[Champion Concept] The Yordle Idol
First off, Hi! Welcome to this post! I have quite a few ideas for each skill slot so this is more of a brainstorm of concepts rather than a full blown detailed character sheet. Instead of doing any number crunches or anything like that I will simply be describing some of the abilities I think would be cool for each slot and hopefully you’ll like a few of them, but first lets answer some basic questions you may have on the concept
Why a Yordle? Why an Idol of all things?! Yordles are few in number in league and another female one is due Rito…truthfully though it’s because of their culture and their modern-ish technology and unusually high rate of insecurities due to their outcast like nature (as stated in Tahm Kench’s trivia that I read on lol wiki because I’m too lazy to find out where exactly it says that otherwise) makes them most likely to already have someone like this in their city to begin with. Unlike other communities such as Demacia or Noxus who have specific leaders that the people look up to and get inspired by (Garen, Darius, Karma, Ashe/Sej ect.), there is currently no one like that standing for Bandle City’s Yordles. For a group of creatures constantly struggling with their native insecurities, it would make sense to have a figure that doesn’t look to inspire them like Garen, strengthen them like Darius, or guide them like Karma, but instead, an idol that focuses on entertaining and getting them to forget about their problems for even just a song or two.
What’s her name? Don’t know, I’ll be referring to her as simply Idol for the sake of this post.
Why another supportle!? Truth be told, I wanted to make her a mid assassin with synergy from a jungler but the more I tinkered around with the concepts of her kit the more she leaned towards the support role. If you can rework her kit to keep the same basic theme of “Entertaining Idol” and somehow gear it towards another role, please feel free to leave some suggestions.
Ranged or Melee? Either or. She can throw her mike if you want her to be ranged or she can attack with dance moves if you want melee. I’m flexible…and so is she.
Now that that’s all out of the way, let’s take a look at the meat and potatoes of this brainstorm starting with some potential passives.
Passives:
Stage Prop: Enemies struck by basic attacks or abilities within a certain range around Idol will be marked as a stage prop and causes her abilities to have additional effects on them. If Idol is moving towards a stage prop, she gains movement speed. (A pretty basic set up passive that helps her get in range to do what she does…whatever that ends up being XD)
Stage Prep: All allied units on the map (this includes things like heimer turrets, wards and the like) are all stages that Idol can interact with using her abilities. (I made an ally version of the ability above. No enemy interaction but being limited to an allied unit makes it so that you can have the added affects of her other abilities even more powerful since it is a more situational concept. Also, it promotes warding so, yay)
Synergy: After an attack lands on an enemy unit, bonus damage will be applied if that unit is hit by a different allied champion. This effect can stack up to XX times. (A support centric ability that I’m surprised no champ has yet. Anyways it plays up the teamwork aspect and working together is what a duo does)
Spotlight: Enemies champions struck by Idol’s abilities have a spotlight placed on them, revealing them and causing all allies to have increased movement speed when moving towards them. (It’s basic, useful, and to the point. May not be the flashiest of the passives but hey, at least you can’t muck it up!)
As you can probably tell I like making passives that changes the rest of her kit’s abilities or provide set up for her other abilities, or both…I like both. Both are good. Let’s move on to the Q abilities. Q is usually the shortest cooldown and the skill that is pretty much your go to ability for harass and CSing. Here are some Qs that will make the opponents QQ.
Q Mike Check: Idol throws her microphone, revealing and slowing enemies struck. (As basic as basic can get. Kind of boring but if you pick one of the set up passives, it’s a quick and easy way to get a set up going.)
Bring the Noise: Idol shouts into the mike, silencing all foes around her. (Yep another basic one, I swear these abilities get more interesting as we go further but Qs are usually meant to be easy to begin with so… this one is for fulfilling a disruption support role)
Attention!: Idol yells, getting the attention of everyone around her and taunting them. (Basically Rammus with like 90 percent less okay…okay?)
Okay so the Qs were a little standard…but not everyone can have a crescent strike. W is more or less reserved for buffs, heals, and all kinds of unique status affecting skills. Will I come up with more interesting skills for W? (I wouldn’t bet on it. ~)
W Stage Presence: While Idol is on a stage, she begins to perform a bit, causing the ally stage she is on to become an actual small stage in the eyes of the enemy and she takes reduced damage that the stage would have taken for a short duration. (A little complex, but allow explain. When she begins, the ally she is on take the appearance of a stage, making it hard for the enemy to see whom she is currently standing on and what their current status is. Makes for gr8 b8 m8 moments. As for how she gets on a "stage", that's for a later skill)
Cheer!: Heals a selected ally and increases their damage for a time. If performed from a stage, heal all allies within an area, increases damage, and bonus movement speed when running towards Idol. (Sustaining others is a support kinda thing right? Right! So there ya go.)
Sing!: Idol begins channeling a song that increases health regen for its duration. If performed on a stage the effects are doubled. (Messing with health regen here this makes a siege a breeze with heimer or azir to provide the stage for ya.)
Sing!Again!: Same as before but replace health regen with generic stat buffs, speaking of doing something again.
Encore: Idol performs an encore of the ability she used before at half effectiveness. (This would make for a great ulti…oh wait we have a magician who does that. Nevermind.)
Honestly there are so many generic Buff/weaken abilities you can stuff here it is kind of insane. Moving right along, you the E ability. This is usually a gap closer of some sort or a kind of unique displacement. Our nominees for best E are…
E: Dynamic Entry: Idol jumps to a targeted location. If Idol jumps onto an enemy unit, she bounces off and slows them. If she jumps onto a stage she will stand on top of the stage for XX amount of seconds dealing damage and stunning the target (if enemy, duh) or granting buffs (if ally, double duh). Jumping onto a stage makes her untargetable/takes reduced damage while her stage becomes untargetable and resets the cooldown. (Basically she turns into Super idol bros. if she manages to mark multiple targets. This will presumably be somewhat balanced by a decent mana cost on her ability, making multi jumps very expensive. The divide at who goes untargetable is up to you all on which is better. Personally I see her as a disruption support similar to Alistar but not as tanky so she would need some way to survive and do what she does, so I vote for her being untargetable. Either way, I would assume it would be super fun though!)
1!2!3!: Idol jumps a short distance three times to a targeted location dealing increased damage as she lands. (three gap closers may seem insane cough Akali cough but remember she is a support so she won’t be deleting anyone with said gap closers) Power Slide: Idol slides on her knees in a straight line, knocking aside all enemies in her path and slowing them. (Not gonna lie, was watching a match of Marvel vs Capcom 3 and saw dante do his version and thought “Yep I totally wanna do that in league” I don’t know why so don’t ask me.)
Amazing Entry: Idol leaps onto an enemy and bounces off of them, she will land on the closest stage to her, prioritizing allied champs. (If you went with the more defensive stage passive then this ability works well with that…I think).
Alright the Es really did give her kit some much needed flair. Now it’s time for the main skill itself. This is the ultimate…erm …Ultimate? Sigh*
Ultimate: The Grand Finale (Seriously though, what else would I call it?) While on a stage Idol performs a song, CCing all enemies around her and granting all allies around her bonus magic pen and Armor pen. (Confused by the magic and armor pen? Well if you’re looking at a performance and not worrying about the people coming to force you to make sweet love to the business end of a pokey/fire stick...it goes without saying that your guard was down a bit. You can replace this with simply reducing the armor and MR of all those affected for streamlining it)
Mesmerizing Performance (hey another name…and it sucks): Idol begins to sing, creating a tether of attention between her and all enemy champions around her. While tethered all damage these units deal is reduced and if they stay tethered for the duration of the song, (you probably guessed it) they’ll be [insert CC here]. (Slightly different take on the Morg ulti without the slow, but Idol will presumably be more agile than morg so no biggy)
And pretty much, there you have it. Some thoughts and kit ideas I had for a yordle idol. I would appreciate any feedback you guys have to give me and post up your idea for what her kit would be like.
