Really rude.

Now I love seeing people discuss art and the new splash arts. I am a big fan of art in general and drawing etc. But I think everyone has just about crossed the line editing all the new splash arts. These people work really hard making these splash arts and you are all defacing them and changing them. You are taking someones hard work and changing and shifting them. The way I see it, feel free to talk about splash arts all you want and what you think should be changed. But do not take the liberty of going in and changing someone else's work. That is completely rude.

Yeah, I mean I feel people are really ungrateful on this board. The splash arts are drawn by people who put some really work into it. And they did a fantastic job on it. But instead people just are overly critical of change and refuse to accept that the game needed a art upgrade. Which it got, but because it isn't to the exact specifications of what they wanted they decided to go insane and complain about it. The art team did some grade A work on the splashes and they really fit with the new style Riot is going with. Since all the artwork is finally becoming unified.

I was so close to making a post about this, too. It has been bothering me seeing all these posts complaining about the new splash arts. It's one thing to discuss what you do/ do not like about them- everyone is entitled to their opinion- but I feel like there is a lot of exaggeration involved. There are many people on the boards acting like the new splashes are complete abominations, saying things such as 'No... just no! Why?!' etc. One of the main splashes that people seem to find so disturbing is Ahri's Ahri . Let me just throw out there that I thought it was so gorgeous and encaptivating. It was actually one of my favorite of the 11 new splashes, although the rest were great as well. Coming on the boards and seeing so many people bothered by it actually shocked me a bit. After reading a few, I could see some points they were coming from, such as slight identity changes and such, but I can't help to feel that a lot of people are being dramatic.

Long story short, I think people should be free to express how the feel on things, such as these splash arts, but chose your words carefully, and be reasonable. Real people took time to draw these, and did a fantastic job nonetheless. You can bet if I was one of the artists that drew these, I would totally come on here to see the reaction of people to my work I am so proud of. And if I (being the said artist) people reacting in such a revolted manner, I would be deeply hurt. Let's think about the way we express our feelings, people. Words are one of the internet's only weapons against someone.

Perhaps I'm in the wrong here, but I don't see editing a digital image as defacing so much as it is concrete feedback. The original copy still exists; it isn't as though it were a physical work of art that was modified; it's a digital work, a copy was made and modified in order to better represent verbal feedback that was given about that work. The edits were nothing crude or demoralizing (at least none that I saw), just tweaks to what community members were offering as feedback.

If people don't raise their concerns with the splash arts, Riot doesn't learn that maybe some tweaks are needed. People do get rude about it, but giving feedback and showing how things could be better visually represented is not innately wrong.

Personally, I dislike Ahri, Wukong, and Janna's new art. I've seen a few user modifications that made them much more bearable. There's absolutely nothing wrong with showing an artist where they can improve. This is called constructive criticism, which is very common in the art world. It is one of the reasons the PBE exists.

Silverfang Akali and Warmonger Sion are recent examples of places that Riot would not have improved if some members of the community didn't raise a fuss. Riot realized the models had some iffy features, and improved upon them.

They need to know what the users do and do not like, or they're left in the dark. If a restaurant's deep frying something in putrid oil, you let them know, so they can fix it, and you're not left eating nasty food. In the same way, Riot needs to know where they can do better.

People just want to be known as "TheOneWhoChangedSplashArts" and decide to try and make it better. Really I believe these new splash arts were wonderfully designed, leave all suggestions in the comment section and don't change it.

People don't remake the splash arts because they think they suck, they are remaking them because they feel that they take away the champions identity. They make small tweaks to already great art. The art styles are really good, but on some of the new splashes they ruin the characters identity, Ahri losing the whiskers, seriously?

the only splash i feel was a complete hit and miss in terms of the general personality and characteristics of the champ was my man Kong.

Just that face is one only a mother chimp could love, and they turned him ginger while his in-game model is clearly a darker fur color.

They are completely entitled to change the splash arts however they feel. When Riot puts out a free image into their game, it is like a coloring book page to these guys, they mess around with it and do what they want to it. They would only be defacing it if they changed what everyone else sees in game, which they are not and cannot unless they are hackers and that is a whole different issue all to itself. People are allowed to do whatever they want with something when it is given to them, and Riot actually uses a lot of their tweaks and changes as feed back on how to improve the art for that splash and for future ones.

Many are fantastic, but some of them just don't fit the character. The art is good and looks very nice, but some of them do not represent the original champs at all.
