Does anyone wanna help me think of ideas for a champion concept I was making

This character is kinda similar to Link from The Legend of Zelda series but with less emphasis on the sword and more on the shield while still trying to retain a duelist type feel. I would like him to be a top lane fighter who requires a bit of mechanical skill to play well, so a high skill cap as well. So far I've got a few abilities and a bit of the back story but I would really like some input from other sources and I welcome any kind I can get.

Name Charles (Placeholder Name)

Lore A man finds a magic shield that bonds with him and protects him from harm. The shield has soaked up tons of magic from the rune wars and has become sentient but unable to move on its own. It communicates with others through the use of telekinesis but has a mental connection with its host, Charles.

Abilities Passive - ??? Q - Charles empowers his next auto attack by using his shield to bash the enemy. The less time between this auto attack and the previous one the lower the CD of this ability, up to a 50% CD reduction with 0.25 seconds in between. W - Charles' shield expels energy from itself, surrounding Charles in a short lasting bubble in order to block the next incoming ability. This ability doesn't go on CD until the bubble is popped or until it dissipates. The faster the energy bubble pops the shorter the CD of this ability, up to 30% CD reduction with the bubble lasting 0.25 seconds or less. E - Charles dashes toward the cursor, throwing his shield at the closest enemy champion. The shield then returns to Charles restoring his mana for a percent of the enemy's current mana when they were hit. This ability's CD is reduced based on the amount of mana Charles has when he receives his mana, with a 30% CD reduction at 70% missing mana. R - ??? I think I would like to have his ult be something similar to Taric's but only buffing himself. Maybe he could absorb some power from the shield and make himself stronger for a short time, gaining a portion of his bonus AS, MS, AD, and resistances.

When he dies his death animation could be him either being sucked into the shield or drained of life and turned into a skeleton by the shield.

Suggestions: Ult could be a wombo combo like Gnar or Orianna ults. Q could be a projectile that steals MS and resistances from the target. W absorbed damage then explodes once it reaches its limit. Ult is a large AOE slow that fears enemies that stand in it for too long. Passive gives a stack that when consumed reduces the CD of the ability that consumed it. Ult could be a bubble shield like thing.

Would it be doable to make him a kind of duelist in lane, but transition into a disruption tank in team fights. He could have good early base damage on his abilities that fall off kind of hard mid to late game with poor scaling, forcing him to buy tank stats. His Q could have a short stun on it and his E could have a medium slow on it, 20% to 40% at max rank. If he was going to be a disruption tank then making his ult a medium sized AOE silence seems like it would be good, and I could move the mana regen from his E to his ult, making him regen a percent of his missing mana for every enemy champ hit by his ult. I think his passive could be used as a way to encourage buying CDR instead of just giving it to him for free. Maybe he could get armor and magic resistance for getting CDR, with half the amount of CDR being the amount of bonus stats your given up to 20% bonus armor and magic resistance.

Well, if you want, you could use any of these for your lore: Pandemonium Tartown Dream Realm

As for kit, it is not very unique. Q sounds like Thresh's, W like Sivir's, E like Poppy's. Well, good passive could change this upside down. Where are you going with his kit? What should it does in general, what should it offer to the game and your team?

For starters, the reduction effects on all of his abilities have a core together but function strangely, playing around mana bars especially has never been a fun game play experience, so I'd reccomend removing those from each basic ability and make a similar mechanic for his passive

Like passive: Charles gains a stack of X every time he attacks or casts a spell, stacks increase his attack speed and lower his cooldowns by a flat amount on hit

Meaning the longer your in a fight the more you ramp up as a spell slinger style fighter

And if you wanted to maintain the mana refund you could add it to the E in a way that interacts with the passive. Refunds X% of missing mana based on number if stacks of his passive.

His ultimate should be something crazy, if he's a more defensive style fighter, then I recommend you something like the bubble shield from halo (I will never not recommend that mechanic)

Or if he's more offensive then something like The shield creates a duplicate of him and a targeted enemy (like illaois E) and if either one of them dues then something bad happens (not death maybe a stun) I was thinking what would an offensive shield user wanna do, so I would definitely go with the bubble shield

Hmm, at the moment it kind of feels like another Leona.

His Q should be more than a shield bash, how about he charges up his shield and gains extra range, instead of bashing his shield onto the enemy, he fires a dark projectile to hit the enemy, stealing their movement speed and resistances. It would allow him and his allies to chase or run away more easily.

For his W, instead of just expelling energy, he should absorb a certain amount of damage and if it reaches the limit, the shield explodes, dealing the damage that was absorbed around him. It would allow him to tank up more damage while also dealing more damage if enemies are too close.

At the moment, his E seems really nice but too typical, it's like Sivir's Q or Gnar's Q. The E is usually the play maker, I think instead you should throw out your shield like a boomerang, but reactivating the ability will cause you to swap places with your shield. As it returns I think it shouldn't go up and straight back, instead actually curving around in an upside down U shape before going back to him, allowing him to make some interesting play or escapes.

For the ultimate, it should be something huge, like a Gnar or Sejuani ult, something that allows him to really wombo combo. The ultimate could be something on the lines of, he pays a large amount of health which leads out in a large radius where he's standing, empowering allies while slowing down enemies, and if they stay in the blood pool for too long, they become feared and take increased damage.

So a suggestion for the passive could be that every use of an ability raises his resistances by 10% for 2 seconds. (Only stacks once)

Suggestion for passive: move the bonus CDR for each ability onto it. That way, the power budget of each ability doesn't need to be dumped into your 'free' CDR. Also, I would have this CDR stack multiplicativly with CDR from items and such, that way Charles doesn't get 90+% CDR on all of his abilities.

Going with the 'shield' theme of the rest of the abilities, his Ult could be some kind of AOE around him, with the shield quickly orbiting Charles as he channels. Think of it like a Katarina ult.

As for the abilities you have nailed down so far, I like them. If Q resets the auto attack timer, getting the full CDR will be very easy, if not, very hard. just a note. W I really like. The last instant shields will very very rewarding to pull off. I am assuming that E does some kind of damage, but am not sure. If so, it looks solid. If not, he looks like he'll deal very little damage over all, and doesn't have any CC either. I guess I'm trying to figure out:

What is this champion's role? His shield makes me think tanki-ish, so Juggernaut comes to mind, but that will depend on the amount of mobility his E grants, becuase Juggers have low mobility. If he's an assassin, or an "assassin/bruiser" like Vi, then his damage will need a boon, either from E or R.

Punish all evil:"charles channels for 3 seconds charging up the mental energy stored in his shield. the longer charles charges this ability the more damage this does, and the further it reaches.(25+80% ad+10 per ability already on cooldown) up to (50 +90%ad +15 per level). When charles finishes this ability all enemies near him receive a de buff called mental connections for 5/6/7 seconds. While this ability is active, charles takes 15/17.5/20% less damage from each target for that amount of time. At the end of this buff charles regains health equal to the damage blocked by this ability."

I was thinking of a way to tie the whole kit together with the ult and passive, and came up with this: Passive: Mind Over Matter

  • Whenever Charles inherently reduces the CD of one of his abilities, he gains a stack of Willpower. For every 10 stacks, he gains a permanent increase to his armor (0.5).

Not sure if you're going more offense or defense oriented, so made two versions of the ultimate I had in mind.

R: Heroic Defense

  • Charles consumes all his stacks of Willpower to create a barrier around himself that absorbs projectile attacks. The duration of the barrier is lengthened based on the amount of Willpower consumed, with a maximum increase of 4 seconds. Once the barrier expires, it releases a shockwave that deals damage based on the damage of the attacks it's absorbed.

R: Heroic Offense

  • Charles consumes all his stacks of Willpower to enhance his shield, greatly increasing its offensive capabilities. While enhanced, his autoattack range is increased to 550, and his autoattacks deal AoE damage. Charles gains additional AD and AP based on the amount of Willpower consumed. The duration of Heroic Offense is lengthened by the amount of Willpower consumed, with a maximum increase of 4 seconds.

There are more numbers to be crunched for sure, but these are just the ideas I came up with. Let me know what you think!
