Champion Concepts: Crixus and Nail

Here goes first post on the forums i think... I think. Either way, so I've been muddling over some hero designs for a long while now, and at this point it seemed fun to post them here and get feedback/further build them. I feel like I got in a nice direction/niche for both the heroes, but I definitely need outside perspective and input. Concepts, directions, spell changes, lore changes, or even design changes. Case is I wanted to do SOME COLLABORATIN' to make these far more solid Concepts/designs. http://i.imgur.com/VUK8xw2.jpg Crixus, the ???????? So Crixus was pretty much me wanting to expand on the Marai, pointedly making a warriortype creature. The basis of her was to be duely/initiate bruiser. Primarily single-target damage, the main shtick was to obstruct a teamfight and murder the heck out of a core target, though by the end of building her I felt she didnt feel FISH-WARRIOR enough. I'll post what I got in any case: http://i.imgur.com/TC4OsG2.jpg http://i.imgur.com/a6h8B82.jpg Passive/Innate: ??? Crixus' attacks and spells do not interrupt movement. Duel: Champions and Large monsters hit with Crixus' damaging abilities are then marked with Duel. -Can only be active on one champion at a time. http://i.imgur.com/YUXoMUo.jpg Q: Impale After a delay, Crixus throws her spear in a target direction, knocking back the first enemy champion it hits. If the target is knocked into terrain, they take the same damage again and are stunned. If Impale hits a target with duel, they take the bonus damage and stun whether or not they hit terrain. http://i.imgur.com/KZAPShB.jpg W: Marai Fervor Crixus breaks all hostile crowd control from herself and goes into a desperate frenzy, marking and gaining drastic bonus movement and attack speed against the owner of the broken spell. -Killing the dueled target while frenzied will heal her for a percentage of her missing health. http://i.imgur.com/nygcapo.jpg E: Gouge Crixus' next basic attack deals bonus damage and bleeds target over 3 seconds. Gouge's cooldown is reduced by 1 second for every basic attack. Attacks against dueled targets double the cooldown reduction. http://i.imgur.com/CwU2lwe.jpg R: Riptide Crixus charges in a direction, damaging and slowing all targets she travels through.

  • Any dueled target is also dragged with her.

http://i.imgur.com/nJpCgE5.jpg Nail, the ????????? Nail was part of a project, kinda a little question a friend and I were musing over: "There are no dedicated Noxian supports, and with how Noxians are, its kinda obvious why. How could one make a Noxian champion thats focusedly support and still decidedly Noxian/plays like a Noxian?" She was my second attempt. The main theme for her was escape-artist and abducter. I wanted her to be a transient/slippery hero with a good bit of obstruction to teamfights. http://i.imgur.com/ZzKp8Z9.jpg http://66.media.tumblr.com/3d1bee19ff95441ce748186a8bb66ba2/tumblr_nzqct4X88m1uumr7io2_400.jpg Passive/Innate: Loose Tether Nail gains movement speed for each spectral bolt missing, stacking up to 40/60/80% If there are no bolts stored, Nail ignores unit collision. http://i.imgur.com/EQGs06w.jpg Q: Impetus After a brief delay, Nail tethers herself and all bolts within a selected area. Once tethered bolts last for 2 seconds. (The width of the area enlarges by level) -If an enemy champion is tethered to Nail, both Nail and the enemy suffer reduced speeds respective of their enemies movement speed. Whichever has greater can drag the opponent by the tether. -If an enemy champion is thethered to a bolt within terrain, they suffer slows respective to nails movement speed. -Nail cannot tether to a bolt that isn't lodged to an enemy champion, nor can she tether to multiple enemy champions, prioritizing slower champions in the area. http://i.imgur.com/heB91z5.jpg W: Unlikely Escape Nail tears herself from the physical realm, becoming stealthed and travels in a chosen direction, ignoring terrain collision. She fades out of stealth for 1.5 seconds upon reaching her destination. -While in spectral form Nail cannot attack or cast spells normally. Instead her abilities are queued and will be casted immediately once she has reached her location. -Unlikely Escape will remove all tethers active prior to activation. http://i.imgur.com/3b34jjF.jpg E: Spectral Bolts Nail passively obtains charges of Spectral bolts (up to four)

  • Active: Nail hurls a bolt in a line, dealing magic damage to all units it passes through and lodging itself in the target area or within the first enemy champion hit. Spectral bolts will persist inside their targets for 5 seconds. http://i.imgur.com/S43JsZd.jpg R: Nail's Ultimatum Nail summons bolts up from the ground around her, damaging and stunning all enemies caught within the area. (Levels upgrade the aoe to cone/half-circle/fullcircle)

Ah yea! Heres an illustration of Nail. Sadly I've yet to do one for Crixus, but right now Nail is def the more developed of the two. http://67.media.tumblr.com/f06d721961d6b8f33219a1150e26e5e8/tumblr_nzh1qspzI71qck46no1_r1_1280.png

SO YEA! I wrote a little character bio for both of them, I may post that later, for now I'm just going to keep just the kits up. Would like to ramble about this stuff, things like maybe different spell ideas or subjects of build ideas. Hell fleshing it out to the point of actually putting in number-stats and damage/costs....blabla, all this sounds lovely. I will be posting drawings and further concepts as things go forward, alongside updating and PATCHING EVERYTHING. Thanks again for checking this out. hopefully we can build a pretty interesting duo of creatures.

I'll be honest, Crixus makes no sense whatsoever. Her bleed has no reason to be in her kit, her W seems cool but has a massive lack of counterplay, her 'can't be kited' passive is extremely boring and her kit doesn't feflect it well enough, her impale is a bad copy paste clone of condemn, her second passive is all too similar to Xin's passive, and her ultimate is more plain than Aurelions. Good art though.

Nail on the other hand seems to have some decent potential. I like the concept, but she definitely needs a lot of refining. Her W should undoubtedly have at least some interaction with her kit, her passive seems obscenely overpowered (unless her base movement speed is around 200), and her ultimate is also extremely boring. I love the theme of a noxian support centered around a support, though.

I'd write in more detail but I have little time atm.

Would you be interested in joining a group of individuals working together to create a moba? One of our members saw your artwork for the abilities and suggested we ask you to join and we all agreed because we like your designs( I especially like the splashart for Nail :P). At this current point in time, we all work on the project in our free time, and are not getting paid, but we are generally very friendly people, and we would like to work with you. WE all realize that people have lives, so we work on a "Commit as much as you want" type policy, however if you do like more structure, we have weekly meetings, and assign weekly goals for those who are able to commit a few hours each week. Usually our meetings are about 1 hour long on Tuesdays at 8:30 EST, and they are conducted over a skype phone call, we also work on concepts through Unity and Google Docs if you were wondering on our mode of work. If you are to join and choose to be an artist, we do not mind your art median, as long as you can either convert it to a file we can use or scan it into your computer as a file we can use. Remember your artwork is your artwork, and even if you allow us to use your art, we will credit you as well as we can. -DrPapillon

If interested, you can contact me, at my skype: dr_papillon (it should show up with a cute picture of a donkey) I look forward to hearing your response, have a great evening.

Maybe it could be Crixus: The Myrmidon.

first off... love the artwork! :-p

Crixus P not having to orb walk to be able to attack without some kind of drawback seems like it would be annoyingly sticky to try to get away from. Q is more or less Vayne's condemn with a sure stun if you had damaged them before. If Crixus is melee, this seems counter intuitive, knocking enemies out of her range and all would make it harder to engage a target. W I feel like its an upgraded Evelynn W (with the increased AS) which is fine, but i feel like it needs a condition. Something like that it can only be activated if you are slow or rooted. the heal on kill is fine, but i feel its a bit assassin-ish, and the idea of heal on % of damage dealt while frenzy, or against targets debuffed with duel seems more bruiser to me. E sounds pretty solid. Only thing I can think of saying about it is that depending on the bleed damage, 3 seconds may feel a bit short for a DoT and it may just feel like hidden burst damage if the ticks are really high. R feels lackluster to me for a ult, it reminds me of a conditional Poppy charge without the conditional stun at the end. if it has to low of a CD you would just push people around and it may feel a bit unfair, but if its to high of a CD it may not give the feel like a play changing ult, if an ult at all. Also positioning would be a funny thing, making flash feel required to pull off an ult during team fights. I like this idea of an ability, but doesnt feel Ulty to me.

Nail Doesnt seem like a support but a kiting control mage, causing slows to enemies and gaining speed boosts. no heals, shields, buffs, or hard CC save the ult which feels like a slow and less mobile Malphite ult that needs W or Flash. I like the concept but it doesnt seem like it would work in its intended role.

Hey, I think I've seen this art on Tumblr somewhere! You wouldn't happen to be the artist on that blog would you?

First of all I have to say that your art looks really good :)

However while I love the design of Crixus I have to say that she looks waaaaaay too similar to Nami. I mean she basically looks like Nami with a different face, slightly different headgear(though said headgear still has the same color) and a spear instead of a staff. Sure she is a marai like nami, but that doesn't have to mean that her scales are the same color and that she wears similar headgear.

Another point that I'd be worried about would be the character archetype. Pretty much every character has an archetype that is unique to him/her and in Namis case it pretty much boils down to "she is the only mermaid in the game" and "she is the water mage of the game" Crixus would run into the problem that her mermaid-body isn't unique to the game and I have to say that "fish-warrior" might not be enough of an archetype to help her stand out enough, especially since we also have fizz, who is a fishman with a spear as well.(though thats just my personal opinion). This could be solved in several ways: 1.You could basically change her "class". This is basically the reason why we have so many humans and yordles, because their race doesn't matter for their character archetype and instead they are defined by what they do. For example if Crixus was a gladiator(just as an example) then she'd stand out because we simply don't have any other gladiator in the game, while Nami would still be unique as the only water mage of the game.

2.Play a bit more around with her race. We barely have any info on the marai,so you have quite some space to play around with the species. You could simply incorporate elements of different sea creatures into her design that the "mermaid"-part of her character would essentially vanish and be replaced by something else. For example if she had the lower body of an octopus or if she was extremely shark-like.

3.Well last but not least turning her male could actually make her stand out a bit as well simply because mermen and mermaids are associated with entirely different things, though this one is debateable....

Haven't read at Nail so far, maybe I'll do it later.
