I see all this hate at CertainlyT and his designs. Ummm his champions are by far the funnest and most pleasing in the game as well as the most popular. Please continue to make champions and ignore the hate you get from idiots who are mad they lost to your champions.

Damn dude, you could have left it at that and this would have been a quality post. I even agreed so far, CertainlyT shouldn't lose his job. But then you said this:

...from idiots who are mad they lost to your champions.

On behalf of all of the people upset about CertainlyT's champion designs, fuck off mate. I can beat a Yasuo and I will still hate the champion. His kit is frustrating to play against and it has no place in a champion roster like League of Legends's Roster. Peoples' frustration is not rendered invalid simply because they are salty over losing to the champions. And its not just people who lose to them who are upset.

CertainlyT is like George Lucas. When he's got supervisors and people around him who tell him "No, let's not go there," or "No, that will ruin this," he does amazing things with his innovative mind, like make A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Warwick.

However, when given full creative control and little to no supervision, disaster happens. You end up with things like The Prequel Trilogy, Jar Jar Binks, Yasuo, Kalista, Thresh, Darius, Zyra, and Zoe. All of his champions in which he's been given complete control over have been broken hardcore, much like the Prequels were bloated incoherent messes.

CertainlyT, like George Lucas, needs people above him to reign in his designs and slap him over the knuckles every time he tries to break the game with purely untested innovation. He has fantastic ideas, yes, but remember, nuclear power was also a fantastic idea, that when innovated too much ended in the creation of weapons of destruction. Innovation needs to stretch the boundaries and break them, but not break them, obliterate them, and them proceed to destroy everything else in reality.

Champions made by CertainlyT sound amazing when pitched and really fun to play, but they often are not fun to play against.

-Illaoi was not made by CertainlyT, as pointed out by another poster. I've removed this line accordingly. -Yasuo was designed to survive the midlane as a duelist, but the requirement of early-game mobility and all-in required for a melee midlaner and the scaling required for a duelist have made him almost impossible to balance since.
-Zoe can repeatedly and frequently put opponents in dodge-or-die situations without having to put herself in danger or expend significant resources, and she can also pick enemies from extreme range or unpredictable positions. -Kalista, like Yasuo, has a kit that is almost impossible to balance, especially in competitive play. Her kit's reliable mobility, range, and burst keep her safe while granting surprisingly strong all-ins to her and incontestable epic camp control to her team.

Zyra and Darius are also hard-to-balance champs, and their heydeys still loom large over the community's impression of their designer. Thresh can be scary or hard to play against, but the skill needed to play him, along with a kit that is designed to do more than set up easy kills, has made him more loved than loathed.

I want to preface this by saying that I don't have a problem with Certainly T specifically or any other designers or developers. I appreciate the product that is out there right now. I played a few games today and all were enjoyable.

Every champion doesn't need a "new mechanic" to be enjoyable and/or function well. Looking at Zoe, they made 2 "new abilities" that had never been used before? (I'm not counting the ult because Leblanc and Zed have similar mechanics even if there are significant differences)

1st design space is limited so IF you have a good idea for a totally new thing why are you going to waste two on one champion (btw I think sleep is a terrible mechanic more on that later while I really do love the w mechanic where she steals a summoner as a new thing that totally works in her kit and is fun and exciting. I appreciate a little RNG in my games). 2nd balancing and everything that goes into a new ability can get screwy when you put two never before balanced things on the same champion (obviously Kalista is the best example of a poorly designed champion due to attempting to balance two totally new things in her kit)

Think about the amount of effort that went into making sleep a totally separate thing from a stun in League (I'm not totally sure but I'm sure it's more than if they had just coded zoe's stun to end upon being damaged). All of that and what is the payout... I'm sure we'll see sleep again eventually but doubt that it'll be in the next 3-4 champions and by the time they do bring a champion with sleep they'll probably still give a stun sized cd. It's basically stun that isn't affected by tenacity but breaks upon damage or whatever.

Keep it simple (KISS), the game is so complex with 140 champions and all the little interactions. we don't need sleep to be completely different than stun in order for us to enjoy the champion. At least make an effort for common sense interactions like tenacity working on sleep. It's common sense that it should but it's never fun to find out mid game or to have to research for ourselves these little interactions. There are enough bugs in the game without over complicating things. Just today I'm learning new interactions such as how blast cone and event horizon work (this one works just as I'd expect it to work, you don't make it over the wall even though the wall looks short it's really very tall). So many things to discover, I'd rather not have any unnecessary complications. People talk about "power creep" when the real problem is "complexity creep".

Look at Jhin and how simplistic his design is. They hit a home run with his attack speed but outside of that his abilities are so simple and yet he is one of the most beloved champions to both play with and play against. Things don't have to be overly complicated to work well and be beloved by players.

Well I gave my upvote, hope it's appreciated in some way.

I don't play any of the champs Certainly has worked on, yet I've never particularly had an issue with them or playing against them. Despite the whingeing of a vocal group, who do make a valid point from time to time. I still resonate more with this thread's core message than any justified argument against those particular champions.

I love the new mechanics he brings in. my one problem though is he tends to also give them another amazing ability on top of their mechanic(s). eg: Kalista. Bunny hop is an amazing new mechanic. Rend kinda ruins that, or you could go the other way around for her.

He's even one the few who actually design their kits to fir their lore. I'm not sure alot of designers do that...

Outside of Thresh and maybe Kalista/Yasuo, I really don't see how you can make the case that "his champions are by far the funnest and most pleasing in the game"

not when someone like Riot August/Gypsy have Jinx, Gnar, Ekko, and Jhin under his belt

don't forget about the brilliant team of Rioters that made Bard too

ZeroAgainst1/2/2018, 7:16:07 AM2 votes

but all he adds is toxic mechanics that make league worst instead of stuff like draven with his axe catching systems.Or shit like kha zix evolution.

CertainlyT's champion are funny to play. They are not funny to play against. Except Warwick, doggo is good.

AquariuSol1/6/2018, 5:20:31 PM1 votes

Darius Thresh Zyra Yasuo Kalista Zoe All of the champions he created (Not reworks)

Fun to play as and annoying to play against champions is not equal to a flawed and bad design imo.
