Molche the wandering Funi
Molche the traveling Funi Of the many strange creatures naturally in Runtera most scholars agree that the Funi are the most befuddling. Harder to find than yordles, more reclusive than any other race then that of the Funi are in fact the most mystifying. Small and unmistakably a plant fungi that walks and talks as though it were a human. As result, as much the scholar and mages muse so to have the masters of folklore. In the central world the consensus it that the funi are the souls from lost children who fell asleep in fairy circles, but yet in the sands of shurima they speak of the Funi as a wandering nature spirits who signal the movement of nature. Stranger still the tales of the forests of Iona were they claim Funi are the protectors of hidden things, knowledge rightly forgotten or yet to be learned. However the greatest story of the funi perhaps come from bilgewater were they tell the legend of the traveling fungus no larger than a child, draped in moss who sneaks on to ships bound for distant lands. They call this traveling stowaway reverently “Young Molche”.
The story goes as follows. Once on the high sees a young captain and bold crew sailed for distant lands. Brave and brash these vagabonds had “borrowed” a map from the temple of the bearded lady. The map (Like all maps of value) was supposedly aligned with a great treasure on hidden island that could only be found by the blessing of Nagakabouros herself. Fortunately they had also “borrowed” a young priestess as well. However despite their preparedness as they approached the island a great storm like nothing they had ever seen appeared, as if the great serpent itself was reeling itself against them. The ship was shattered by the waves and the entire crew, save two, was lost. The two survivors, who be the brash captain and the young priestess were marooned on the enchanted Isle. After they had gathered their strength they spent most of it shouting at each other and perhaps this is what attracted the attention of the Islands denizens. Molche, the bravest of the tribe was curios. So doing his best impression of a lizard he snuck closely to listen to the newcomers. By then they were shouting again this time about food. Molche couldn’t speak their language but when something is hungry it is usually obvious. So he scurried of into the woods to get some good loam for them to eat. When he returned they had each fallen asleep and a strange glowing thing had appeared on the beach. It was warm, very warm it was very, very strange. So molche did the logical thing, he tried touching it. That was a mistake. He screamed very, very loud. The castaways woke with a start. The captain grabbed firmly hold of molche who was now in absolute terror! The priestess pointed pointed and screamed so molche did the polite thing and screamed and pointed back. The captain began to bellow and yell at both of them, grabbing the stick form the very warm thing and held it close to molche, who not wanting to be burned again did the only thing he knew. “ACHOOO” The captain sputtered as a cloud of spores erupted from molche, who was immediately dropped beside the now sneezing priestess who had also been hit. Molche scurried of into the woods again but not far. He heard them again this time though he could understand them. The were shouting again but this time about him. Molche returned tentatively to offer apologies. Apparently they could hear him to. They talked and introduced themselves they didn't have proper names like Barkey or loam but they had names nonetheless The captain was named “Gangplank” and the priestess was named “Illaoi”. They talked about were they came from and the big storm that had trapped them there, and Molche told them about his village and asked about the hot thing, which they told him that it was called fire. So molche decided they were nice and brought them back to his village. They were large, much too large for the houses of the Funi so he brought them to the old cut stone cave. The priestess gasped when she saw it saying something about it being a holy sight and the captain said something treasure. Molche didn’t know anything about either but became worried that they wouldn't fit against the wall. To his surprise they pushed it and the wall folded backwards revealing a bigger cave! Molche was impressed with their strength but was more impressed with the strange shiny things that were in it, the largest of which was a strange glowy thing in the middle of a large pool. The priestess grabbed after murming a few strange words and the captain grabbed some more shiny stuff from around the room. It looked like fun so molche grabbed some too! The priestess hefting the shiny thing from the pool in both hands motioned to a deeper part of the cave that spiraled downward. When they got to the bottom a there was a lake with a thing made out of trees without limbs or leaves. The captain whooped and celebrated and began inspecting it. “It looks seaworthy” he said “But we will need make a new sail” So for the next few days the scavenged the shore for clothy bits, food, and such. They ate such strange things particularly fruit from “orange” trees, Molche tried to reason with them that loam was much preferred but they kindly disagreed. By the weeks end they were nearly finished and molche was feeling a pang of sadness his new friends would soon be gone. So he made a plan we would go with them! He said goodbye to his tribe mates and as the set off into the great unknown he the captain and the priestess were off. They sailed for a few days and nights until a strange island came into view. It had many people sailing on limbless trees with funny words written on them in and out and many people who looked different from the captain and the priestess going to and fro. Some pointed and jeered at Molche, so molche did the polite thing and pointed and jeered back. In the following days molche his friends would be together less and less the priestess would return to her duties and the captain had given his shiny things away for a new ship. But molche wasn’t depressed! He heard things about places and in places about things! So Molche was full of wanderlust to see new places and meet new people! So he stows away on ships bound to strange places, but to bilgewater he calls home for he knows when he returns the priestess and the captain will chuckle a bit as he shares his stories from afar.
