Nocturne Backstory

I have a backstory for Nocturne that I feel could really create an opening for more possibilities. I actually just came up with this when a friend wanted me to tell them a story. I was playing Nocturne and had an idea. I main Nocturne and I love the dude, his personality, his ferociousness, everything about him is just- I wanna fucking kill you. But I think it would make it interesting if people knew, he wasn't always like that. This is what I came up with.

He started as a boy, much like any other boy, he wanted to make a name for himself. This was in a land long ago, (possibly even before Mordekaiser and the first lives of the Shadow Isles, Kalista, Hecaruim etc.) where it was not uncommon for people to look to other sources for a little extra boost of power, or knowledge, or something to give them a leg up. Nocturne was one of these boys who looked for that leg up, since he was not particularly strong, nor smart, he was quite average. However, he thirsted for a great name and the princess of the land. He heard of an alchemist who brewed a powerful tonic, one that could give a man immeasurable power, if he survived. Since Nocturne was not sure if he'd survive partaking of that tonic now, he searched for other powers first. He started in the shadow realm, mastering the basics and a little more, he then joined a ban of mercenaries who taught him how to fight. He somehow made it to the royal guard for some time where he was able to bond with the princess. He promised her a greater man as he set out at last to find the alchemist.

After several years he found the man and asked for the tonic. The alchemist demanded a price but instead of a valuable Nocturne already had, he asked for Nocturne to travel and pick a certain flower. Nocturne accepted and ordered the man wait for his return. Over the next two years time Nocturne made his travels and found the flower, at the top of a tall mountain, then descended and found the alchemist again. When Nocturne presented the flower to the man the man revealed that Nocturne just picked the Soul Eater. A flower that would suck the Soul out of anyone who would try to pick it for it's power. The man demanded the flower and thinking he was safe, took it from Nocturne, the flower then took his soul and dropped to the floor. Nocturne, realizing the man hadn't revealed to him the location nor the ingredients for the tonic, realized he was cheated. So he took up the flower and began to search anew.

Over the next year he searched for the most powerful ingredients to make his own tonic. The main ingredient, however, was the flower. Careful to not touch the flower directly Nocturne brewed the tonic then added the flower as a final ingredient. However, the flower would not burn or dissolve into the brew. He had an idea. He would ask people to help with his home then lure them to the brewing room and push them into the pot, where upon touching the flower, their soul would be taken then their body would dissolve. He did this for many more years then finally, he got a feeling it was time. As he began to ladle the brew into a separate flask, he put the flower inside it as well. He lifted the flask to his lips to drink and swallowed it all.

Suddenly, he convulsed and an immense pain erupted through him then all that was left, was darkness. Are you my nightmare, or am I... yours? Nocturne awakens with a start and looks around. Only darkness and no sign as to the source of the voice. After what felt like the better part of an hour, an image began to appear around him. He realized he was standing in a flower field, which disgusted him for some reason, then laughter and he turned and looked and saw a man and a child skipping through it. Irritated at their glee he goes to them to confront them. They see him as the entire scene begins to go dark, black and shades of grey replaced the bright scenery. Their mouths open in fear then in an attempt to slap it off them he discovers instead, they're heads to be flying off and on his arms large blades. Umbra Blades a voice says to him. Nocturne grins as he feels the power granted to him.

For the next several years he traveled the dream world reaping them into nightmares as he grew in power. Then one dream he felt power in it, not just a simple wish of more, but the dreamer had actual power, the first summoners dream...
