voli rework concept, rough draft
little drowsy atm so i want to try to be concise, also just an initial thing that i'd like to modify later on
let me start by saying that i want any rework volibear gets to remain faithful to his character; i am a firm believer that his kit only suffers from being too simple and would be very good with just having more put into it. tried to imprint my own idea of what his 'role' should be since currently he falls kinda flat. gonna try to avoid numbers since i think the concept is more important
passive: hitting an enemy champion or monster 3 times gives volibear bonus magic damage on-hit. hitting an enemy 5 times afterwards marks that target with electrified, which increases the damage and causes all subsequent hits to spread it to nearby enemies. (enemies struck by the bounces skip the first 3 hits requirement). /// when volibear is low on health he regenerates a portion of his HP over time. this is increased by attacking electrified enemies up to a cap. executing a champion or epic monster with Frenzy instantly restores a set portion of health (ignores the cap) (lightning takes a brief delay before it bounces to other enemies)
Q: Rolling Thunder
volibear drops to all fours and gains increased movement speed. recasting this spell lets volibear throw all enemies in the target area a set distance in any direction. enemies who are electrified and collide with another opponent (either being flung or being hit by a flung opponent) take extra damage. (think a melee-range taliyah W, with a little extra tack-on) MS is increased when moving towards champions and increased further when running towards electrified targets
W: frenzy
atk speed passive gone, otherwise the same as now. Applies Electrified, and deals bonus damage to nearby enemies if Frenzy kills a unit. (possibly a short range skillshot or something like rek'sai ult -- targeted spell that can be dodged?)
E: thunder roar
after a 1 second delay, volibear roars, slowing nearby enemies and raising his attack speed for a few seconds. If there is an electrified enemy nearby, Volibear gains a second part to the spell; he can target said enemy to, after another 1 second delay, stun that unit and all units around them and providing a stronger attack speed steroid.
(note: the stun has a 2 second delay total and would warn you that you've been targeted as soon as Voli casts it)
R: maelstrom
volibear channels the storm, causing lightning bolts to strike at a distance in a circle around him before rapidly closing in on the location he casted it; after converging on volibear, lightning jolts out from him in the area, dealing magic damage. the initial bolts deal heavy damage and stacks Electrified on enemies struck; for a set duration after ulting, Electrified bolts can bounce back to units they've already struck
kinda unsure on his ult but i wanted something that would be cool and useful for him to get his passive rolling quickly in a fight if he can position to make it hit a lot of people at once. having a lightning storm that starts out very far away from him and closes in on him gives him a little more counterplay in melee range. i'll try to clean this idea up later
goal is to make him a very AOE heavy juggernaut set up to do massive damage in teamfights once he gets momentum, but is a tad worse at dueling since his optimal damage requires multiple targets to bounce lightning off of. he makes up for lack of poke/siege by being able to disrupt with Q and make picks with E on champions who he's had time to power up against. keeping him very similar to his current kit as an AA-based bruiser with abilities meant to empower his autos or get him in range to hit you, + having an execute. while his ability to start a fight is lackluster due to highly telegraphed engage and a stun that's only available after fighting, he has excellent cleanup potential in a fight he's gotten to participate in thanks to Q being boosted against electrified targets and having the choice to save his stun for after they try to disengage.
