Lore

Valerio Lacer is the wandering High Priest of the Order of Mana Revelers. Though his nation of origin is unknown, he currently takes refuge in the jungles of Kumungu to bask in the pure, untouched mana the region houses. This is where he first made contact with his god and began his worship of the flowing energy known as mana.

The Order of Mana Revelers, once a large and powerful cult in the Empire of Noxus (with a few follower scattered throughout Valoran) is now in shambles after an attempt on the Grand General's life. This prompted a devastated Valerio, partially mad, to seek refuge in the League of Legends as he attempts to bolster his number of followers and fulfill the will of his god.

Short Story: The Mana Zealot

Part 1 (Freljord), Part 2 (Piltover), and Part 3 (Noxus)

Abilities

(Note: All of Valerio's abilities cost percent mana, though not indicated)

  • Passive - Mana Vein: Valerio draws mana from the land, regenerating 1% of his maximum mana for every 2% mana he is missing. In addition, all of Valerio's damaging abilities in crystal form mark any affected targets. If an allied champion auto attacks a marked target, the mark is consumed and a small amount of health and mana is restored to that champion.

  • Q - Mana Burst/Mana Eruption: Mana erupts from the ground, dealing damage to all enemies hit based on mana regen rate/AP. Crystal form: Crystallized mana erupts from the ground, causing damage to all enemies hit based on current mana/AP and slightly displacing all nearby units

  • W - Crystallize: Valerio crystallizes his mana, breaking all roots, stuns and snares, making all damage taken while crystallized to apply to his mana pool instead of his health and empowering his abilities. While Crystallized, Valerio cannot regenerate mana except through Jewel of the Faith. Crystallize breaks after Valerio gets hit by an ability, runs out of mana, or reactivates Crystallize.

  • E - Mana Burn/Mana Rupture: Valerio sends out a skill shot in target direction, damaging the first target hit based on mana regen rate/AP. The target then takes X damage per second for Y seconds (increased by Z based on current percent of target’s mana/energy). Crystal Form: Valerio sends out a skill shot in target direction, dealing damage based on current mana/AP to the first target hit as well as applying a minor slow. If the target has mana/energy, their mana begins to crystalize, rupturing for a small amount of damage and briefly stunning them after a few seconds.

  • R - Jewel of the Faith/Stone of the Damned: Valerio takes in power from the Jewel of the Faith, creating a consecrated zone of mana essence that increases the move speed of his allies, mana/energy regeneration of all allies inside the zone by X%, and health regeneration by Y%. In addition, the damage of spells and abilities is increased by that champion’s mana/energy regeneration rate. Crystal Form:Valerio takes in power from the Stone of the Damned, creating a desecrated zone of mana crystals that damage all enemies inside the zone and briefly rooting them and then slowing them slightly. While inside the zone, Valerio’s abilities cost less mana, he enters the crystallized state and cannot leave the crystallized state until he runs out of mana (or leaves the zone).

Personal Thoughts

Velario is designed to be a ranged control mage for the mid or top lane. I feel pretty good that this kit not only captures the spirit of the lore but also give a unique and fun experience to the player. The idea came from the combination two ideas, that of a mana scaling champion (in a different way than ryze or singed) and the idea that the item sapphire crystals are not actually sapphire, but instead solidified mana. Valerio, through his faith, has uncovered the secret of converting mana between the states.

This is my third iteration of this champion ( you can see the previous versions here and here). Thoughts and feedback are welcomed and appreciated :)
