HexTech Chest and Key Update / Idea

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my idea!

for the past few months I've had an idea of how to expand upon the hextech chest and keys system, and I'd like to present my idea with all of you. This must have happened to some of us at some point. You have 1000+ Orange essence and you have nothing to use it on. You unlock a box hoping to get that Jax skin you really wanted, but in return get a nunu champ shard :(

This plan adds just a bit more RNG but also a chance at getting a skin for your favorite champion, while still keeping things fair. When you open a Chest there is an option at the bottom of your screen to enhance the current chest which you're about to open with your current cosmetic essence.

On top of adding the essence you have the option of picking the champ you wish to get a skin for. Say you recently had your eye on Slayer Pantheon but it's nowhere near October! Just add in a bit of Orange essence and pick Pantheon and the chest will have a higher chance at dropping a Pantheon skin shard.

In order to make it still the RNG randomness of getting something new out of a chest, you will not be able to pick the exact skin you want or add enough essence to make it a 100% drop rate for said champion skin you want.

Below I have added the percentages for what I feel would be reasonable for this system.


220 E / 520 RP = 42% divided by two 21% rounded up to 25% | 350 Cosmetic Essence for a 25% chance.

450 E / 750 RP = 60% <-- Ignore

675 E / 975 RP = 69% divided by two 35% percent stays the same 35% (No difference) | 650 Cosmetic Essence for a 35% chance.

1050 E / 1350 RP = 78% <-- Ignore

1520 E / 1820 RP = 84% divided by two 44% rounded up to 45% | 1200 Cosmetic Essence for a 45% chance.

2150 E / 2450 RP = 88% <-- Ignore

2950 E / 3250 RP = 91% divided by two 46% rounded up to 50% | 2150 Cosmetic Essence for a 50% chance.

The number of the left at the start is how much cosmetic essence (E) is takes to upgrade a skin. The number on the right is the number of Rp (RP) the skin cost in the shop.

It takes 220 cosmetic essence to make a 520 Rp skin. I took 220 and divided it by 520 and got 42 percent. to make the number smaller I divided it by 2 and got 21% round that up to a reasonable number and you get 25%.

if you disenchant a 520 Rp skin you get 173 cosmetic essence. In order to make the amount of essence you need to put in at a fair amount (something everyone can manage) I took that number and multiplied it by 2 and got roughly 350 essence for a 25% chance.

Take the same formula above and apply it to the third, fifth, and the seventh equations above, and these are the numbers I've come up with!


Now I know a lot of people may think this is a system that can be abused a lot by people who spend a lot of money on chest and keys. Let me explain my thinking.

For example, say you spend $20 on chest and keys. In the end say you get about over 4000 essence. With the numbers i've come up with to get 50% it would take up half of that to enhance and single chest. Now that 2150 essence could have been used to upgrade a few skins or one big skin.

However, if your willing to take the risk and throw it all into a chest to get that skin you have been really wanting that will only leave you with about another 2000.

You wont always be able to do this, especially if you want to save up your essence to do it. If you have very little to no essence your forced to use the normal system, until you get more skin shards or as stated above if you spend enough money to enhance a chest.
