Champion Concept: Joan, the Puppet Master

Concept Joan is a controller who seeks to turn the battlefield into his puppet show! He does this by throwing enemies around, and controlling enemy movement through his Threads and multiple ways of CC'ing enemies.

Aesthetics and Theme Joan's character is that of an old man, similar to Zilean. Although Joan doesn't float around and throw clocks, he throws enemies around to compensate. Joan is a controller who seeks to control battles through displacement and other forms of CC.

Joan is an old man who carries multiple puppets, as well as a spool of thread. He travels with worn-out shoes, and wears a worn-out blue shirt and pants. He speaks with a soft voice, and seems like there's a somewhat ominous factor about him. I would describe him as a mix between Janus from Smite and Zilean. He's relatively easygoing, but he becomes unhinged at certain points.

Lore Joan walked an empty road, alone again. Well, not quite alone. He had three puppets with him: one of a Shuriman emperor, one of a vicious Xer'Sai, and one of his old friend Zilean. Joan had been expelled from Demacia after his last puppet show, when 6 Demacians were found dead, in fully fleshed-out costumes. But Joan didn't know any better, he was just trying to make people happy.

Joan walked the desert road, thinking about what to do next. He could return to Demacia and beg for forgiveness, but the Demacians permanently expelled him from their kingdom. He feared that return meant death. Instead, Joan came to a different conclusion.

Joan decided that it was time to spin a new thread.

Playstyle and Stats Joan builds similarly to a Zyra or Brand support. He doesn't gain anything from Ardent Censer, so he won't be another enchanter support. He'll want to invest in items like Liandry's Torment and Rylai's Crystal Scepter to increase his damage while also providing utility.

Health: 500 (+72 per level) - 1796 at level 18. Health Regen: 6 per 5 seconds (+.8 per 5 seconds per level) - 20.4 per 5 seconds at level 18. Mana: 500 (+55.55 per level) - 1444 at level 18. Mana Regen: 12 per 5 seconds (+.5 per level) - 20.5 per 5 seconds at level 18. Attack Range: 550. Attack Damage: 53 (+3 per level) - 107 at level 18. Attack Speed: .61 (+2% per level) - .97 at level 18. Armor: 25 (+3 per level) - 76 at level 18. Magic Resist: 30 (+.5 per level) - 38.5 per level. Movement Speed: 340.

Abilities Passive - Puppeteer: Self-Targeted Innate Buff and Auto Attack Enhancer with Persistent Effect

Every fourth basic attack creates a Thread between Joan and his target. Additionally, Joan gains a free level in Unspool at the beginning of the game.

Puppeteer enables Joan to create more Threads, increasing the effectiveness of his other abilities. Additionally, the free level in Unspool at the beginning of the game enables Joan to manipulate the battlefield from Level 1, opening the use of both Spool and Reel In from Level 1.

Q - Unspool: Cost: 50/55/60/65/70/75 Cooldown: 2 Seconds (7.5/7/6.5/6/5.5/5 Second Recharge) Range: 1100 Tether Radius: 1500 Straight-Line Single-Target Skillshot with Persistent Tether

Joan spins his thread in the target direction, dealing 50/80/110/140/170/200 (+50% AP) Magic Damage to the first enemy hit, slowing them by 25/30/35/40/45/50% for 2 seconds, and creating a Thread between himself and them. Enemies remain connected to Joan by the Thread until they move far enough away from him. Hitting a minion with Spool refunds 25% of the cooldown.

Joan can have up to 10 Threads active. If 10 Threads are active, hitting an enemy with Unspool or Puppeteer will deactivate the oldest Thread.

Unspool is Joan's core ability. All of Joan's other abilities revolve around Threads, so hitting enemy champions with it is extremely important.

W - Spool: Cost: 70 Cooldown: 13/12.5/12/11.5/11 Seconds Range: 1500 Enemy-Targeted Special with Additional Effect

Joan tightens his Threads, dealing 40/80/120/160/200 (+40% AP) Magic Damage to enemies with Threads. Enemies with multiple Threads take 25% increased damage for each Thread that they currently have. Additionally, enemies receive an additional effect based on the amount of Threads that they currently have.

1-2 Threads: Slowed by 15/20/25/30/35% for 1.25 seconds. 3-4 Threads: Rooted for 1.25 seconds. 5+ Threads: Stunned for 1.25 seconds.

E - Reel In: Cost: 100 Cooldown: 20/19/18/17/16 Seconds Cast Range: 1500 Enemy-Targeted Pull

Joan pulls the target enemy with a Thread to himself, dealing 80/130/180/230/280 (+60% AP) Magic Damage. Enemies must have a Thread for 2 seconds before Reel In can be cast on them. Enemies between Joan's target and himself will block Reel In, stopping the pull early. If no enemies are currently blocking Reel In, the Thread connecting Joan and the target will be highlighted to Joan. Reel In adds 2 Threads to enemies.

Reel In is Joan's best form of controlling the battlefield, besides his ultimate. Reel In has extremely good potential for displacement and kill potential, but requires extended set-up in order for it to be effective.

R - Marionette: Cost: 100 Cooldown: 130/120/110 Seconds Cast Range: 1500 Stun Radius: 150 (Full Circle: 300) Enemy-Targeted Special

Joan slams all Threaded enemies into each other at the target area before returning them to where they were. Enemies pulled take 60/80/100 (+15% AP) Magic Damage, increased by 7.5% for each enemy pulled. Non-threaded enemies in the area take the same damage and are stunned for .5 seconds. After 2 seconds, Joan will cast Marionette again. Joan will cast Marionette a final time after another 2 seconds. The size of the stun area is increased by 10% for each enemy pulled by Marionette.

Marionette is Joan's big ability. It is his best way to control the battlefield, and creates a massive disruption that lasts for multiple seconds. This ability is extremely powerful, and provides Joan with immense impact when it's up, and he has multiple enemies Threaded.

Conclusion Joan is a control support with multiple ways to manipulate his enemies, in order to create his own grand puppet show. Joan would be a great addition to the game as a support, similar to Zyra and Brand. He strikes a middle ground between damage and utility that no other Champion quite fits in to, and would be a great Champion on the Rift. Any constructive criticism would be much appreciated. Thanks!

maybe lower q's cd as it levels up? its on a really high cooldown for a core ability. I understand that his passive grants him threads, but his autos are very slow.

First off, I think these numbers are really low. These numbers (damage wise) will not have much of any effect in lane, or out of it.

For your passive, does that mean fourth attack in general, or fourth consecutive attack?

Your W is really strange. Do you mean each thread in general, or each thread on that specific person? Because having 10 threads on 1 person sounds virtually impossible. That requires 40 basic attacks. Even if you meant threads in general, I don't see how it's possible to have 10 threads out in the first place, because your threads will disappear too soon. It honestly feels like a filler ability; something just added to have it.

The E feels like a really conditional Blitzcrank Q, that does less damage. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it doesn't feel original.

Reactivating the ult is kind of a trap. I say this because it's worded in a way that implies that it is guaranteed to reactivate every 2 seconds, twice. That means there are 4 seconds that you can't activate your E, because it'll break the thread.

Overall, I think this kit is really difficult to play effectively, because it has such a linear playstyle (Which is hard to balance) and there are so many answers to it. Dodge the Q, kite away, use a gap closer, etc. But he also has virtually no specialty that gives him a reason to be picked over someone else. Why pick him, when Blitzcrank is on the table? Thresh? I honestly think even Zac would function better as a support, because it's so much easier to make work, and does a better job of displacement and CC.

I always love support so i'll add my two cents.

P: nice way to encourage poking and conserve mana. Q:nice and simple. W: Nice and encourages planning/ like combo potential for setups. E: whats the travel time? R: a triple knockup is really scary especially with that cast range, but i can see it working.

Let me try to help you with some feedback.

Quick Feedback:

Passive: Interesting, but i don't think that the free skill point at level 1 is necessary. Maybe limit the first skill level up to his Q, just like Azir would be better.

Q: The cooldown is too low and there's no charge max amount; also, the number of threads seems unnecessary big. Instead of spinning the thread once, what about making it a channel skill (allows moviment during it) that makes Joan spin multiple times his threat, like Taliyah's Q, but every hit would create a thread? Would make it more reliable and remove the necessity of charges and large mana usage. Otherwise than that, it seems unique.

W: Is a good skill, but the increased damage is a bit crazy when stacking 10 threads (250% if i read correctly).

E: Really good, nothing to say here beyond that.

R: Maybe just one cast would be better. Continuous Hard CC over 6 seconds doesn't seems right. Perhaps a one but more powerful cast, with something like 200/300/400 + 60% AP damage? Beyond this issue, it sounds really fun to use.

I think he shouldn't have 340 base ms, since he's ranged. It's interesting to see a champion related to Zilean. I think that the concept of old sages has enough room for development and is something that league lacks a little (sage, old champs that aren't stereotypical buffed or hot).

Sorry if i was rash. I hope this will help you!
