[Champion Concept] Ira, the Puppet Spirit
Hey, so I have an idea for a new champion called Ira (EE-rah), the Puppet Spirit. I've broken this idea down into four parts:
- Part I: Lore
- Part II: Role/Abilities
- Part III: Appearance
- Part IV: Concluding Notes
Also, one other note, there are a few uses of different text for some things:
- Bold indicates a header for more text (i.e. Part I: <x>)
- Italics indicates something that is repeated and/or if an ability is passive or active (i.e. Active: <x>
Strikethroughindicates the range, mana cost, and cooldown of an ability (i.e.Cooldown: <x>)
Part I: Lore -
Ira is a puppet, possessed by the spirit of a child whose life ended all too soon. She wanders Valoran, killing all in her path, taking their souls and making them into threads to keep the puppet moving.
Ira was once a normal puppet, belonging to a young girl by the name of Mary. Mary and her parents were from Demacia, and they were part of the Demacian government, so in turn they were very wealthy and could get whatever they wanted. So when Mary was four, she asked for a puppet made especially for her to be her friends, and her parents happily obliged. They found the finest toymaker in Demacia and had him make the puppet exactly as Mary described it. The puppet had long, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, lightly tanned skin, and a beautiful red dress. White threads were attached to each limb of the puppet, so she could be moved around freely. And in the pocket of the dress, there was a small metal needle, in case she ever needed repair. Upon receiving the puppet, Mary named it Ira and quickly fell in love with it. She would brush Ira's hair every day and make sure she was clean. Everywhere Mary went, Ira would follow. Many times Mary would talk to Ira while moving Ira's threads to make her speak, and they'd have a pretend conversation. Eventually, Mary sewed the name Ira onto her new friend's side. For over a year Mary and Ira were inseparable. But one day, Ira's parents left to go to Piltover for a diplomatic meeting between the two city-states. They left Mary with one of the palace guards and left. Unfortunately, a gruesome horror was approaching fast. The Harrowing was nigh, and numerous reports told of spirits murdering people all over Valoran, led by a terrible half-man, half-horse known as Hecarim. Most thought that Demacia would never be attacked, so when Hecarim and a mass of malevolent spirits appeared at the gates of Demacia, chaos quickly ensued. The guards attempted to stop them, but their wood-and-metal weapons were no match for the horrors of the Shadow Isles. Hecarim charged through the gates and went onward. Soon enough, he came across Mary and the guard beside her. With a quick jab, Hecarim impaled the guard. Then he turned onto Mary, who was holding Ira and crying below him. With one swing, he killed her instantly. Ira fell out of her hands to the ground. After a moment, Hecarim continued forward, leaving the corpse and the puppet behind. The ground where Hecarim had tread began to deteriorate, and because Ira was now on the ground, she too deteriorated. Her hair turned black and fell off in patches, her eyes turned white and glowed eerily, and her dress fell apart, becoming little more than rags. The threads turned grey and rotted away. The needle in the dress pocket fell out and rusted, leaving it with a jagged edge. Even Ira's body began to fall apart, turning grey and breaking apart as many of the stitches that kept her together fell apart. In just a few moments, Mary was dead and Ira was in ruins.
This wasn't the end for Mary, however. Because she was killed by a denizen of the Shadow Isles, her spirit was ripped from her body. Upon becoming a spirit, Mary had no memory, just an unyielding anger. But rather than becoming a roaming, hate-filled spirit, instead she turned to the puppet and former friend next to her. She possessed the puppet, grabbing the rotten threads and making the puppet human-sized. She looked down at her side, where the stitched name still remained. With nothing else in mind, she took on her puppet's name and became Ira, the Puppet Spirit. Grabbing the rusted needle as her weapon, Ira left Demacia and went out into Valoran, searching for an answer to her rage and hatred. For years, she wandered, killing all in her path and taking their souls. Ira used these souls to make herself new threads, so she could continue onward. Yet there was another use for the spirits, one Ira was unaware of. As she collected spirits, she slowly began to regain memories, bit by bit. Finally, after taking thousands of souls, she remembered the creature who struck her down: Hecarim. Swearing vengeance on Hecarim, she has now turned towards the Shadow Isles. There, she hopes to avenge her untimely death and release herself from the anger and loathing in her heart.
"Life is but a thread, waiting to snap at any moment."
Part II: Role/Abilities -
Ira is an AP fighter, well-suited to top lane. Using her passive with the rest of her abilities, she can effectively duel and outdamage many other fighters.
Passive - Soul Thread When Ira uses a basic attack on an enemy Champion, she applies a Thread to the target. Threads last for 3 seconds but can be renewed by further basic attacks from Ira. Ira can apply Threads to multiple enemy Champions. All of Ira's non-ultimate abilities can interact with Threads, consuming them to gain a bonus to the chosen ability. If a Thread on an enemy Champion is consumed or wears off, the target becomes immune to receiving Threads for 12 seconds.
Q - Piercing Retribution
Active - Ira attaches her needle to a string and throws it out in a target direction, dealing 60/85/110/135/160 (+50% AP) magic damage to all enemy units hit and slowing them by 30% for 2 seconds. If an enemy Champion with a Thread on them is hit by this ability, than the Thread is consumed, making this ability deal 80/105/130/155/180 (+50% AP) magic damage to the target enemy Champion, slow for the same amount, and the needle stop and impale the target enemy Champion for 2 seconds. During this time, Ira can choose to recast this ability to pull the target enemy Champion closer to her (the number of units that the target is pulled closer to Ira is 1/2 the number of units the needle traveled before hitting the target enemy Champion). The target enemy Champion must be within 1000 units for Ira to recast this ability.
JUST A CLARIFYING NOTE: If the needle hits an enemy Champion without a Thread on them, they will take normal damage and the needle will continue forward until it hits an enemy Champion with a Thread or reaches maximum range.
Cooldown: 9/8/7/6/5 seconds
Mana Cost: 50/55/60/65/70 Mana
Range: 700 units, skillshot
W - Cursed Stitches Passive - Ira's stitches are cursed by the Shadow Isles, giving her 10% of her AP as bonus Armor and Magic Resist (50% of it becomes bonus Armor, the other 50% becomes bonus Magic Resist).
Active - Ira releases the stitches inside of her to deal 30/45/60/75/90 (+20% AP) magic damage per second to all nearby enemy units for 4 seconds. If an enemy Champion with a Thread on them is hit by this ability, than the Thread is consumed, making them deal 2%/4%/6%/8%/10& less damage to Ira for 2 seconds (true damage is not affected by this). While this ability is on cooldown, the passive is lost.
Cooldown: 19/18/17/16/15 seconds
Mana Cost: 65/75/85/95/105 Mana
Range: 350 units, circle around Ira, looks similar to Morde's W
E - Bounded Flesh
Active - Ira summons a string beneath a target enemy Champion, dealing 40/75/110/145/180 (+40% AP) to the target. and slowing them by 20% for 1.5 seconds. If an enemy Champion with a Thread on them is hit by this ability, than the Thread is consumed, making this ability deal 50/85/120/155/190 (+40% AP) and root the target instead. If Ira hits a target that has been rooted by this ability with Piercing Retribution, then the Cooldown of this ability is decreased by 50%.
Cooldown: 17/16/15/14/13 seconds
Mana Cost: 70/75/80/85/90 Mana
Range: 350 units, point-and-click
R - The Puppet's Vengeance
Active - Ira channels for 1.5 seconds (channel can be broken by any Crowd Control or damage, placing it on a 10 second Cooldown but not refunding Mana) and deals 200/250/300 (+30% AP) (+6/8/10% of the target's maximum health) magic damage to the target, as well as attach Strings to the target for 8 seconds. An enemy Champion with Strings attached to them will take 10% increased damage from Ira. If the target dies while the Strings attached to them, then a Puppet will spawn where they died. This Puppet takes on the shape of the killed Champion, but it is dark black and held up by strings. This Puppet can be controlled by Ira, but cannot attack. However, upon dying or after 10 seconds of being under Ira's control, the Puppet will burst, dealing 50% of the damage that this ability initially did in a 350-unit circle and attaching strings to all enemy Champions hit.
Cooldown: 100/85/70 seconds
Mana Cost: 100 Mana
Range: 500 units, point-and-click
Part III: Appearance -
Ira appears as a grey human-sized puppet. Her hair is black and several parts of her scalp are showing, her eyes are glowing white, and she is wearing a tattered dress. Several parts of the puppet's body are torn, kept together by stitches. Four strings are attached to her limbs and are suspended in air, moving as Ira does. In her left hand, she holds a rusted needle. When using Piercing Retribution, Ira throws out the rusted needle which impales enemies and if she hits a target enemy Champion with a thread, the needle is violently yanked out as the target is dragged back. When using Cursed Stitches, Ira raises her arms upwards and a circle of floating bits of metal float around her (similar to
's W). When using Bounded Flesh, a thick tendril rises from the ground below the target and wraps around their lower body. When using The Puppet's Vengeance, Ira raises her right arm, and four strings come outward. They hover above the targeted enemy Champion for the duration. If Ira kills the target, then she gets a Puppet, that is described above.
Part IV: Concluding Notes -
Overall, I think Ira has a lot of potential as a champion. There are still many things that need to be worked on (in-game quotes, stats, etc.), and some of these abilities may need work, but I still think she has potential. If you have any questions, comments, and/or suggestions, please leave them in the comments below. Oh, and one other quick side note: if there are any artists out there who like this idea, some concept drawings by you guys would be amazing and I would really appreciate them. Thanks for reading, and GLHF on the Rift!
