Volibear Change/ Rework Ideas to update the outdated kit
Hey guys, first im not a Pro league player i dont have alot of time for playing to become super good, but still i enjoy playing the game. Volibear was always my most loved champion and i would love to see a change on him. He is not super weak and you can still rule games if he is played correctly, but personaly i think his kit feels outdated and boring. I think one of the worst parts of Volibear is that he can be kited very easily and if you kite him its to devastating for him. I have the feeling that because nearly every new champion and champion rework gets good mobility, its really hard to play a champion who is all about getting and staying close to the enemy. When i googled for rework ideas, i saw alot of people asking for one and giving ideas, i myself inspired by some of them got another idea. Maybe it helps to chenge his kit to be more interesting to play but keeps his roots.
I wanted to give him a kit which helps him to overcome his weakness but still has counter parts. Also there should be more going on with his thunder theme then just his ultimate ability. Probably the biggest change is that his ultimate ability has a bigger impact on his kit. It gives the kit the extra cc and decisions it needs to not feel boring and always the same.
I didn't changed the passive on my my main ideas but at the end of my suggestion i also have some ideas for a very different/ unique passive which changes quite alot and would be quite an oberhaul. Since i haven't thought about that super much i will just mention the ideas i have.
But first things first. I would suggest giving his Q ability a complete Change:
Q: Charging Leap Passive: He will be turned into the running stance he has when you currently activate the Q (running on 4 legs). When the passive is active he will get more and more movement speed the longer he keeps running (think about a big bear charging, who needs some time to build up speed, also bears wouldn't walk on 2 legs instead of using all for running). The bonus movement speed will get back to 0 whenever he auto attacks, gets slowed and his movement is stopped (by standing, being stunned, rooted, etc.). It also resets when he actives his Q or one of his other abilities. It will not be a super huge increase of movement speed at the maximum, its more for making him faster in general instead of just for some seconds.
Active: Jumps a short range (2-3 teemos length? ) on a small circled location (Maybe a little bit bigger then his boddy model size? ) to knock down all/ one enemy in that area for 0.5-1 sec. Since he is a fat bear its more like a leap then a jump, with the aim to pin down the enemy. I would suggest he cant jump over walls, because considering his weight it doesn't really make sense, but when i see Gragas dashing through a wall it would be nice if you could overpass the small walls with it...
W: Frenzy Basically still the old W its a really cool spell and everybody loves Volibear because of it. I saw someone suggesting to change it, so that with every one of the 3 auto attacks you get a small bonus of attack speed, not only with the last one. So basically it will increase from hit to hit until you have the full buff with the 3rd hit (for example fist hit 2% 2nd hit 4% 3rd hit 6%). It's not a bad idea, but maybe a bit to powerful, since it would be to easy. I like the idea that you have to work for the big damage you get.
E: Intimidatingly Roar I really like the minion/ monster fear ability of the old E but for attacking champions, especially later in the game, it feels a little bit to weak so i would change it on that part. It could be made into a aoe silence for champions instead of a slow, which is quite nice because there are really not alot of tanks with a silence, which gives him something other Champions don't have. Also i think it's pretty fair to have such a powerful spell on him since you put yourself in danger by going into close range with the enemy. Additionally it would still go well with your kit since the enemy cant escape that quickly and you would have a bigger impact in lategame fights.
R: Calling the Thunder Volibear roars into the air, which brings down a lightning strike that strikes and charges him with electric energy. So basically when he activates his Ultimate he goes into Thunder mode, which gives every ability additional effects for that time. I want to make his ultimate a more essential part of his kit, when activated he has the chance to overcome some of his weaknesses for that time, but overall the enemy can still play around that.
Q: His legs will be charged with electricity so when running he always has the maximum movement speed bonus from the Q passive, even if the ability is on cooldown. The bonus movement speed will only reset to 0 (for that time being) when he gets slowed or his movement is stopped (by standing, being stunned, rooted, etc.).
W: His attacks direct the electricity from his body to his arms so that his auto attacks spread electric charges which bounces to up to 6 other enemies. (Old ultimate maybe not as strong damage wise)
E: His Roar sents a big electric charge through the ground into the bodys of your enemies, which immobilizes every enemy in the radius for some seconds (0,5?).
So now we come to the passive ideas i habe in mind.
- making the thunder theme his passive ability so he has to charge up by fighting, killing or attacking. He will have like a thunder bar instead of mana. Maybe every 6. hit will charge your next ability with thunder which has a different or additional effect. Or for every kill he gets the thunder inside rises and empowers his abilities. Or its like a rage bar while fighting it grows and if it reaches the maximum all his spells are empowered by thunder.
- Another Idea i have would give Volibear 2 stances like Elise Ultimate. The running stance where he has the knock down/flip (Q), the speed (W), and the Roar (E). And the fighting stance where he has the Bite (Q), the thunder claw buff (W) and maybe something like a shield (E). But here its different from Elise since when running Volibear goes into the running stance and while fighting he changes to the fighting one. The Ultimate could also be something like a thunder empower for his abilities.
