A fan continuation of The Lure

Vassur left Kayn alone in his room a few minutes ago. The Ordinal was now pacing the small chamber panicking at what he had done moments after the captain's departure. Kayn looked at Keelo, his old friend and fightmek who was now in pieces, the scythe on the ground next to him. Kayn looked at his hands and clenched them into fists. He took a deep breath, clearing his mind. When Keelo had surprised him, the scythe immediately wound up in Kayn's hand and Kayn just killed him immediately. It wasn't like Kayn. He had dropped the scythe almost immediately, that thirst for death recoiling back inside Kayn. Ever since he had been pacing inside his room trying to figure out what to do.

Could you at least pick me up off the ground?

Kayn whirled around facing the scythe. Looking at that eye at the base of the blade. It was frowning at him! “What the hell?” Kayn backed away, his single eye widening in shock.

***Ground. Pick me up off it. I don't want to get dirty and as I don't have legs nor arms… ***

Kayn swallowed before hesitantly approaching the scythe and picking it up. Kayn and the scythe looked at each other. The whisper that Kayn had heard on Ionan back where he picked up the scythe came back. “Rhaast,” Kayn said. “That's your name, isn't it?”

If I could nod, then I would.

“Back on Ionan, you said you would stop calling once someone was worthy of you,” Kayn repeated what the scythe had said before madness had ensued on Ionan. Kayn still felt guilty about Nakuri. A close friend of his… Gone.

I stopped calling because someone worthy found me.

“I'm worthy?” Kayn asked.

***You're the only one to have picked me up without losing your sanity. ***

“But why? What are you going to do?”

***I am yours to wield. You have ambitions and dreams. You have a certain way of thinking. A way that I like. Though, your haircut is awful. ***

Kayn frowned and ran a hand through his blue hair. “It's the dress code of nobility.”

Ah, so all nobles will look just as stupid. Excellent.

Kayn rolled his eye. “Definitely not what I expected from a scythe.” Kayn walked over to the window before putting the scythe down against the wall. “I hope you're not going to complain about being against a wall.”

I'm fine like this.

Kayn snorted before walking over to Keelo's parts. The Ordinal sighed. “Keelo…” Keelo was a good friend of Kayn's and had taught him many things.

Why do you mourn for him? He tried to attack you. You defended yourself.

“Yes, but… I didn't mean to…” Kayn paused and then glared at the scythe. “Your calling caused my friend and his squad to go insane to the point where I had to kill my friend. Did you do something to make me kill Keelo too?” The eye inside the scythe rolled.

I did nothing. They were your choices. Choices that made you worthy.

“Worthy of what?” Kayn half shouted. “My friends are dead because of you.”

***They are dead because you are worthy… of my power. I can help you with your dreams and ambitions. That's what you are worthy of. ***

Kayn clenched his fists, wanting to throw the scythe back down to Ionan.

***No you don't. ***

Kayn's eye widened. “So you can read my mind now?” Kayn growled.

***You let me in once you picked me up. Hence why I know dreams and ambitions. You want to be emperor. ***

Kayn froze. A deep thought that he never really let surface. He did want to be emperor if only because Jarvan did nothing for the empire and kept growing weaker and weaker as the days went by. Jarvan was letting the imperial council control everything and letting so many illegal activities happen right under his nose. It irked Kayn. He had proposed several ways to keep Ora within the empire but all of his ideas were too aggressive for the weak Jarvan.

***I don't think they're too aggressive. In fact, I think they would work wonderfully. ***

Kayn looked at the scythe. The golden ball at the base of the scythe. “What are you?” Kayn asked.

***All the Ora you could want. ***

“Impossible,” Kayn replied, stalking towards the blade.

***Is a talking scythe so impossible? You see the Ora within. You know. ***

Kayn reached a hand out towards that golden ball. The ball flowed out of the scythe and into Kayn's hand. A rush of power tickled Kayn's nerves, sending shivers all across his body. He examined the golden ball - the Ora - which he held in his hand.

***It is yours to command. ***

With the power of Ora at his fingertips…

***You could become what you so desperately want to be. You could fix this empire. You could and you will. You have the strength of will to do so. ***

“I… I was worthy of this. This… power,” Kayn whispered.

***Yes. ***

Kayn smiled softly as his other hand poked the Ora floating a over his left hand. More shivers. Kayn gently put the Ora back into the scythe. “I think we're going to be good friends, you and I.”

***Of course. We shall do great things together. ***

Kayn smiled broadly. He turned towards Keelo and waved a hand, the fightmek's parts disappearing. Kayn then turned back towards his desk. It had been replaced in the time he was on Ionan after Keelo had destroyed it. The death of both Keelo and Nakuri still weighed heavily on Kayn, but if what Rhaast was saying was true… their sacrifices would not be in vain.

Kayn had has hands behind his back, his new weapon, Rhaast, floating behind him at an angle. The eye inside the scythe narrowed at the prisoners that were kneeling before Kayn and his captain, Vassur. The young girl with a hood and golden eyes merely stared up at Kayn, her eyes occasionally glancing at Rhaast. Sona. That was her name. The korobak next to her had given it away back on Ionan. She was the one Kayn knew had some secrets. He would find them out.

“Sona,” Kayn spoke, speaking her name. Her eyes shifted from Rhaast to Kayn. No one had bothered to ask about Kayn's new weapon. “Such a pretty name. Like a song.” Kayn smiled softly before crouching before her. “What were you looking for on Ionan? Why did those two Templars lead you to that planet?” Kayn looked at those wide, burning eyes and waited. She said nothing. Her eyes traveled back to Rhaast. Kayn turned his head and looked at the scythe, then back to Sona. “Do you like it? My new weapon.” Sona just kept staring at the scythe.

“Sona cannot say anything,” the korobak piped up. “She physically cannot.” Kayn turned his head to the alien.

“And why is that?” Kayn asked, his irritation growing.

“She's mute. She has no voice,” the korobak replied, sadness filling his voice.

Kayn rolled the words around in his head. Mute. No voice. He would not, could not, get information from Sona. She was useless, but at the same time, the most valuable of these prisoners.

***Rip into her mind. Surely you have something that can do that yes? ***

Kayn glanced over his shoulder at the scythe still floating behind him. The eye stared back at Kayn before the Ordinal sighed. I wish. He thought to himself.

***A shame really. We need her. ***

*I know, but there is nothing we can do if she is mute. *

***What of the others? ***

*They are useless as well. *

***You could ask them why they followed her. ***

Kayn smirked. *Such a clever tool. *

***Don't call me that. ***

Kayn chuckled before turning back to the korobak who seemed to be the leader next to Sona. “Alright, since Sona is so useless, why don't you tell me why you were following her. Answer, and I'll be inclined to spare you a great deal of pain.” The korobak's eyes looked towards Sona. Pain and grief filled his eyes as Sona looked at him and nodded. The korobak turned back to Kayn.

“Sona is a Templar. We were following her to that planet because there was something strange on that planet. Something dangerous. Sona wanted to destroy it before it could be claimed. Before it… Was released,” the korobak explained. “This object would pry open the Ora Gate and take life away from everything. Death, destruction, and ruin. On the way, there might have been some Ora we could have used to break the object.” As the korobak explained, Sona kept glancing at Rhaast, the scythe glancing back her.

Would you two stop with the staring contest? Kayn hissed inside his head, knowing Rhaast would hear.

***Keep her alive, the Templar. Whatever you do, keep her alive. ***

No promises. Kayn lifted his head up and offered a smile that didn't reach his eyes. “Thank you for your cooperation. How hard was that?” The korobak snarled. Kayn turned to Vassur. “See if you can squeeze anymore information from them. If you get anywhere, please let me know.” Vassur nodded. Kayn grabbed Rhaast from the air and strode out of the prison.

“Care to explain?” Kayn asked the scythe once he returned to his room. He had put the weapon against the wall again and was glaring at the eye. “Were you what they were looking for?”

***What if I was? ***

“Death, destruction, ruin, decay. What are you?” Kayn crossed his arms waiting for an answer.

***Your friend. ***

“You told me on Ionan that trust is essential foundation to any relationship so if you want to be my friend,” Kayn hissed the word, “then tell me what the hell you are and don't lie.” Kayn's right eye was smoldering with intensity.

***Yes. They were looking for me. Yes. They were going to at least try to destroy me. Yes. I may unleash a great and devastating power upon this world. That is up to you to make. ***

“But what are you?” Kayn asked, wanting specifics.

***The voice of Ora, and your guiding star. ***

Kayn straightened a bit.

***That is why I have so much power. I am Ora. Go ahead. Touch that power again. You control it. I am yours to wield because only you are worthy Kayn. Only you deserve this power. ***

Kayn stepped closer to the scythe, at that ball of Ora before reaching a hand towards the ball. The golden liquid found its way to Kayn's hand floating above.

***Do you know what the best thing about Ora is? ***

“What?” Kayn asked, still mesmerized by the golden liquid.

***The way it tastes. ***

Kayn frowned. “Ew, no it's not,” Kayn snorted. Rhaast chuckled.

***Try it. ***

“I am not going to taste Ora. That's just… Weird,” Kayn replied.

***You know that tingling feeling and shivers that goes down your spine? That's the power of Ora being near you. Just imagine what it could do mixing with your veins. ***

Kayn raised his eyebrow, studying the ball for a short second before lifting it up to his mouth and licking it. Kayn immediately spat the liquid out. Rhaast let out a loud roar and Kayn shoved the ball of Ora back into its place in the scythe. Kayn wiped his tongue as Rhaast continued to wheeze. “You lied to me!” Kayn hissed, his tongue stuck out.

***I didn't lie, I just… pranked you. ***

Kayn kicked the scythe's hilt and it fell to the ground. A grunt from the scythe made Kayn smile a bit.

***Such a childish way to act. ***

“That tasted terrible,” Kayn retorted. “I feel inclined to leave you on the ground.”

***Oh please don't. It did feel good at least, didn't it? You felt the power rush through you. ***

Kayn did admit he liked the severe tingling in his veins as the Ora entered his system.

***See? ***

“If you think I'm going to be drinking Ora just to have that power again, you're wrong,” Kayn replied, picking Rhaast up and putting him back against the wall.

***I once knew someone who loved to drink Ora. He would steal it from people straight from their bodies. ***

“People had Ora in their bodies?” Kayn asked.

***A long time ago, yes. It was like blood, but more magical. They had their blood, then the life force of magic: Ora. Ionan used to be home to those people. ***

“What happened to them?” Kayn asked.

***They disappeared. No one knows what happened to them. They all just vanished with no trace of their vast empire and extraordinare power. ***

“How does someone get Ora to mix with their blood? Does it make them more powerful?”

***Thinking of doing it yourself, Ordinal? ***

“I don't know. That's why I'm asking.”

***The ancient people of Ionan were born with it. Everyone had equal amount of Ora in their veins. Ora used to flow in the rivers and in their fountains. Ora was everywhere. Some legends say Ionan was the birthplace of Ora. ***

“Are they true?”

***I'm not sure. I… wasn't there at the time. ***

“How old are you?”

***Millenias old. Older than you could comprehend. ***

“Are you even from here?”

***No. ***

“Where did you come from?”

***You wouldn't be able to understand. ***

Kayn frowned at the scythe.

***I'm serious. It's not a… Nice place, needless to say. Where I come from is a place not for the faint-hearted. ***

Kayn rolled his eyes. “So, there is a way for Ora to be mixed into someone’s blood system but what then?” Kayn asked once more.

***If I knew, I might tell you, but I don’t know. All I know is that some people were born with it. Whether it’s possible now for Ora to enter the bloodstream of someone is beyond my knowledge. The people of Ionan were long gone before even I was created. ***

“Their history and knowledge gone with them then,” Kayn muttered at last.

***Indeed. What did you expect Kayn? Don’t you think the Templars would have figured that out by now that if there was a way to allow Ora into someone, they would have already done it? ***

Kayn thought about it a moment before perking up. “Sona! Surely she may know.”

***Getting her to talk is going to be impossible. Literally. ***

“I can figure out some ways to get her to talk.” Kayn was about to exit his room when the door opened and Captain Vassur entered.

“Sir, I’m sorry for interrupting, but we are under attack,” Vassur reported. Kayn frowned.

“Who is attacking?” The Ordinal growled. In the distant, through his doorway, Kayn could hear the alarms going off.

“We don’t know. It’s an unidentified ship. It doesn’t even have an entire crew.”

“Blow it up then,” Kayn replied, waving his hand idly.

“They took the prisoners, sir.” Kayn’s eye flared up and he growled at Vassur.

“Why was I not informed as soon as this happened, Captain?” Kayn hissed.

“They had already escaped by the time they were found, sir. We tried getting to them, but they made it back to their ship and started to fire at us while preparing to escape.” Vassur swallowed. “I came here as fast as I could, sir.” Kayn was about to bellow with rage and demote Vassur if it hadn’t been for the loud explosion that sounded. Kayn’s interface sparked to life as he assessed what happened.

“The inner hull has just been hit by a massive explosion,” Kayn reported. “Get your men down there now Vassur.”

“What of the attackers, sir?” Vassur asked quietly.

“I’ll deal with them,” Kayn hissed, clicking his interface off, and yanking Rhaast off the wall.

***Easy there. ***

“Shut up,” Kayn hissed. Vassur raised an eyebrow, but Kayn shot a look her way which had her scurrying away to find men to fix the inner hull.

Vassur was wrong about the small crew. There were several robots attacking the people on the Locus. Kayn wielded Rhaast with deadly precision, splitting robots in half or sometimes even into small slivers. Through the ship he ran, killing the robots meant to act as a distraction. Out of the window of the ship, he could see the attacking ship preparing for take-off. Kayn growled and hurried towards the docking bay where he would get a small, but fast ship and chase after that hunk of garbage. Kayn ran and ran, slicing and dicing robots as he went. Instead of going through the hallways to get to the docks, he phased straight through the walls. Rhaast was impressed.

Such a useful talent. How do you do that?

“I just do,” Kayn replied curtly, too focused on the task at hand. The scythe fell silent as Kayn continued on. His scythe was like an instrument in his hand. The way he wielded it brought a melody of death upon the ship. Power surged through his body as he spun and twirled around with the scythe, tearing apart robots. One large robot stood in his way. It would take some effort to down the robot, but with the power surging through Kayn’s hands, he launched into the robots body, the scythe hovering above the robot’s head. The robot looked up, his body frozen as it was being torn apart from the inside out. The robot let out a noise as Kayn burst out, bringing the scythe through the robot’s body. Kayn didn’t question the power as he saw a small camera on the ground with a flashing red light. Kayn picked up the camera, knowing it was recording.

“You took what is mine,” he hissed to whoever was watching on the other side. “I will find her and I will kill you all!” Kayn threw the camera on the ground.

Did you get the message across?

Kayn ignored Rhaast as he slowly looked out of the window. The attacking ship was rearing it engines. He was too late. He could barely make out the words on the side of the ship as it launched off.

The Morning Star.

Hi! I made this little story as a continuation of the Odyssey story that was created by Dan Abnett. I've been playing a lot of Kyan recently and just delved into his lore. I hadn't started playing League when Odyssey came out, but after I read the Odyssey story, I really wanted to continue the story and tie it with what we got to see in the Morning Star Recruitment video. I used quite a few voice lines that Kayn and Rhaast have with each other in the Odyssey skin to help me fuel some of the content along with placing some of my own headcanons. I enjoy writing and the lore for League is so awesome that I really wanted to write about and since Kayn is one of my favorite champions at the moment, I wanted to write about him. I hope you enjoy and thanks for taking some time for reading this!
