Meztli, Prophet of the Moon Primary: Fighter Secondary: Assassin

Inspiration I had previously posted a champion concept called Ignatius, the crusader but this is supposed to be a revision based on the comments I recieved. I planned Ignatius to be a paladin-like angel but a comment from Captain Tucan (NA) pointed out that he would have too much in common with Kayle and wouldn't make him unique. Later on, a comment and link made by StormLogic (NA) provided with the idea of creating a champion based on an Aztec warrior. I did research on Aztec civilization and found out there were two high ranking Aztec warriors: Jaguar and Eagle Warriors. Both warrior types wore head masks and uniforms of their respective animals. The Eagle Warriors chose the eagle because of the belief it symbolized the sun and were followers of the sun god, Nanahuatzin. On the other hand, the Jaguar Warriors chose the Jaguar to symbolize the god of the night sky Tezcatlipoca but also worship the moon god Tecciztecatl. After finding this information, I chose the Jaguar Warrior as my new champion as I found him more interesting. And since Jaguar warriors have a connection with the moon, I could somehow link him to Diana. I chose his name to be Meztli because it means moon in Nahuatl (Aztec language). I put in an image from creative-horizon's deviant art page to show what he would look like. He wields a weapon called Mācuahuitl and a shield called Chīmalli with a symbol similar to the one on Diana's ForeheadDiana . He wears light armor and the mask of a jaguar. http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/035/6/7/aztec_jaguar_by_creative_horizon-d38sfoi.jpg

Lore During the time of the Rune Wars, three tribes existed on Mount Targon: Rakkor, Solari and Lunari. These tribes lived in peace among each other but were constantly at war with the other city-states. Of these tribes, the Rakkor were the largest and least civilized. They were bred for war and thought of nothing else. The Solari were a tribe which came out of the Rakkor and devoted their lives to the worshipping of the sun. In the valley of Mount Targon lived another tribe called the Lunari. They were the smallest in number of the tribes and were devout worshippers of the moon. Meztli was one of the priests that lived in the temples dedicated to the moon. One day, he received a vision of all his people being slaughtered by the Solari and the Rakkor bringing an end to the disciples of the moon. He warned the other leaders of his visions he had received but none listened to him. He then attempted to warn the people of the upcoming doom but still no one would listen. Most of the Lunari believed that the Solari wouldn’t attack them since balance had to be kept. But the truth was, The Solari wanted to purge the Lunari from Mount Targon so that it could symbolize a holy place for the followers of the sun only. They had also convinced the Rakkor tribe to join in their cause. The other leaders of the Lunari imprisoned Meztli to keep him quiet but even there he warned the guards and other inmates. Soon, it brought panic amongst the Lunari and so, Meztli was exiled. What Meztli saw in his vision soon came to pass and so did the genocide and extinction of the Lunari tribe. But during his exile, he saw another vision. This time he saw a woman born of the Solari become a champion of the Moon and reform the Lunari tribe once again. Meztli was granted power and longevity from the moon so that when the time comes for the champion of the Moon would arrive: he would aid in her cause and fulfill her destiny.

I like the theme a lot. I would love an aztec themed champion. That being said, numbers are way too high across the board.

I mean, look at his Q. If it was just a 120 (+.3 AP) on-hit effect, it would already be borderline OP. But on top of that, it has a built in dash, plus 365 points of up-front base damage. Assuming he attacks four times in those four seconds, the ability deals 840 base damage, with insane scaling (2.2 AP scaling, 1.3 bonus AD scaling).

Active: Meztli raises his shield and empowers it with lunar energy reducing all damage he takes by 20/60/100/140/200 (+30% AP) damage (except true damage) for 3 seconds.

Wait, so is this a shield? Or does it reduce all incoming damage by 200 for 3-5 seconds? If it's the latter, it's, again, severely overtuned. Think about how much potential damage reduction that is. Imagine an ADC auto attacks him 4 times while the ability is up. Factoring in the passive (which is also overpowered), this ability has prevented a total of 1016 damage. The ability also has a very high uptime. If he stacked 40% cdr, he could theoretically have this effect on him over 50% of the time.

You have a couple cool gameplay hooks here, but the numbers need to be much lower.

This guy is so cool. I like the concept art for his appearance, it gives him that ancient feel and his sword is SO COOL! If Riot actually went with this idea, i would buy it :) This guy fills the role of fighter perfectly, and also does the assassination role perfectly. But, i feel like his passive should only affect himself, because it seems like a supporting kind of thing, if it's an aura. Is there a cooldown on the passive? or does it always happen when he uses an ability on an enemy champion? I feel like his passive is like a free phage, or a sivir ult at level 1. Can you clarify?

Nifty kit, very Diana'ish, which you might have been aiming for. His mixed scaling seems like it could be a issue though.

Also I agree, the scalings and base numbers are really high for someone with so much mobility and tankyness. Remember how hard they nerfed Diana after she came out because she could be a tanky assassin? We don't want another one of those. Is he suppose to be AD or AP? Having 100% AP scaling and 150% AD scaling on somethings would be a major issue, you probably remember how hard they hit Kayle with the nerf bat. This is seeming like Assassin kayle, which would be a nightmare. . Depending on how you build the AA damage on the Q could be really absurd to, 120 base damage is to much, especially with some scalings behind it.

Just like Diana, I also see a Identity issue with this guy. Is he suppose to be a fighter? He has a shield, is he suppose to be a assassin? He has the damage for it and mobility for it. Where as his passive is more support oriented. A jack of all trades generally isn't good to aim for.

Very cool concept though, I'd love that R on Diana, but it'd be seriously OP. A 1 second 700 range AoE stun is to much, WITH the ability to do it again in 5 seconds, be stepping on malphites toes there, it would need some downsides. Like with Diana at least you could put the additional "target must be affected by moonlight to be stunned" or something.

I do love the idea of more interaction with the Solari and Lunari, they need some love.

I really like it but i think the ad scalings are too high 150% is a ton of damage. Plus on his other abilities but his w he has huge scalings he will destroy people. His ult cooldown is really short for a stun that does 100% percent ad and he can have up to 2 stored.

From comments I have received, I have changed some of his abilities.

  1. Passive has been reworked.
  2. Reduced the AP ratio on the second cast of his Q from 100% AP to 50% AP.
  3. Increased the range in the second cast of his Q from 350 to 500.
  4. The passive on his W now includes damage reduction taken from basic attacks by large monsters.
  5. Reduced the AD ratio on his E from 150% bonus AD to 100% bonus AD.
  6. Increased the knockback range from 50 units to 100 units
  7. Changed the AD ratio on his R from 100% AD to 100% bonus AD.
  8. Changed the stun for 1 second on his R to a 40% slow for 2 seconds.
  9. Reduced the range on his R from 700 to 600

Just looking at his identity, nothing in his appearance has anything to do with the moon. I am all for an Aztec style Jaguar Warrior, but he actually has to have some sort of connection to being a Jaguar Warrior. Nothing about him makes me think "oh, I bet he is a moon warrior". Nothing about him looks remotely like the lunari either. Regarding his kit, he has a cool mix of mobility, defense and damage, as well as hybrid scalings. My only issues with it are that he almost seems to have too much of everything. For his W specifically, if it reduces flat damage on hit, then it should be a lot lower considering the damage his other abilities deal (it gives him way to much tankiness to be balanced), If you made it reduce that much damage from the next spell that hits him for example, it would be slightly less over powered, and then you could do something like storing that damage as a charge or reflecting the damage back at attackers somehow. Other than these things, he has a LOT of potential.

I have added a few changes mainly to balance his W.

  1. Changed the basic attack reduction on the passive of his W from 3 x his level to 3/8/13/18/23.
  2. Changed the active on his W, from flat damage reduction for 2-4 seconds to flat damage reduction for the next 3 abilities in 4 seconds.
