Name: Scolac, The Thief's Guardian.

Stats and Abilities

Targeted Role: Fighter

Health: 543-1937 Health Regen: 8.0-17.4 Attack Damage: 58-134 Attack Speed: 0.625 Attack Range: Melee, 175. Mana: 291-1056 Mana Regen: 7.5-16.9 Armor: 27.5-78.5 Magic Resist: 32.1-53.4 Movement Speed: 340

(Passive) The Ties that Bind: Scolac, the flail, is a being all of its own. Scolac can be manipulated around the battlefield by using Thief’s skills. Whenever Scolac is alongside Thief, Thief’s autoattacks deal +15% Bonus AD damage. When the flail is separate from Thief, Thief gains 15% additional movement speed.

All abilities spawn from Scolac’s position, rather than Thief’s. Conversely, all auto-attacks and movement actions are performed only by Thief if the two are separate. Thief auto-attacks with punches if separate, but uses Scolac if together.

If Thief is ever more than 850 away from Scolac, Scolac warps back to him.

Finally, Scolac drains 5 mana a second when separated from Thief. If Thief runs out of mana, Scolac warps back to him.

Activating Q while Scolac is detached from Thief makes the flail fling itself back to Thief, dealing the damage on his location and becoming wielded once more.

Deals 30% less damage against Minions

Range: 300 Cooldown: 4/3.5/3/2.5/2 Activating while detached from Thief costs 32/34/36/38/40 Mana

On hit with Thief, causes an explosion that deals damage to everyone around Thief. Grants Thief a 30% speed boost for 3 seconds if the explosion hits a champion.

Shot: (50/75/100/125/150 +40% bonus AD) Explosion: (80/120/160/200/240 +60% Bonus AD) Range: 800 (Ball) / 300 (explosion) Speed: 2000 Cooldown: 15/14/13/12/11/10 Cost: 80 Mana

http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/wowwiki/images/b/be/Ability_deathwing_cataclysm.png/revision/latest?cb=20120220221955 (R) Mountain’s Chisel Scolac ceases its action for a 1s .If Thief is detached from Scolac, then Scolac warps him to its position during this time. Scolac transforms into its true form, knocking surrounding enemies up for .5 seconds. While in his true form, Scolac can no longer disengage from Thief. Thief gains an auto-attack range of 450, hitting in a line. In addition, Thief gains +20/24/27% bonus attack speed for every successive auto-attack, stacking to a maximum of 60/72/81% attack speed. Attacking another unit without also hitting the first target resets the stacks. Autoattacks also gain a 7/9/11% life steal while in this form After 25 seconds or when the ability is cast a second time, the two return to normal. Cooldown: 100/80/60

(Clarification: This isn't a channel. You can not interrupt it by hitting the flail. You can't damage Scolac anyway, only Thief. The delay is so that people know you're going to appear, and to give you time to readjust your camera before it happens. Keep that in mind)

Lore:

“Tell me again, what’s so special about this thing?” The young thief requested, looking over the crackling fire the group was huddled close to for warmth. An old man sat across from them, brow crinkled as he stared at the fruits of their efforts, a tattered, worn flail. Well used, but not extraordinary seeming in any sense of the word.

“This beauty...” The old man said, voice cracking with excitement. “Is Scolac. Very old. Very Special. And yes, to the right people, very valuable.”

“Just looks like a hunk of scrap metal to me.” The young doubter said, giving the weapon a skeptical glance. “Besides. If it was all that valuable, surely it would have been, you know, better guarded.”

“It’s valuable, but not to the petty peddlers you’re surely used to.” the wrinkled man’s face contorted into a mild grimace. “This is a piece of history, boy.”

The young man groaned a bit, knowing the lecture he was in for.

“Dragons have existed on Runeterra for eons, but they have always been a proud and noble race with rigorous beliefs in terms of power and dominance. Nowadays many tend to look at them as dumb and dangerous beasts, and some lesser dragons are nothing more. But there are still many intelligent dragons, and there used to be even more.

One such dragon was Scolac. Scolac was a dragon of the mountains. However, he was not a very good dragon. Considered a malformed runt by the others, he had little to no treasure or rank, and had little ferocity to speak of. He lived away from other dragons on the fringes of the mountains, and that is where he encountered Gorn. The first leader of the nomadic tribe whose ruins you’re resting in.

It is said that Gorn, having never seen such a strange looking creature, was shocked and awed. He fell to his knees. Scolac, being a runt, had never really experienced respect or awe. He was touched, and, having no real horde or valuables to speak of nor status to uphold, fell to conversation with the mortal. Gorn’s caravan was nearby, and, interested, Scolac followed Gorn home. Here he protected the company from many perils as they wandered. Over these years Gorn served Scolac’s messenger and confidant. Before long, this system created bonds. Agreement turned to friendship. While this bond meant the world to Scolac, it was considered an absolute disgrace by the other dragons. It was only a matter of time until they sought to end the offending whelp.

When the dust cleared, there was little to find but Scolac’s dying remains. Desperate, Gorn attempted to do whatever he could to help, but it was too late. A group of mages attempted to fuse what remained of Scolac into an object, Gorn’s weapon. They failed, of course, but Gorn swore he could still hear Scolac and could still feel his presence. The weapon became something of an artifact to them. They believed that some day, in their moment of need, Scolac would choose another from Gorn’s bloodline and watch over their little tribe once more. Entirely worthless superstition, of course. After all, the tribe, as you can see, are all dead. Still, superstition can prove very profitable.”

Later that night, the thief glanced over. The fire had long died down, and the old man was asleep. Cautiously he stood and tiptoed over to the bundled mace. Finding someone to buy it shouldn’t be hard, and if he was quick, he could get the entire sell price to himself and disappear before the old man and the rest of the hired goons were any wiser

He got to the edge of camp before he noticed anything was wrong, and got even further before he identified the feeling of being watched. Slowly he looked down to the weapon in his hand.

“At last, child, I have found you.” It said, chains almost seeming to writhe and twitch on their own as a strange voice boomed in the back of his skull.

The thief dropped the flail and ran.

Scolac followed.

Quotes:

Chosen: “We will protect our people, no matter how scattered.”

Spawn: “Seems like a good spot for fun outing, wouldn’t you say?” “Are you sure your armor’s on right, child? All the buckles straight? Right then. On we go.”

Respawn: “Whoops. Oh well, we’ll do better next time.” “See? I told you dying wasn’t so bad.”

Movement: “Take me closer. I want to hit them!” “Can you feel it? The anticipation!” “Relax, you’ll do fine.”

Attacking: “That’s it!” “Good job.” “Give them the ol’ one two!”

Being thrown (Q): “Good arm!” “On the mark.” “Perfect.”

Returning (Q, Out of Mana)

“Catch, child!” “Go long. No, longer!” “Let’s play catch. You love catch.”

Activating Ult: “I’m home!” “Give us a hug.” “You’ve all been very bad.”

Attacking Dragon: “Angry? No, no. I’m not angry. Just… disappointed.” “Lousy no good...” “You’ll pay for the crimes of your ancestors, dumb brute.” “How could they hate ME when YOU exist?”

Joke “I’ve been reading while you’re asleep, you know. A book about this strange thing called glue. It’s amazing, I just can’t seem to put it down!” “Hello, hungry. I’m Scolac.” “Wanna hear a joke about paper? Never mind. It’s pretty tear-able.” “Why did the ale go to the sheriff’s office? Because it got mugged.” “Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was out standing in his field.” “How come you never see a skeleton at a dance? Because they have no body to go with.” (Near Riven)“Say, uh. Child. Do you think you maybe... could introduce me? To the sword, I mean.”

Taunt “I’d better not catch you around here again.” (Near Shyvana) "Tell me your woes. Uncle Scolac will make it all better.”

I liked the concept. I disliked the implementation.

He just sounds like a slightly unsatisfying champion to play.

Honestly to me he looks like Olaf and Ori had a threesome with Aatrox.

He throws an axe a flail at people, that, instead of slowing, grounds them. Then he uses the flail to throw abilities and as an ult he gets range and AS, just like Aatrox.

[I'll edit it later with more info and the constructive feedback, but now my game started]

Hi there.

As much as I love the story behind the champion and his intergrity with his weapon and kit, the kit itself lacks a little bit. Let me explain.

Themtically, the champion is really good. He fits well with the thematic of the league, the lore is FANTASTIC, and kit is thematically well-entwined with the lore. I would love to see such a thematic to be implemented in the league somewhere.

Now, to the Kit.

Passive: While I like the different bonuses it gives in both stances, 8 mana per second is a lot. I would rather recommend you to reduce it and scale with level, or remove completely, because, while the whole kit revolves around Scolac being away from the thief, you punish the player for doing so. That is counter-intuitive a little bit. Also, consider scaling bonuses with level - will give the character more of mechanical depth.

Q; I like the mechanic of this spell a lot. The return back feature gives him some room to operate with. However, the projectile speed is quite slow. To compare, I tell you that Victor's laser travels with 1300 speed. Consider increasing the speed, or impact area.

W: I like the simplicity of the mechanic. The only thing I would say, reduce the cripple down to 2 seconds - 3 is too much, you are basically disabling enemies for the averag teamfight duration. And the other thing - even though this kit revolves around Scolac beign away from the thief, I feel like something other than your Ultimate should give Thief himself some bonuses. Otherwise, the only thing he can do while on cooldowns is run around and do nothing. Add something to his W efffect, if it cast while Scolac is wielded.

E: I like the idea of self-tageted skillshots. Clarification: does it explode on enemy champion contact, or only on Thief contact? Either way, great skill requirement implementation.

R: While I like the idea of some buff to the Thief himself, I quite don't understand the requirement to not separate from him anymore. For this ult to be effective it requires Thief to be in the middle of teamfight, while all his other kit condones the opposite. And he has no other tools to get into the teamfight. There are two options here - either give him tools to enter teamfights on his basic kit, or change the ultimate in some way that does not require his presence.

That was my review of your champion. This is a good concept. With some flaws, but which concept doesn't have them? I hope you listen to my advices. But anyway, keep up a good work - this lore is book-worthy, in my opinion!

Alright, so this is cool. You've made a melee champion who is basically the king of harass. He'll be a pain in top lane I can tell you that, but I'm a bit less certain how well he'll perform after the laning phase is done.

So, the passive is all about figuring out when to strike out with Scolac and when to bring it back in. Sweet. And the 8 mana per second cost where Scolac is away from the champ really emphasizes that you want to send Scolac out, then reel him back in. I can see a lot of burst coming out with a good combo of basically all of the abilities in a go. It'd be pretty devastating.

But, doing a quick bit of calculation. If you send out Scolac at level 1, if for some reason you can't get back away far enough to pick it back up then that 15 seconds will drain 120 mana for one ability. That's a lot. Maybe, cut the cooldown on the Q a little or make the mana cost scale with level? That'd be a bit less unforgiving.

The other relatively minor problem as I see is that he doesn't offer anything other than damage. Yeah, Grounded is good if you can catch an Ezreal or Fizz. But against a lot of other champions Grounded doesn't do anything. Maybe make it Grounded and Slowed? That way it does a little to effect everyone.

The other thing I noticed is about the interaction between his abilities and his R. So, basically when he uses his ult for the next 25 seconds he can't use his Q, and his W and E are stuck on him. Ok, I don't particularly like being locked out of my abilities for a long period of time, but, that isn't to say it can't work.

Now what I do see as being a problem is how the champion handles the transition form somewhat surprisingly ranged burst champion to a pure melee bruiser. There are a few ways that melee champions survive big teamfights while being melee champions: being tanky, having a ton of lifesteal, or being able to bounce around and dodge any attempt to kill them.

Scolac does none of that. I have this sad image of Scolac using this amazing big ultimate ability only to get blasted down by a laughing enemy team.

So, a suggestion. Perhaps have the ultimate give him some decent tanky stats. Or a lot of lifesteal (which would work well with the multi-hit auto-attacks and attack speed buff), and/or have the E give Thief a shield instead of the slow. Then when you use the Ult Scolac receives the passive speed bonus as though Scolac was separated from Thief. That would let him stay fast enough to stick to his opponents when he ults, and the shield would help with some survivability in lane and definitely during a teamfight.

Well that's all for my suggestions. It's a really cool idea, great job.

Stand back, I'm a...certified...hater...

...aw man, this guy's better than mine.

About the only thing I can think of is what happens if you use the E while Scolac is still being wielded. Other than that, it's a melee champion who can displace himself to attack on multiple fronts. It's clever, allows for a way to contribute while behind without getting yourself killed, and allows plenty of options on both sides, on top of the wonderful lore that builds on the background of Runeterra and sets up an unlikely hero dragged into a larger world by, of all things, a dragon-flail. If this doesn't hit the top five, I'm calling shenanigans.

CCOS Review

Hmm..I'm not quite sure what to feel about the guy. On the surface he seems very much like a generic bruiser, but also has Orianna like mechanics. However, unlike Orianna, Scolac suffers from a major flaw - the inabiltity to reposition your hammer in a timely manner. At the max rank of your Q, with maximum CDR, that's still a 6 second cooldown on Q. With the inability to set-up or react to enemy positioning in a timely fashion, the core of your kit has fallen down. A core mechanic has been relegated to a secondary position, and, as a result drags down the entire kit. This is not to mention how it being away from you drains mana. Per second. This is, in my opinion one of the biggest problems in the kit because I hope you enjoy playing the guy only in URF or OOM most of the time.

W - This is ok, except it grounds for THREE seconds. THREE. This virtually assures the death of anyone who gets smacked by this (for examplle hammer throw into W) as they no longer have the ability to escape. This shouldn't deal reduced damage to minions in the first place because the bases and scaling (let's face it, it's bonus AD, and you're most likely buying a single damage item at most) means that the damage is really not that strong.

E - It's interesting.

R - Steroid ultimate... I'm sorry, this is just one of the things in concept creation which I really can't forgive. Also the wording is a bit off. When Scolac pauses all action, does this mean a chanel? A PBAoE stun? A mapwide stun? (It's probably the first) Regardless, you turn into a pseudo tanky DPS carry character with a knock-off Lulu ult. The attack speed is feeling quite forced as there is nothing really to encourage it being there - there isn't an on-hit effect to abuse, nor carry scaling to play with, it just seems to boost the extra damage while wielding the hammer. It also lasts an absurd amount of time - 25 seconds. In this case, this would be played as a splitpusher hands down. Between the empowered autos and the WTFhuge burst of AS, combined with a very meh presence in teamfights, this is basically the one thing this guy can do. Another thing that ticks me off is how this feels like a design from the melee DPS era of League, back in Season 1. Yes, while there is a cool gimmick there to play with, this guy can't really contribute in fights outside of ground people (while valuable, others can contribute more, like Xin's scattering, or Irelia's general mauling of any ranged character not called Graves) and run at the AD carry screaming and flailing. The kit itself is very self-contained, and honestly, I'm not too much of a fan because while there is some depth to it, it amouunts to 'Throw Q at target, then WE to stop them from escaping.' Proceed to maul them with R and my ridicuous AS steroid. It feels..unrefined. Even as a tanky DPS there isn't too much to contribute. Your 'gapcloser' is shut down by slows and any type of CC, while it requires an initial 1.5 second channel to start using in the first place. Even the decision of when to use it is lightened by how ridiculously long it lasts.

I apologise for coming off harsh. It's just...I'm not a fan of melee, especially the dreaded tanky DPS era of S1. It just brings back all those horrific memories, y'know?

This is so similar to my concept I'm about to post in terms of the duo champ and skills originating from one. Upvoted because i like these sorts of concepts.
