Black Champions in League

Are the champions Karma, Lucian, and Ekko cannon black? The issue of Karma has been bothering me for a while as some people argue she is asian when she seems noticably dark-skinned to me. What are you guyses thoughts on this topic? Thank you! :)

Erhm, China, Korea, and Japan aren't the only Asian countries. There are many darkskinned people even in those three.

Karma is Indian, just dark-skinned.

RiotVlad said Karma was "black" to a cosplayer who was herself "african" many a year ago, but he wasn't working for Riot during Karma's release.

That aside I BELIEVE she is probably Indian keeping with Ionia's pan Asian theme.

Now the real question is....is Nidalee black or mesoamerican (in relation to real world people)?

Her parents were on safari, and died, leaving her alone in the rain forest, so she isn't from there. There's also the question of how, if she is a kinky HAIRED woman (we already know she's kinky) how she straightened her hair over the years.

Probably, yes, yes, and I frankly don't care as long as they aren't walking stereotypes.

Squeaky Dreemurr9/1/2015, 2:01:00 AM2 votes

They are probably of mixed races

Karma, Lucian, Ryze (despite his skin disorder of being blue do to his power of the arcane) are all respectable black champions. (lore wise too)

While Ekko is a hooligan stereotype.

As for the "karmas not black! she is w/e!" Implying people don't travel to settle in other parts of the world. Karma is black, she is a strong independent black woman.

the only black champions in league of legends are Ekko, Lucian, Illaoi, and karma.

Reviving old threads that already had their time to shine is against Universal Rules and as such I will be locking this thread to make sure it lands at the bottom of the howling abyss. I would encourage looking at how old a thread is before commenting on it.

Race is a pretty mute point in my book. 99% of the world probably has more than one race in their family tree. The idea of "pure" race is mainly BS. I had a great, great, great grandfather who was half black, which makes me 3% black. Yet looking at me you would never guess it.

Also, I knew a guy who was albino, but his parents were both black. So is he black or is he white? If you asked him, he would tell you black even though he was whiter than I could ever be.

South Asia or Southern Asia is a term used to represent the southern region of the Asian continent, which comprises the sub-Himalayan countries. Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan (debatable), Maldives, Sri Lanka. All of these countries are in Asia, specifically south Asia and a lot of their people have dark skin that can be just as dark a Sub-Saharan African skin. Hence, Karma is "Asian" (or the Runeterran equivalent which is Ionian)

end of discussion.

Lucian and Ekko are most definitely black though.

Karma has a black name but is dark skinned Indian.

What about Quinn, that is an Irish name. Is she considered White or Irish?

Lordfoxbee12/19/2017, 11:20:05 AM1 votes

I find it incredibly racist that the amount of AFRICAN AMERICAN champions is not properly represented, imagine being an oppressed POC and playing League and playing white champion the fucking horror I can't imagine.

BTW if you downvote you are a nazi

Dude Karma is not black!! you made the same mistake as my friend did:( She is Indian, and Indians are not black.

TurquoiseYoshi8/31/2015, 9:48:27 PM1 votes

Karma is from Ionia, an area well known for being a very spiritual area, in the way that Japan is. Most champions from Ionia look alike to a traditional Japanese person.

A friend of mine has told me that Karma has been explicitly said to be black, but I've never seen the source.
