##First of all, i would like to thank you all for your continuous support. Together we can make this project of ours prominent and successful! This is my third update on the "Nightmare Project". It has been about a month since i first launched the project in the boards and i never thought i would see results this early! Surrender at 20, a profound news site about LoL, posted news involving some updates, new content and quick gameplay thoughts on August 25, 2017. To my surprise, LoL game designer Meddler gave his thoughts on a few champions about potential and upcoming reworks... one them being Nocturne. This wonderful disclosure has made me extremely eager to continue the project because they are listening! Riot has been listening since the beginning! Anyway, Please do not hesitate to upvote/comment on this discussion. I appreciate all feedback!

Nocturne Nocturne

  • I have made some improvements on Nocturne's kit from the previous update thanks to your feedback! We agreed that his Q - Nightfall was too strong, able to deal insane damage at early levels. His Passive - Nightmarish Blades, no longer stacks indefinitely but up to a total of 5 times. Finally, his ultimate Phantasmagoria no longer fears per apparition encountered and now has a cool new feature! let me show you what i mean...

#Passive - Nightmarish Blades

  • AOE damage revmoved strikes surrounding enemies for 110% attack damage
  • Multitude of AD and AS gained per stack receives 5-10% (based on level) attack speed and 5-10 (based on level) attack damage receives 4-10% (based on level) attack speed and 3-9 (based on level) attack damage
  • Now has a stack limit Stacks indefinitely Stacks up to 5 times

#Q - Nightfall

  • Damage lowered 45/75/105/135/165 10/30/50/70/90
  • No longer deals double damage to feared targets
  • Now has a 100% critical strike chance against feared units

#W - Midnight Shroud

  • Ability description altered obscuring shield insidious shield

#E - Night Stalker

  • Mana cost lowered 70/80/90/100/110 60/70/80/90/100
  • Movement Speed slowly decays now when stealth is lost

#R - Phantasmagoria

  • Apparitions no longer deal damage nor fear but further reduce sight radius 100/150/200 (+50% AP) magic damage and fearing them for 1 second reduces the sight radius of the target to 250 range for 0.75 seconds
  • Active ability reverted! Nocturne can launch himself at an enemy champion that is within the obscured area, dealing 150/300/450 (+150% Bonus AD)

##Why Rework Nocturne?

  • Unfortunately, Nocturne is not truly living his name in the fields of justice. Nocturne the Eternal Nightmare should be the most feared and apprehended champion in league of legends. Moreover, he should have the highest ban rate in contrast with all the other champions to compliment his persona: The Living/Eternal Nightmare". Nocturne is in need of a rework that will serve to make him what he was intended to be... A complete nightmare.

"Do you fear me summoner?..."

  • Nocturne

Nightmarish Blades Passive: Every 10 seconds, Nocturne strikes surrounding enemies and fears each target hit for 1 second. Critical strikes reduce the cooldown of "Nightmarish Blades" by 1 second. Additionally, Nocturne receives 4-10% (based on level) attack speed and 3-9 (based on level) attack damage for 3 seconds per enemy unit feared. Stacks up to 5 times.

Q: Nightfall Cost: 20/25/30/35/40 Cooldown: 8/7/6/5/4

Active: Nocturne stains his blades with malevolent thoughts, gaining 115/130/145/160/175 bonus attack range and deals 10/30/50/70/90 (+100% AD)(+45% AP) bonus physical damage on his next basic attack within the next 4 seconds. This ability resets the attack timer and has a 100% critical strike chance against feared units.

W: Midnight Shroud Cost: 40/45/50/55/60 Cooldown: 22/20/18/16/14

Passive: Nocturne empowers his blades, permanently giving him critical strike damage 5/10/15/20/25% and attack speed 5/10/15/20/25%

Active: Nocturne shrouds himself with an insidious shield for 1 second that absorbs all enemy projectiles that hit it. Absorbing a projectile grants Nocturne massive movement speed for 2 seconds when moving toward enemy champions that had their spell absorbed and allows Nocturne to recast this ability to activate "Midnight Specter" within the next 5 seconds.

W: Midnight Specter
Active: Nocturne becomes a figment of nightmares for 1.50 seconds. Allowing him to ignore unit collision, become invulnerable and untargetable and unable to attack for the duration. While in this form, Nocturne will fear enemies within his attack range for 1.50/1.75/2/2.25/2.50 seconds.

E: Night Stalker Cost: 60/70/80/90/100 Cooldown: 14/12.5/11/9.5/8

Passive: Reduces the cooldown of "Night Stalker" by 1 second when striking a feared enemy champion.

Active: Nocturne engulfs himself in total darkness after channeling for 1.5 seconds becoming camouflaged for 6 seconds. While unseen, Nocturne gains 8/11/14/17/20%(+8% Bonus AD)(+4% AP) movement speed that slowly decays when stealth is lost and will critically strike after been spotted. Reactivating "Night Stalker" while channeling will cancel it, giving Nocturne the movement speed immediately for 1 second regardless of stealth but will not critically strike. Champion kills and assists refresh "Night Stalker's" cooldown.

R: Phantasmagoria Cost: 100 Cooldown: 120/100/80 Range: 1500/1750/2000

Passive: +20/35/50% tenacity while inside "Phantasmagoria's" range

Active: Nocturne floods the area around him with an ominous darkness, reducing the sight radius of all enemy champions in the area to 500 range and removing their ally vision for 5/6/7 seconds. Nocturne then manifests unspeakable apparitions of himself within the darkness that automatically launch themselves to enemy champions once they are spotted. The apparitions deal no damage but reduce the sight radius of the target to 250 range for 0.75 seconds. Additionally, Nocturne can launch himself at an enemy champion that is within the obscured area, dealing 150/300/450 (+150% Bonus AD).

Been loving these Nocturne VGU posts of yours. I've been craving a full VGU for Nocturne for over a year, and am glad Meddler recently mentioned Nocturne showing his age. With thst being said I really hope they don't just do a small gameplay update, but decide to give him the full VGU treatment. Give his some clear strengths and weaknesses, make him fun and rewarding to play, and especially don't hold back on creating the best possible champion model and thematics. He has the greatest potential for a totally terrifying yet awesome champion in the game imo.

Just out of curiosity, what is the reasoning behind replacing his current ultimate, paranoia, with this new one, phantasmagoria? I don't see how this makes it either more balancable nor more unique. Changing his ultimate like this just feels to me like change for the sake of change. All the rest looks good though, especially his w and e giving him more ways in and out of a fight pre-6 which will make him able to be played as an assassin.

Interesting. I like the ultimate a lot, but the erasure of the Duskbringer trail is disappointing. W is mildly overloaded, offering a tad too much defensive and mobility prowess, and his E is perfectly fine. I feel like Nocturne's build path identity is gone with this, however: you're building crit. instead of building as an attack speed bruiser. This also converts his nature into that of an assassin. Not sure why the AP scaling are here. "He should have the highest ban rate." I don't think you should construct a champion with ban rates in mind. Wanting high ban rates literally mean you don't want to see this champion.

I just want to say thanks for making this post from a fellow nocturne main. I have made many posts in the past to try and shed some light onto nocturne with little to no avail except for 3 years ago LOL. I like what you have going on here and the amount of detail you put into this post. I may not agree with everything 100% but I like that Riot is looking and remembering who the eternal nightmare is.

I did make a post on reddit recently about current nocturne and a potential variation to his current kit which had some decent feedback for how small it was. I suggested that if nocturne successfully feared a champion or monster, his passive would reset. I think it would not only boost his clear but dueling power. What do you think about this variation to his current kit?

CasualPeachSax8/29/2017, 3:17:53 AM1 votes

Questions :

  1. What is the duration of his passive's attack speed and attack damage bonuses ?
  2. Can you channel your E during your W's invulnerability ?

Toughts :

His W seems a little overloaded with the passive + the two actives.

I think his E should only have either the refresh on kill or the reduce cd on hit, both seems pushed.

Tenacity on his ultimate feels odd since it already gives him the ability to be unseen. I'd prefer going for an extra fear or something to synergize well with his kit.

Otherwise, great job, I like it.

150/300/450 (+150% Bonus AD)

Am I the only one who thinks that this scaling on high range target ability would be dreadful to play against? With 100 bonus AD the damage would be 600 :O

Tbh,with all of the stat buff you gave him playing him tankier would bring out much more of his kit. He could go top,buy item 3071 and item 3153 ,then just build tanky.
