Name: Volare Title: Smirking Prince of Raptors, Demigod of Predatory Birds Age: Ageless Height: 5'11" Weight: 135 pounds Gender: Male Species: Anthropomorphized Humanoid Harpy Eagle Affiliation: The natural world. Weapon: Divine strength and his incredibly powerful claws. Class: Fighter Appearance and Description: Volare, just shy of six feet, is an imposing character. He's got the body of a particularly pale human runner - wiry and lithe, but the comparison fails when his feet are taken into account. His "feet" are black claws of immense power and size, befitting the harpy eagle he was before his apotheosis. Along his forearms and shins are patches of seaweed green to strawberry pink feathers, though these do nothing to help him fly - as he seems to levitate a good five inches off the ground - more to the point, there aren't enough to truly grant him flight; they appear to be an affectation, purely ornamental. Across his body, pale red lines are tattooed in abstract tribal patterns, which, upon closer inspection, are a part of his natural skin pigmentation.

Despite his menacing talons, his face, with its aquiline nose and sharp angular features always bears a permanent smile. His ears are decidedly elven in nature, pointed and pronounced, jutting from short, wild hair a deep blue-green, with dark, blood red tips.

For decency's sake, he wears a simple loincloth.

Why the deity of a predatory species would display such vibrant colors is simple - his philosophy is one of enjoyment of life. He genuinely enjoys the colors he wears, and dislikes dour colors more common in other animals. It's this juxtaposition between his horrifically violent nature and his desire to balance it with friendliness and a cheerful nature that makes up the crux of his character. A conscience is a miserable thing to give to a creature not known for its compassion.

Lore:

All I could see was blood, viscera, and my own tears, blurring the world. I sat nestled in the bole of a tree, my knees tucked under my chin. Not twenty feet from my hidey-hole lie the body of a fawn, feebly struggling against the gaping hole in its stomach. Its chest rose and fell with a feverish intensity that I knew wouldn't last.

The only thing I could think of was that I had missed. I had missed the heart, or I had missed the jugular, or I had missed the brain. It didn't matter what I missed - just that I did. Blood stained my talons, and I gripped them spasmodically, simultaneously afraid of what they represented, and angry that they had failed. I did not have the presence of mind to make the connection that I had failed them.

The deer bleated from where it lay, kicking up mud into a frothing sanguine pool. I could smell the rusty tang of blood over the scent of the beast's innards, but the odor of offal was all too apparent.

I watched the light flicker and pass through the canopy of the forest, and I knew that an interminably long time had passed for both of us. Myself, and this fawn. The fawn's breathing had grown labored and its movements less intense. I do not think I had blinked for some time.

Finally, from the sky, a voice rang out, "Volare, is that you?"

"Father!" I cried, elated.

"Volare!" from somewhere nearby, I heard my father land amidst the clearing.

I struggled out from beneath my nest of roots and scrambled upright, my talons digging furrows into the soft soil. I looked left, then right, finally spying my father, Petomai, staring at the fawn. I run to him, my arms wide. I have been alone for hours, scared. I want nothing more than to embrace him; to have him tell me that everything will be alright.

Instead, I am rocked off my feet, struck hard across the face by my father.

"Petulant child!" my father says, moving with great speed across the clearing. He wastes no time in sinking his talons into the fawn's neck and ripping it out. "How long has it suffered, with you playing silent witness to its pain?"

"I... I don't know... I didn't know what to do..." That was a lie. I knew what to do. I knew to end its life, but... but what? Why did I falter?

"Boy, come here." I staggered to my feet and crept over, sulking.

"Look, Volare," my father said, gathering me to him and holding me close to the slain beast, "This noble creature's last hours of life were of pain, fear, and confusion. It did not know why it suffered as it did. Do you know why?"

"... Because I failed." I admit, brushing a tear from my cheek.

"Yes. Know that this fawn has not failed you. It has died so that you may live. It was born so that you may feed. It has done everything as it was supposed to - you merely robbed it of its just reward - I painless death. A fearless death. Look at it."

I do so. It eyes have that lifeless quality to them - dim and lusterless.

"Death is a part of our lives, Volare. They are bloody, violent affairs that we live at the expense of those less able. If this life has taught me anything it is that we should be thankful for every life, no matter how small." My father's hands rested gently on on the shoulder of the fawn, the only spot on its dappled hide to not be stained by blood. "Celebrate life. Celebrate every creature. But more, celebrate that which dies so that you may live, because they are truly divine."

"Most importantly, Volare," my father tucked his chin against my head, "Never forget them. Never forget. Because they will never forget you."

We sat like that for a good minute, watching nature unfold. Though the scene was bloody and tragic, the light continued to shine and the fawn's sacrifice would foster new growth, and life would go on.

Passive: Butcherbird - Damaging an opponent who is afflicted with any of the following crowd-control effects inflicts additional true damage to that opponent - stun, suppress, knock up, immobilize, charm, or fear. This ability cannot damage a single opponent more than once every 8 seconds.

Bonus True Damage: 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 120(+.3 Bonus AD)(At 1, 3 , 5 , 7 , 9 , 11 , 13 , 15 , 17 and 18 respectively.) Internal Cooldown: 8 seconds

Q: Crush Claw - Volare launches himself into the air towards a distant location. He lands feet first, seizing any opponent in his absurdly powerful claws. Any opponent he immediately lands on is stunned, while opponents in the immediate vicinity are knocked back as Volare impacts the area hard.

Physical Damage Dealt: 60 / 105 / 150 / 195 / 240 (+70% bonus AD) Radius(Stun): 1-150 units Radius(Knockback): 151-250 units Range: 450 units Stun Duration: 1 second. Knockback Distance: 150 units Cooldown: 18 / 17 / 16 / 15 / 14 seconds Mana Cost: 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 mana

W: Aerial Ace - Volare rockets across the area, raking foes as he passes with his claws. If he strikes two or more enemies, he receives a movement speed boost. Auto attacks reduce the cooldown of this ability by .5 seconds. Auto attacks against champions reduce the cooldown by 1 second instead.

If Volare doesn't hit at least one enemy champion, this ability's cooldown is increased by 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10 seconds. If the cooldown is so increased, auto attacks cannot reduce the cooldown.

Physical Damage Dealt: 45 / 90 / 135 / 180 / 225 (+60% Bonus AD) Movement Speed Boost: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30% Movement Speed Boost Duration: 2 seconds Cooldown Reduction/Non-Champion: .5 seconds Cooldown Reduction/Champion: 1 second Range: 450 Cooldown: 18 / 17 / 16 / 15 / 14 seconds Mana Cost: 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 mana

E: Bladed Pinions: Passive: Volare's feathers do not bear the burden of holding him aloft. As a result, the demigod, in control of his body's composition, has sharpened his feathers to a razor's edge, and increased their weight dramatically. Volare's auto attacks cause and refresh a stacking debuff called “Thin Skin”.

Duration of Thin Skin: 3 / 3.5 / 4 / 4.5 / 5 seconds Maximum Number of Stacks: 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / 10 stacks

Active: Volare lashes out with his razor-feathered forearms, laying into the area around him. This is a point blank area effect technique which consumes all stacks of Thin Skin on an opponent, causing the opponent to bleed profusely for each stack consumed. If the maximum amount of stacks available are consumed, the foe is slowed. Additionally, for the next four seconds, Volare's auto attacks deal bonus physical damage. While this ability is on cooldown, Bladed Pinion's passive is unavailable.

Physical Damage Over Time Per Stack: 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 (+10% Bonus AD) Auto Attack Bonus Physical Damage: 10 / 12.5 / 15 / 17.5 / 20 (+30% Bonus AD) Duration of Profuse Bleeding: 2 seconds Duration of Bladed Pinions: 4 seconds Cooldown: 12 seconds Mana Cost: 50 mana

R: Shrike Break! - Volare targets an enemy and enters Shrike Break! During Shrike Break!, both his opponent and himself are suppressed as Volare darts across the area and grapples them. Immediately upon using this ability, a sequence of letters appear (always using the letters Q, W, and E, in any order). The suppression lasts two seconds - the amount of time you have to input the combo.

For each letter in the sequence you manage to hit, Volare strikes the opponent with a powerful blow. You can only input three letters in this. If one is entered incorrectly, Volare fails to connect with one of his strikes. If all three are entered correctly, Volare immediately kicks off his opponent, knocking them back 200 units, and causing Volare to jump back 200 units.

If the suppress is interrupted, the attack fails, though any keys entered correctly still deal their damage.

Suppress Duration: 2 seconds Combo Options: Any combination of Q, W, and E. Doubles will never pop up like QQW, but may pop up like QWQ. Physical Damage Per Correct Entry: 125 / 200 / 275 (+100% Bonus AD) Maximum Physical Damage: 375 / 600 / 825 (+300% Bonus AD) Correct Combo Knockback/Jump Back: 200 units Range: 400 units Cooldown: 120 / 100 / 80 seconds Mana Cost: 100 mana.

Challenges:

  • With the last stretch between Runeterra and a possibly better future, it needs to endure. This means that for Champions that are on the side of keeping Runeterra around, want to "Break the Siege", don't just sit around and take it, go make sure that you can still go on! Your concept should be able to reflect that aspect in some ability, or even playstyle.

Volare is an exceptionally aggressive, mobile champion who excels at getting in your face.

  • Defenders of Runeterra, you have been able to take shit for a long time, because of that you don't mind waiting a little longer. Reflect this with the use of Channel times. Whether or not the ability procs after the channel time I leave to your discretion.

Shrike Break has a channel time. More accurately, it's a time limit for you to input a series of key combinations. If you do not input any keys, it's still a two second channeled suppress.

"A conscience is a great, terrible gift. Few should bear such a burden."

Whooooo... time to break down points...

I'm going to give you a run down of the points you are given and I'll need you to tell me who you have reviewed for bonus points if you have reviewed anyone.

As it stands you have...

Mechanics - 7/10

  • You have some decent stats, but they are actually less than most fighters that are already in the game. That would make this character massively skill and item reliant.

  • Your passive is actually really good, I had doubts considering it is very similar to Talon's passive but the restriction to the number of times the true damage can proc is restrictive enough to make it a force to deal with in game, but not something that will automatically screw someone. In terms of true damage it isn't as strong as Twitch's passive but Twitch's is over time and is unrestricted. Good work!

  • Saying your Q is over powered isn't an overstatement, the cc it provides is good and all, but doing two kinds of cc to different enemies within a decent aoe is something that could break laning phase. Also, the only other champion I can think of off the top of my head that can isolate a champ and knock back the others around them is Vi whose ability to do that is her ultimate.

  • Your W is interesting, but you don't give any indication as to where you land, or if you can be interrupted. I find I also have to compare this ability to Vi's q which is the closest ability I can think of to it while I'm judging this. You don't have as much potential damage or chaos that can be caused by Vault Breaker, but you do have the speed buff. I find this tricky to figure out but it does seem to fit with your character's kit. The cooldown is crippling though.

  • The E could be better, the DoT from stacking attacks then activating the ability is nice and creative but you need to get a lot of auto attacks in which a character designed for Siege-Breaking doesn't have the luxury to do. Once Volare does get into a fight, he does have the potential to position himself through his Q and W except he wont have the time to use the E active to it's full extent. It doesn't contribute to the kit and doesn't synergize with his other abilities, the ability would be better on an assassin that can get stacks down without being worried about the entire enemy team targeting them.

  • Your R is also not the most effective for a Siege-Breaker, as an Ultimate it seems to be the forbidden love child of Quinn's Vault and Warwick's Duress. Something with the jump back not being instant it doesn't have very much disengage potential, and for a suppress it doesn't last very long, considering with the entering of keys you want Volare to get out of the situation ASAP. It is, like your E, an ability better suited for an Assassin, punishing an enemy and then getting out.

Character - 10/10

  • Your lore is good, it defines your character and gives them depth.

  • You have a character description reminiscent of Dungeons and Dragons that proves that Volare is well thought through and fleshed out as a champion.

  • All of your abilities scream of hunting birds and considering Volare's title, nice.

  • You quoted a philosopher that people typically hate dealing with and did so in a way that was both parallel to your character's personality and with great style points.

  • I think you've given me false hope for further character designs. Q.Q

Challenges - 6/10

  • Channel Times : Yep you have them, and a lot of other over time effects as well that can stress the ability to get things done over periods of time. Though the channel time isn't long and isn't the best suited for the champion you've made.

  • Siege-Breaker : Not really... You have some abilities that allow for Volare to get in there and cause some disturbance, but not enough to ensure survival which leads to not being able to give your allies follow-up time, if they can't get in there within your 1 second initiate. If they can't capitalize on Volare's engage, or capitalize while Volare is in middle of the enemy team, the engage will lead to the enemies being fed another kill. You can use this champion as a Siege-Breaker, but not as a reliable one.

Total = 23/30 without having any reviews you may have done being included for the bonus points.

Over all, your character is good, but needed more people to go through it. It's like a draft, your going to need to edit it a couple times to get the best you can from it, but for a 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd draft, Volare is really good, just not final product material.
