Introduction Hello everyone, and welcome to my latest champion concept, Zan the Tainted Masterpiece! I got this idea from the thought that it would be cool to have a sort of ink swordsman, and here I am. I noticed that a lot of ink concepts were coming out for some reason while I was making this, and I thought the timing was pretty funny timing. Anywho, please enjoy!

Kit Zan is supposed to be an AP team skirmisher that specializes in being in teamfights. He gets benefits from enemies being in his Blood-Starved Canvas with "Blood Dye" marks.

Stats: HP: 600-2050 Mana: 400-990 Mana Regen: 8-20 Auto Range: 150 Attack Damage: 65-125 Armor: 36-92 Magic Resist: 32.1-53.4 Movement Speed:350

Passive - Blood-Starved Canvas

Upon entering combat, a large ring of bloodlust forms around Zan. By damaging enemy champions while the ring is present, he gives them a “Blood Dye” mark. For each enemy champion with a “Blood Dye” mark in the ring, he gains 5/10/15% decaying movement speed for 1.5 seconds each time he autos an enemy champion. (Blood Dye marks last for 5 seconds).

Q - The Feasting Murder (Cooldown: 15/13/11/9/7) (Mana Cost: 60 Static) Zan swiftly drifts towards the cursor, and performs a wide horizontal slash in the direction he is facing at the end of the drift that deals 70/85/100/115/130(+60% AP) magic damage and allows him to swiftly paint a crow for each champion already with a “Blood Dye” mark that flies around the edge of the ring (if multiple crows, they will scatter themselves equally)(Each Crow has a duration of 5 seconds).

Enemy champions he auto attacks will cause the crows to dive through the location the enemy was hit, dealing 30/40/50/60/70 (+40% AP) magic damage. The crows then return to the outer ring before they can attack again (takes 1.5 seconds for travel). (Maximum of 5 crows, and enemies may only take damage from 1 crow).

W - Starving Skies (Cooldown: 25/23/21/19/17) (Mana Cost: 70/80/90/100/110) Zan quickly paints a morbid scene of the sky in a location behind him that lasts for 5 seconds. During this duration, each time he damages an enemy champion with a “Blood Dye” stack causes him to gain a stack of “Gluttony”. After a delay may reactivate this ability to quickly dash back towards the morbid scene, dealing 50/60/70/80/90 (+30% AP). Once he hits the Starving Skies, he detonates it to heal Zan and allies in a small AoE for 35/45/55/65/75 (+40% Bonus AP)(+10 for each stack of Gluttony).

E - Hollow Welkin (Cooldown: 12 Static) (Mana Cost: 45/50/55/60/65) This ability’s effects change depending on whether or not Zan is in combat, and each one of these has a seperate cooldown.

Out of combat - Zan paints and sends out a slow moving flock of crows in a target direction. He may reactivate this ability to blink to the flock of birds and deal 60/70/80/90/100 (+50% Bonus AP) in an AoE rotating slash. (Range: 1000)

In Combat - After damaging two or more enemy champions with an ability, Zan can activate this ability to have a quickly-painted copy of himself perform a low-sweeping rotating slash at his location that deals 50/55/60/65/70 +2%(+2% for every 100 AP) maximum health damage to all enemies hit and slowing enemies with a "Blood-Dye" mark by 20/25/30/35/40% for 1 second. (Range: 500)

R - Portrait of the Ravenous (Cooldown: 120/100/80) (Mana Cost: 100 static) Zan targets an enemy champion with a “Blood Dye” mark on them and performs a heavy slash, with a large number of crows swooping down as he performs it, dealing 150/200/250 (+70% Bonus AP). If the enemy is killed, a painting of their portrait (shown on the ability bar) is left there. Zan may activate this ability, regardless of cooldown, over the portrait while he is out of combat to cast a teleport to the location of the enemy champion. (Note: Does not follow the enemy champion, but rather uses their location at time of casting). The portrait is then consumed.

Lore Zan appears whenever the crows appears, or perhaps the crow appears wherever he appears. The skies seem to grow thicker and darker, turning into beautiful works ink… a beautiful forecoming of the tragedy that he brings. The Ionian people are at first enthralled by the spectacle that appears before them, but they come to their senses when the heavy waft of blood sinks into their noses. Although by then, their fates have already been decided… the fate of becoming dye for Zan’s own masterpiece.

Zan was at first an ink painter that was enthralled with the crows that visited his village as much as they were enthralled with him. They seemed to follow him wherever he went, and always were there to become features of his art… both a duty and relaxation for his village that never stopped craving money. The collaborative hunger for money was like a demon, and it seemed to make every villager a marionette. Even Zan felt like he was slowly becoming drawn more and more to the comforts of wealth… and the thought of it terrified him.

The gluttony for money was prominent in Kuan village, with every person working towards the common goal with a demonic-like passion. Zan attempted to drift away from it, and only paint with his ink for enjoyment rather than wealth -- but he was slowly becoming disgusted with the cheapness of the materials he could afford due to his lack of wealth. Nobody enjoyed his portraits of the crows, seeing them as a grim reminder of death rather than the beautiful works of art that Zan saw. The village kept pressuring Zan to earn his keep, to earn anything at all from the constant tourists that came to the village. They kept forcefully pushing him to the goals they wanted, wanting to use him as a puppet for the demon that seemed to control them. Even his mother, a doll-maker, was no exception, joining them as they harrased him for his poverty. Before long, Zan himself snapped and his father discovered him in his studio… surrounded by his crows and ink paintings with a sword his father gave him before he passed away stabbed through his stomach.

His mother was the only one affected, it seemed, and before long she lost all color that seemed to exist in the world… it becoming an ink painting of black-and-white. Her constant pressuring of Zan seemed to cloud everything, and she lost her motivations to do anything at all… before long, she herself became exactly like Zan was. All her dolls were of Zan, and they were scattered around her in lifelessness while she layed collapsed on the floor. Only the crows constant visits seemed to draw the life in her through anger, and she threw whatever was in reach at them to go away -- her son wasn’t there to entertain them anymore.

In the end, it was the crows that brought Zan’s mother back to life. The demon seemed to have restrained his puppets from interfering with her grief, but eventually they came back haunting her with calls for her to make money. Their constant harassment infuriated her, the colorless world beginning to show splats of red across her vision as she reached her breaking point. Finally, she grasped the sword that Zan had used to take his own life and raised it into position to go join her son she felt she had killed… but the crows seemed to swarm her in the way they had Zan before she had a chance. They flocked around her and pulled the sword away from her… and instead brought her all the dolls she had made of Zan. Their red-eyes protruded into her colorless world as she seemed to understand what they were saying… that she could make Zan again.

All her life went into the creation of a life-sized doll of Zan… one that felt and looked every way she remembered her son. With his hair that was as black as the sky he painted for her when he was 5, the bright red eyes that matched the crows he loved, and the firmness of his skin as he had when she hugged him last… he truly became her masterpiece. When she was finally finished, she weeped tears of joy as the crows he loved fluttered around him in glee. She put him in his studio, with all of the ink and papers he could ever need should he feel like drawing again. Unfortunately, the villagers did not take the same appreciation to her work as she did.

They had watched with disgust as the mother worked on a life-sized doll the size of Zan… of something that would never bring any profit to the village. Additionally, the house constantly being surrounded by crows (even more that appeared daily when Zan was alive) brought an ominous view to the village. The tourists began to stay away, and the money slowly started to wither away from the village… eventually, it brought the demon that seemed to control them all into action to punish the mother.

They began at night, every villager that was able gathering outside the house before they stormed it to take everything out of it. The mother, who grew old and lifeless from the amount of work she put on Zan, the sword, and all of her art materials. They threw them in the studio with the Zan doll before burning it in disgust… removing a hindrance on the village. They paid no mind to the pleading of the mother for help as she was caught in the flames… and they would’ve kept leaving if not for the peculiar sight of the crows as they dived into the flames to try and save Zan.

For every crow that dove into the flames, the world seemed to lose a little bit of color for each of the villagers… and before long, it became as if they were looking at a black-and-white ink painting through their eyes. Not even the flame had any color it seemed, appearing only to be a beautifully painting flame made of ink. However, their infatuation with their surroundings ceased when they noticed a figure walk from the fire… a man with a sword in his hands. Before they could react, the figure moved quickly and sliced people in front in half. From the corpses appeared crows dyed red with blood, and it was at that sight they knew the fate that awaited them.

Despite this, they tried to flee… but it was to no avail, with the atmosphere becoming heavy with the smell of ink dyed with iron. The monster’s gluttony for blood seemed to match their own for money, and it seemed to be a common thought through the village that they had created this monster -- this demon. By morning, the village became a gruesome scene of beauty and tragedy, with bodies and art stewed around. Only the twisted laughter and flock of wings could be heard from the center of the village, but it was already drifting away in search of new potential works to satisfy its gluttonous nature.

Appearance Zan wears a black yukata with a white-feather pattern on it with sandals on his feet.. His black hair is medium-length and somewhat messy. From both the hem of his clothing and hair ink occasionally drips. His sword, a black wakizashi constantly hangs loosely in his left hand.

Hey man!

Zan has a really cool thematic (from what I've seen through the abilities, didn't have time to read the lore yet). Anyways he's mostly solid but there seems some unnecessary mechanics.

The ring portion of this passive seems almost entirely unneeded. Its simply a range indicator for just his ult that for some reason is always there. Unless the ring is really small in size and he has abilities that reach outside of its zone, I don't see a point for this ability.

If the enemy is killed, a painting of their portrait (shown on the ability bar) is left there permamently. Every time a portrait enters a ring, it charges up over 1.5 seconds (glowing more visible as it does) to deal 200/300/400 (+60% AP) to all enemies on the portrait. The champion that the portrait was made of takes 10/15/20% of the damage as true damage if they are hit. (Range: 350)

It would be nice to know the range of this ability (Is it Kayn ult range or Rek'Sai ult range sort of estimate). Anyways the second part of the ability, from my understanding, seems like it has a lot of really cool potential but doesn't seem like it would actually play well. Your basically hoping the enemy is stupid enough to walk on the portrait at the same time that it detonates. Which is super difficult. Especially considering how Zan has no way to keep your on the portrait or move you onto one.

I'm probably misunderstanding some design intentions, but anyways thats all I've got for now. Zan is pretty cool though, literally actually the first painter champion that I haven't hated.

Seems pretty cool, and I approve of the thematic. It seems that he's a bit too gimmicky to really effectively serve as a skirmisher but that's probably just me.

Overall quite a nice champion, but:

  1. While his passive is good, doesnt really fit on his kit. Since, from the way his other skills work, it doesnt seem he will be autoattacking enemies at all.

  2. Good ability but it seems to have the same problem with his passive. With his kit doesnt seem he wants to go in for an autoattack.

  3. E is fine, but i think the range on his out-of-combat should be reduced. 1000 units is a pretty long range for a blink.

  4. I think there should be a way to remove the portrait from the map.

very nice theme, very well designed concept

wear does he carry the paint brush? Since he doesnt carry a sheath I can only assume its on the hilt or he has a separate paint brush
