IS a Gargoyle; as in a statue meant to repel evil spirits and magics, he was just made to fit into Riot's updated version of Demacia and Runeterra.

Warwick is THE Werewolf, but he's more than just a once-a-month kind of Furry but rather a weird chemtech splice of several different creatures, a chimeric abomination that haunts the streets of Zaun.

And new Willump is just that; He's still the abominable Snowman character, this elusive, tall, furry, somewhat humanoid mountain dweller. But Riot decided to put a different spin on it, to make the archetype THEIR own.

And that's how it's going to be with champions like Mordekaiser and Pantheon, who are both just very unimaginative stereotypes of already existing characters.

I for one adore what they did with Nunu, it preserves their theme, nay even improves on it, and it really looks like Riot put so much love and effort into making Nunu truly unique.

Now we just wait for his Skins and kit. And gods have mercy on us if Nunu Bot is even more of a meme than it already is.

Riot's spin on themes is one of the most exciting parts of the reworks. Makes me wonder what they could do with the champs you mentioned and others like Chogath Fiddlesticks . It's also one of the reasons I'm hoping they choose to rework MonkeyKing soon.

Not sure why we have to justify the visual redesign to ourselves.

We've only had one negatively opinionated thread in SA&S and that wasnt well-received. NunuMains seem to have a majority with an optimistic attitude towards it. I mean there's been more push back, knee-jerk reactions for past reworks than for this one.

It was clear from the beginning that Nunu would delve more into the whimsy category. And new Willump is the perfect example of that. A somewhat friendly looking, bear like monster (which reminds me a lot of Appa) that can easily get out of control and become brutal, but still maintains a kind of friendship with the boy that saved it from becomming a performing animal. Another thing is that they changed Nunus face from having that shit eating, punchable grin to more of a normal face of joy (at least in the pose here, I'd imagine that's just one of his facial animation), which also implies that he's just a kid, having fun with his friend and going on adventures. Also a thing I love is that Nunu is actually holding onto Willumps antlers, kind of cool and makes him seem more wild than domesticated.

4 arms? I call that they'll have a snowballer minigun ability..

You like snowballing games, don't you? Do it 4 times faster with an extra pair of hands!

And yes, it is a Yeti from Runeterra! Doesn't need to be stereotypical white bigfoot xd

I think they nailed it.

Old Willump followed a very bland, real-world influenced visualization of a yeti. This incarnation of him is still loyal to the yeti concept but gives far more uniqueness and endearing charm to it.

Idk he looks more like a wendigo with 4 arms or a Mogu from WoW. +1 because they look like a disney character so all these edgy fanboys can cry.

Alright cant wait to see the morde rework and your inevitable crying. I'll be there to tell you he's technically still in a suit of armor when they turn him into a medieval paladin.

"This creature does not look like this made up, mythological creature. Trust me, I've seen one myself."

Honestly changes like this are what make me still invested in the game. Warwick going from a generic Werewolf to a Chimeric monstrosity enhanced by chem-tech, Galio going from a generic gargoyle to becoming "The Colossus of Demacia" that comes to life only when there is strong magical energy close enough for him to absorb it and Akali going from generic shadow to... well, still a ninja, but less mortal kombat generic ninja and more of a realistic ninja with tattoos and multiple tools and such.

It's updates like these that make me exited for other generic character concepts like Spartain (Pantheon), Scarecrow (Fiddlesticks), mummy (Amumu), shadow monster (Nocturne), Mr.Hyde (DrMundo) and Sun Wukong (MonkeyKing of course) to get overhauled to fit in the current game and what kind of changes they will get to reflect this new design. I love it when a game takes on one basic theme and end up doing something crazy with it to make it their own.

Only thing that makes me sad is that MANY of these updates won't come for many years and may not even happen if the game ends in that time frame. All that aside, really happy to see a 4 armed champ finally. Had a concept years ago for one and always wanted to see one get added.

While I personally like Willump's new design, I'm going to have to disagree with you here in that I can definitely see why players are upset about the new design.

Case in point, you mention that the new Galio is still a gargoyle by definition, however, to many players who loved the old Galio like myself this new Galio we've been left with just doesn't cut the bill of what is often pictured when we think of a gargoyle. Heck, the new Galio hearkens more to sentinel design than gargoyle I think, which has bothered many players. Also from what I have seen in comments about the new Nunu, most criticism has been that they don't think Willump looks frightening enough.

So please do not try to invalidate the opinion of other players just because they don't feel the same way as you do about something. This has always been one of the major problems with reworks in my opinion is that they create a rift in the community between those who like the new design and those who do not (since reworks mandate that only one of the two designs can exist).

I have a Nunu Bot shard sitting in my hextech invenetory for years waiting for the blessed day his laugh gets more cancerous than it already is.

All I'm wondering about is what they'll do with Zombie Nunu. That skin's gonna look terrifying.

OurLestrade8/13/2018, 10:26:37 AM3 votes

The only visual issue I have is a minor gripe with the ears on Nunu's hat. Looks too Yordle-y, which I seriously hope they don't make him into.
