Varus - The Arrow Of Retribution Remake Concept

Primary Role: Marksman/ADC Primary Lane: Bottom Lane (ADC)


Quick Author Note: Hey guys! Just a couple of quick things. First, there is nothing wrong with the current Varus, I just wanted to test these ideas with a different him. Second, I got really excited thinking about it and don't have a laptop so I'm trying to do this on my mobile phone - I apologise for any mistakes I make here! :P


Ability List: Innate Ability: Blighted Quiver First Ability: Piercing Arrow Second Ability: Sated Vengeance Third Ability: Hail of Arrows Ultimate Ability: Chain of Corruption

Kept most of the ability names the same, they were fine so there was no reason to change them.


Innate Ability: Blighted Quiver

Passive: Varus' basic attacks apply Blight to the target, up to a maximum of three stacks. Further basic attacks against a Blighted target will deal 0.7/0.8/0.9/1.0/1.1% (+1% Ability Power) of their current health in magic damage per stack.

If the target has maximum stacks of Blight, further basic attacks from Varus to the target will cause excess Blight to jump from the target to the nearest three enemies. This does not deal damage, only spreads Blight. Blight lasts for six seconds before disappearing.

Interacts with his abilities in a more unique way as you will see further down.


First Ability: Piercing Arrow

Active - First Cast: Varus begins drawing back his shot, gradually increasing the range and damage of the shot at the cost of 15% movement speed. If the shot is not fired after 4 seconds, half the mana cost is refunded.

Active - Second Cast: Varus releases the arrow in a line, dealing between 10/35/60/85/110 (+90% Attack Damage) and 15/50/95/140/185 (+160% Attack Damage) physical damage, reducing by 15% per enemy hit (minimum 33%).

If an enemy with three stacks of Blight is struck by the Piercing Arrow, the excess Blight becomes volatile and jumps to the nearest enemy (prioritising champions). Both enemies take 10/15/20/25/30 (+15% Attack Damage) plus 4/5/6/7/8% (+2.5% Ability Power) of their maximum health in magic damage. Both targets have their Blight durations refreshed and the second target gains a stack of Blight if they are not already at three stacks.

Cooldown: 14/12/10/8/6 after cast Mana Cost: 70/75/80/85/90 mana


Second Ability: Sated Vengeance

Active: Varus absorbs the essence of all Blighted enemies within 700/750/800/850/900 range, slowing them by 20% per stack of Blight for one second.

Varus then gains 20/22.5/25/27.5/30% attack speed and 10% lifesteal for 4 seconds. For each stack of Blight counted in the siphoning (up to a maximum of 10 Blight counted), the attack speed is increased by 2/3/4/5/6% and the lifesteal is increased by 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2%.

Maximum of 40/52.5/65/77.5/90% attack speed and 20/22.5/25/27.5/30% lifesteal if 10 stacks of Blight are counted. The Blight is not consumed, but the duration of the Blight on all siphoned enemies is refreshed.

Cooldown: 22/19/16/13/10 seconds Mana Cost: 30/35/40/45/50 mana


Third Ability: Hail of Arrows

Active: Varus fires a hail of arrows at an area, dealing 65/100/135/170/205 (+60% bonus Attack Damage) physical damage to all enemies struck and inflicting them with Grievous Wounds for 3 seconds.

If Hail of Arrows strikes target with three stacks of Blight, the excess Blight jumps from that target to all un-Blighted enemies within 300 range of the target, dealing no damage but granting them all one stack of Blight.

Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/10 seconds Mana Cost: 80 mana at all ranks


Ultimate Ability: Chain of Corruption

Active: Varus flings out a tendril of corruption that deals 100/175/250 (+100% Ability Power) magic damage to the first enemy champion struck and immobilising them for two seconds.

The corruption then immediately spreads to nearby enemy champions who are afflicted by Blight. For each stack of Blight the subsequent enemy champion possess, they take 30% damage and are immobilised for 0.5 seconds, up to a maximum of 90% damage and 1.5 seconds immobilised.

Each enemy champion hit by the corruption immediately gains maximum stacks of Blight after the damage is calculated but before the immobilise wears off.

Cooldown: 125/105/85 seconds Mana Cost: 100 mana at all ranks

I saw a theme about Varus spreading corruption and wondered: "It isn't very prominent. How could it become more interactive to suit that theme?" I may have gotten a little excited, so im sorry if the scaling or spelling isn't perfect :P

As for the new abilities, what I was going for was:

  • Hail of Arrows inflicts minor Blight on several enemies, setting up Varus for a Chain of Corruption.
  • Chain of Corruption inflicts major Blight on several enemy champions, setting Varus up for a massively attack speed and life steal boost from Sated Vengeance.

I wanted to keep it as close to the current Varus as I could, maybe giving a few ideas out to other concept creators if they feel like using something!
